The secondary

Does the team miss coach cooper? My goodness the secondary has looked lost the last several games, they’ve actually regressed since the early part of the season.
Yeah, I used to think they were a pretty good unit, but now see them as a liability. Top to bottom, our linebacker play is underwhelming too. Hopefully, the guys coming up are ready to step in. We need a talent upgrade at a lot of places.

The secondary looks like they're perpetually stuck in first game mode. So many pass completions look like we're just half a step off in breaking up the play... and that half a step doesn't seem to improve. I don't know if it's players or coaching.

It's definitely one of numerous areas that Rhule needs to look over in the off season.

With a comfortable lead I think Rhule wanted to get some younger players like Blye Hill in the game and give them some game experience which lead to a post play he was beaten on..

It's hard to make sense. Other than Cooper nothing else has really changed. My guess is they (Rhule/White) have allowed Butler to have a bit of a say in how they play on the back end coverage wise and quite frankly it's been to the detriment of the defense as a whole.

I love those guys and all they have put in time wise but I'm ready for every secondary guy playing significant minutes NOT named Wright to move on. Step slow, missed tackles, blown coverage. Whatever weaknesses they had last year was hid or masked well with Coop as coach. I know Butlers resume but color me not impressed year one with anything I seen from him.

That all said we are going bowling and that's a great thing. Hope like hell they move on from those older guys who wanna come back like Buford. My guess is they won't tho... especially with his brother still being here.

But what happened with the safety on that play? The tv replay showed the safety stuck in place way behind the play instead of playing deep.

He sucked just like I said he would. And Blye Hill is not that young and has game experience. When is this board going to figure out that I do in fact know what I'm talking about.

Well the common denominator here is Butler, so I'd place the blame there where it belongs. The secondary has looked tentative and downright lost at times this year. Butler needs to figure something out over the off-season or he's going to be looking for another job at this time next year.

The only thing Nebraska couldn’t do in order to secure the game early in the 4th quarter was give up quick TDs and they gave up 2. If your D cannot force teams to grind out drives and earn TDs then no lead is safe. Happened against Iowa in 2022 as well and nearly cost them the lead/game.

Secondary seems to have no clue what their responsibilities are and it’s been this way since the Illinois game, possibly UNI game too. That touchdown last night where Gifford crashed down towards LOS when he should have dropped back was a prime example.
