This is how you do it (Michigan Signing Day Event)

They are doing something right....not sure if its sustainable long term...guess we are lucky they are basically in a different conference than we are ...we play so miss and fresno more than them

They finished ranked at 20th in the Rivals ranking. Fire DAntonio. Should be top 10 every year if he wants to compete for championships.

It's Epic. Harbaugh is going to justify that paycheck on every level.

They hired a rock star.

It'll be interesting to see if he has staying power... He very well may be that rock star for years to come, but I wonder if his quirkiness will get old...

I've always liked him as a coach and a player for some reason. I hope he succeeds and brings the conference even higher, with all teams benefitting.

Let Michigan put on their big show and get the prima donas that want glamor and attention. Such a thing would never be tolerated, accepted or even work at Nebraska. It's Riley and co's job to go out and get talented kids that just want to work hard so they can kick those prima dona's asses. Harbaugh wants to do things Pete Carroll USC style. Nebraska needs to be more Nick Saban Alabama like in our approach if we are going to get back to relevancy.

Man that's hard to agree with, on any level. It looks like Harbaugh is killing it there and he would be an upgrade at every school in the country, save for maybe 3 or 4 programs? I think if Harbaugh wanted to coach at Nebraska for some weird reason, he would have a LOT of success here and most of us would celebrate his quirky style and laugh at opponents fan bases who didn't like him.

Yep. We hate em because we ain't em. He is doing exactly what we all feared, and quickly. I do think his candle burns out around year 5 and he heads back to the NFL for some unfinished business. Our fanbase would embrace the hell out of harbaugh. Hell, we embraced 2 complete buffoons in BC and BP, who both went to great lengths to offend fans and/or former players.

I don't hate harbaugh. He's doing what works for him. But that wouldn't work for Riley and Nebraska. It's going to have to be a more blue collar approach here.

It is said that these young men being recruited are being seduced by sexy new alternate uniforms and helmets...style.

Its hard to imagine that getting introduced on a glitzy stage to the cheers of a couple thousand students and getting thigh squeezed by Tom Brady and Derek Jeter wouldn't have some beneficial effect.

Harbaugh, bad interview and all has created tremendous buzz about the Michigan program and more importantly turned in a solid season and a dominant bowl victory.

Great class for Michigan by what looks like a tremendous hire.

Go Blue!

all the talk about the 500 mile radius and how Nebraska is at such a big disadvantage because of lack of top prospects in our own backyard carries some weight but if you look at Michigans class something like 11 of their 14 4* recruits aren't from anywhere near the state of Michigan.

This times 1,000,000. F "HarGod" and his ego filled antics. Get rid of one maniac in the B1G and replace him with another ... good grief. I'll take MR and his approach to life and football all day long and twice on Sunday's over HarGod's out of control leadership style. His act will get old at Michigan; only a matter of time. Many are already expressing their displeasure over his late recruiting dismissals and policies. Don't like at all the "Rock Star" antics this drama queen seems to thrive on and never will.

I don't think this was an example of leadership style as much as one of salesmanship style.

His leadership style led his team to 10 wins Riley's led his team to 6.

His salesmanship style got him a 4th ranked class as opposed to a 25th ranked class.

Just sayin...

To echo @chicolby if we had this at Nebraska we would love it. There is no doubt Harbaugh is a stud. Just going to see how long he can keep the momentum going. He's going to succeed no matter what. Guy is a winner.

It might be me, but I found the whole thing to be a little awkward. Would have been better without a live audience, putting awkward teenagers on the spot and without bringing people in with no connection to your program that are practically forced to kiss your program's butt. The event was waaay too long with very little content. It was a good first step, but definitely needs a lot of refinement. Nebraska could easily produce a live show like this with how big red wrap up is set up. Keep it to husker alumni, with the common hosts and an hour max, stream it on huskers.com or broadcast on NET. That would be nice!

You can't pretend that harbaugh's "salesmanship" is the only reason Michigan out recruited Nebraska. Michigan got a 4th ranked class because 1) they're Michigan. They almost always out recruit us. 2). They have a big name coach. 3) they had a much better season than Nebraska. If Nebraska starts to win and Riley makes a name for himself, you'll see Nebraska rise too.

And 4) they are located in the northern recruiting hot beds of Michigan and Ohio. However it did take salesmanship to land the #1 recruit in the country.

Fyi...Michigan didn't sign a single player from Ohio and only 3 instate with one being a kicker

I don't pretend that Harbaugh's salesmanship was solely the reason for the class.

Obviously, a 10 win season helps but if I had said "1)" then we both know I would have been hammered.

Quinn Nordin is the #1 kicker in the nation whom Harbaugh snake-oiled right out from underneath Penn State's evil clutches with a timely sleepover.

A huge pickup from this Michigan fans perspective as the kicking game has been kind of 'meh' for the past decade.

As Husker fans well know an accurate strong legged kicker is solid gold.

Just saw on CFB live that Michigan is holding 3 or 4 spring practices in Florida this year.. Talking about pushing the envelope..

I won't deny this helps long term but Michigan landed 15-4* and 1-5* ---- 13 of these16 recruits were from no where near Michigan or Ohio

Hey "newbie"...I'm a Michigan fan/grad

Anyhoo...I made the point Nordin is a kicker because a big theme around here is that Nebraska is at a huge disadvantage because of location. I will not dispute that it is an obstacle but the notion that a school like Michigan is sitting in some recruiting nirvana is not accurate either. We are in an OK recruiting state but we not only share it with MSU but ND is actually closer in proximity to recruits on the western side. And while Ohio has more talent we are second fiddle at best there.

So like NU we have to rely on kids from where ever we can find them to build a championship level team. In fact, only 2 of our 27 position players came from our "backyard" this year (we actually got more 4*s from Cali this year, which is closer to Lincoln, than we did from MI and OH combined). That means less than 10% of our position players came from our backyard...and relates back to a NU topic...yes...NUs location is certainly not ideal but it doesn't mean it can't land a top 10 class.

It's done in other sports by plenty of schools...I'm sure it will get plenty of attention (it kind of already has) because it is FB but it is not unprecedented

I did make an assumption that they would recruit heavily locally, while it appears that is more the case in years past... it certainly wasn't this year.

Recruits from Ohio
2016 - 0
2015 - 3
2014 - 2
2013 - 9
2012 - 9

Recruits from Michigan

2016 - 3
2015 - 3
2014 - 4
2013 - 8
2012 - 7

However none of this changes the fact that high quality players are available locally, whether they recruit them or not is up to them. The possibility is always there. This year there were 33 players from the Ohio-Michigan Area that ranked above the average for Nebraska's class of ".8707"(247 composite). While this means the dominant powers of Ohio State-Michigan-Notre Dame can't fill there entire class with local kids, they can fill nearly half or the bulk of their class with local kids. However, I wouldn't think Notre Dame would do this as they are more of national school than Ohio-State and Michigan.

I'm not going to go through the ins and outs of Michigan's current or past recruiting strategies but will point out that one major reason Michigan didn't...well couldn't...get more local talent this year is that tOSU was coming off a NC (which is like arming the Death Star with nuclear warheads instead of just lasers) and MSU is no longer little brother and had a 2-4 year head start on our staff with the local kids. Michigan was basically shut out of the majority of the top end talent before even starting. So it was less choice than neccesity.

So unless Michigan was willing to take "scraps" it had to go outside of its "500 mile or whatever radius." We might as well have been located in Alaska. But why we did doesn't matter as much as we did and landed a top 5/10 class. The point is that it can be done. You can be on the moon and still land a top 10 class.

That is not how I want to do it. Makes me throw up a little bit.

With over 35K views on youtube and a top 10 class in tow, my guess is, Hargod isn't real concerned with what upsets your tummy.

Years ago when I started my business, I had no clients. I literally dug through a garbage can of one of my competitors in an attempt to figure out who they were doing work for so I could solicit them. 16 years ago. My best client to this day who has made all my mortgage payments came from that garbage can. Now go walk onto almost any college campus and into some classroom where "business" is being taught, my guess is, nobody is employing that method and several students would say the same thing about how I started, you're saying about how Hargod started his career at Michigan. I didn't give a rats ass about any else's opinion either. Don't be afraid to be different.
