I don't see it that way. We have a lot of passionate fans who have watched this program devolve into something many of us don't recognize, and have experienced lots of disappointment over the past decade. The Tennessee series is one of the few truly marquee matchups on the noncon schedule from 2018-2027. Do we expect fans to withhold negative reaction to this until after they sit down and analyze the NU athletic budget?

1. TN already had moved the series to play VaTech at a race track.
2. NU has revenue concerns due to South Stadium renovations.
3. The SEC plays 8 league games. TN hosts NMSU in November and NU is playing a league game. Why would NU schedule the equivalent of a tenth league game against the equivalent of an upper tier conference team? The non-conference choices for most of the SEC are far less than formidable.

This is what happened. Tennessee asked us to move from 2016 to 2026/7 because of $$ for them. We obliged. We asked them to return the favor and they said no.
As far as canceling, haven't decided if good or bad, but Tennessee isn't innocent here. He's probably pissed we took ekeler

The new 10 year deal with ESPN started last season, the question is will ESPN and ABC force the SEC to play 9 games in 2026?
I feel a non conference game with a SEC team would have done more for our program than playing Bowling Green and Miami Oh.
I’ve always looked forward to watching Nebraska play in Knoxville, Eugene, Seattle or Boulder back when 2 of them where not in the B1G.

While I understand your point to some degree, fans are emotional about their teams - that's what makes them passionate. But I don't see how failure to look at every issue effecting the team they root for through a business lens makes them soft or fragile. I also think the changing landscape of CFB is an easy excuse to use to cover any and all bad news or lack of success.
We wanted to move the games because we need an extra home game because of reduced seats. Tennessee said no and it was canceled. If Nebraska would try to get a similar caliber team they wouldn’t have made this move in the first place.

Good question. I would guess that the odds of Rhule either being fired or moving on to PSU by then are greater than 50-50. Maybe we will finally hire Mack Brown.
Just listened to a sportswriter who was at the SEC/B1G meeting. They are talking 4 auto spots for the SEC and B1G, plus 2 each from the ACC and Big 12. So why would a team in either league intentionally schedule a P2 opponent if they are competing for the overall record in addition to the record in conference? Also, SEC ADs and coaches aren’t big on adding a ninth game. So as long as they are scheduling tomato cans instead of a league team, why would a B1G team schedule a tenth high major game?

Exactly, adding bowling green reduces the chance of needing to come up with money for a buyout in 2026 dramatically.
If Matt doesn’t find his year 3 magic in 25, we’d have had 5 teams on the 2026 schedule that had made the playoff either this year or last year. They reduced that number by 20%
2 guaranteed out of the Big 12 is too many. But I suppose it helps to have a cupcake in the playoffs someone will get an easy win over them.

As far as the 9th SEC game, the vibe from the podcast segment was there is still entrenched opposition from coaches and ADs. If the expanded idea goes forward, I could see a SEC/B1G crossover game.
