Ted Carter to OSU

Any reduction in the rate of increase in NU’s budget is going to be directed at academic fluff.
Or bureaucratic fluff that has nothing to do with graduating educated students who can find jobs. Unfortunately, they always seem to keep the bureaucrats and downsize the people who teach or maintain facilities, etc.

The Board of Regents didn't exactly poach a big name Chancellor to replace Ronnie Green. They got the guy, Rodney Bennett from Southern Mississippi. Southern Miss has 10,000 less students than UNL and their endowment is $136 million. NU's is 1.7 billion. However, Dr. Bennett's specialty seems to be increasing enrollment, which is something UNL is struggling with. Also, Bennett closed down all on campus classes and buildings for the Volleyball Day next week, so there is that.

When Rhule took the job he went on about how leadership was aligned - Alberts, Green and the Admiral. Now that Ronnie and Ted are gone I hope Matt doesn't lose that luvin feeling.
And exactly WHY do we have to increase enrollment? The psychology of a bureaucracy….

I’m hoping some majors and courses disappear.
The only worthwhile pursuits at university are the med school and…

Well that’s the only one I can think of, and even they can’t stop pumping out immoral incurious drug shills

There was a LJS recently; Carter met most of the markers the board had set for him. Got a bonus. With budget cuts coming....probably a wise move on Carter's part. I think there was some friction between Ricketts/Pillen and Carter/Green. We will wait and see how the next guys do. But their hands may be tied...like never before.
I agree. Carter moving on to Ohio State sure seems like an attempt to get away from some of the dumbassery that has infiltrated Nebraska politics of late. Not that being the President of a major university is ever easy.

Starts January 1. Will have to hire a new AD with Gene Smith retiring June 30. Hopefully Les Wexner and Carter can get along. Living in Columbus the search was kept under wraps. I don't think the major news outlets knew when a decision was going to be made.
Wow, Smith has been with you guys forever. He oversaw a lot of success on the field for you.

Some of the news here suggested Carter didn't like what was going on in our Legislature recently. Have you read anything along those lines on your end? (Careful with any answer...politics is frowned upon here.) 🤣

OSU is twice the size of NU with a commensurate budget. Follow the money.

Decorated war hero

@NikkiSixx posted a long form interview he did about his service a while ago

Was a pretty good listen
His Navy career is indeed impressive.

That said, I'm glad he's leaving.

I think it's more important for Trev to oversee the program, than Ted Carter, who was always an outsider.

I worry about the timing though.. is there another shoe to drop, what has actually happened?

Either way, I am glad that guy is leaving.

The history of Universities is interesting. Some theories that they were started to shift employee training costs from the business to the employee rather than pay for it on the job. They were really set up for the upper class who could afford it, or the smart kids who could get a scholarship. They then sort of morphed into higher education for anyone who could pay or borrow.. and for a long time, a degree was required to get work in the white collar world. Now, it's considered an overpriced scam by the new generation.

it's been forecasted for years that we would see consolidation among universities.. I don't think it's happened yet, but no doubt it will.

Makes the recent decision to strip the UNL Chancellor of athletics‘ authority look a bit shortsighted if not downright stupid.
I think there is something to this.. some sort of link here, and we don't know the full story.

At a minimum I have to believe Carter was being vetted for the OSU job when he endorsed the athletics change — university president searches typically take many months — and it seemed pretty obvious the NU change supposedly was based on Carter‘s “unique” relationship to athletics. Sleazy power grab by the Regents Is what it looks like now and shame on Carter for abetting them.

Nebraska 20k students
osu 60k students

ted probably gets a good raise
I don't have a problem with him, he helped get rhule
the key now's replace him with someone else that is a postitive
maybe pillan? how bout dave remmington? there's probably alot of ole republican Huskers we could find..

sounds like trev and ted were/are planning on getting NU back in the aau...by restructuring some things to be more tied to omaha med center....

I would say the first half is correct.. Ted absolutely is the one who hired Rhule. That wasn't Trev's doing. Trev would have hired Mickey, but Trev is going to do what his boss says.

The second half, I don't agree with. Ted Carter, while a distinguished career, is like any other administrator. It's a shame that in order to get ahead in this country, you have to be an excellent liar. Note: Trev also fits in this category, but at least Trev knows what it takes to improve the football program. Ted Carter, not so much.

When Rhule bolts for another job, I hope Trev gets another chance to do it his way.

The upper tier power struggles have always ended up hurting Nebraska Football, but those at the top can't help but grift off the program, putting themselves before the common goal.
Trev was not hiring Mickey.

I think he certainly was looking hard at that.. you don't know for sure and neither do I, but it was pretty clear that he was looking hard at it.

I'm convinced Matt Rhule was hired by Ted. Sure Trev went along, but I don't think Matt was Trev's guy from the get go.

You don't know that.... Just like with Mickey. That's a big assumption you are making

Not sure why people are upset. He is proving to be a true Husker. He has gone undercover to attempt to destroy the Ohio State program. I hear he hires Mike Riley and Shawn Eichorst as soon as time permits. This is his first of many goals. This comes from a trusted source.

when (badger) carrot top hired (beaver) mr rodgers as a direct reaction to the (buckeye)missing link..NU took a new low..and carried over to (1 year hc)...we need to really think about who we hire from now on...look at the big picture type thing...
