Remember when booze bottles came with a strip over the top of the cap? I remember (maybe an old wives tale) that if that strip/seal was broken and you were driving, that you could be cited for having an "open container"He was popped at 1:30 in the morning with an open container driving around. If the .15 BAC is true. That could result in a felony.
1:30am is the most distressing fact to meHe was popped at 1:30 in the morning with an open container driving around. If the .15 BAC is true. That could result in a felony.
I can't remember the last time I was out that late.1:30am is the most distressing fact to me
An Applebee's waitress or a construction worker isn't the same as the TE coach at Nebraska making $315,000 a year. You can get another waitress or blue-collar job. That might be his only shot at coaching big-time cfb. Terrible decision making. It is crazy to think and I have said this before, but if you go out to happy hour after work with co-workers, you have driven home buzzed or drunk or both
Now, before the perfect posters attack me with bible quotes and stories about how their van filled with orphans was hit by a drunk driver and everyone died, including the poster who is now posting from heaven and the drunk driver lived and got off on a technicality, I am NOT saying it is some great thing to do. Just saying that it is probably super common.
I almost spit out my drink! hahaha1:30am is the most distressing fact to me
Partially blame his wife for enabling this
Everyone knows open container 2x legal limit driving is best done during daylight hours
For sure. Totally agree. An Applebee's waitress or a construction worker isn't the same as the TE coach at Nebraska making $315,000 a year. You can get another waitress or blue-collar job. That might be his only shot at coaching big-time cfb. Terrible decision making.
Ouch .. this wasn’t just one or two many at happy hour. He was wasted
I would assume he’s going to pull a Bobby Huggins a month from nowI would assume he resigned so Rhule wasn't put in a position of making that decision.
He knew.1:30 am is a good time to be popped but not in a car with one open. He’s got a problem that Rhule didn’t know about when he hired him.
He is the guy at the party that thinks EVERYTHING is the best idea around 1am.Ouch .. this wasn’t just one or two many at happy hour. He was wasted
Well, he's certainly taken care of that part.then you don't see him for another 4 months.
Josh Martin has good experience. We'll be fine.
Yep, VERY few cars on the road that late. He stuck out like a sore thumb with any erratic driving1:30am is the most distressing fact to me

In Iowa, if the beers are even accessible in the front seat, that is open container.Remember when booze bottles came with a strip over the top of the cap? If he agrees to it in his contract it should. Which I’m assuming he did. Can’t hold the team accountable if you can’t hold coaches accountableYeah, I agree.
No. Comedy. 🥸Just a guess, but other than the embarrassment, he probably thought this is a good time to head back home.
This is a guy who was used to high school football and that environment, and it's entirely possible that he may not have liked the college environment, so it's not necessarily a reflection on Nebraska or Rhule either.
Anyway, there goes our Texas recruiting connection.
We've got plenty of Texas connections.Just a guess, but other than the embarrassment, he probably thought this is a good time to head back home.

MLB, IIRC, has a 1-800 number any employee / player can call, anywhere, any time (year round) to be given a ride home at MLB’s expense. This apparently works. I don’t follow MLB, but have they had recent DUIs?Shoot, just create a position, a "driver" job, for a current student that is basically like an intern and a gopher,
Take coaches to the airport, pick them up if they need a ride, pick up their kids if they need to be picked up.
Shit, back in the day, maybe still today, executives had a car service.
Like others have said, we have many who are connected to Texas. Wager was extremely highly respected, and will absolutely be a loss, but Texas recruiting won’t dry up because of this.Just a guess, but other than the embarrassment, he probably thought this is a good time to head back home.

Texas recruiting will be just fine. His secret weapon is SJ Hulme. She is deeply connected to HS football in TX.
not even close, especially at 1:30 am.15? A pro.
Lol not even close to a felonyHe was popped at 1:30 in the morning with an open container driving around. If the .15 BAC is true. That could result in a felony.
agreednot even close, especially at 1:30 am
if it was closer to .25 or over, then I would say he's a club member
Not that it matters. But this is not true. .15 or higher can constitute a felony.Lol not even close to a felony
Lol if you really think his resignation was not the result of a conversation with Rhule before hand then you’re unbelievably socially inept. YowsersI would assume he resigned so Rhule wasn't put in a position of making that decision.
It looks that way on paper, it just seems that the hits keep coming, just can’t catch a breakJosh Martin has good experience. We'll be fine.
Something else I want to add to this..MLB, IIRC, has a 1-800 number any employee / player can call, anywhere, any time (year round) to be given a ride home at MLB’s expense. This apparently works. I don’t follow MLB, but have they had recent DUIs?
Every salient organization should consider doing the same or similar. …would save a time of consternation and money.
Open container and driving drunk at 1:30 am seems a lot out of the norm for a man in his position unless he has an alcohol problem. Isn’t he married?agreed
if anything, 1:30am makes me think much less problem than bad luck/bad choice
real boozehounds are 3 sheets at 11:50am and calling it a workday
Welp that settles it. He was in fact a dumbass
We’ve ubered to parties in Omaha 10 blocks from our hotel for that reason.Something else I want to add to this..
Back in the day, we didn't have ride hailing services. A taxi was mega expensive, so as Sam Kinison used to say, there was no other way to get the car home, so you drove, and you pulled it of.
But today with Ubers and Lyft and such, you make those choices before you even go out for the evening.
It seems incredibly dumb to get a DUI these days if you're going to go out celebrating for the night.
