Our WR recruits don't seem to be down
much more difficult to throw when there is no threat of the run game - can't get buried like that from the get go
it seemed like too many drop backs in the 2nd half included playaction fakes when we had no intention of running the ball and their defense had no intention of honoring any fake - it seems like Lee could have spent the extra 1/2 - 1 second with his eyes down field rather than selling the play fake
we need to incorporate more quick WR passes - bubble screens, WR screens etc that have hurt our defense
the receivers and TEs need to do a better job of catching balls outside of the perfect catch zone - a lot of drops on some high balls or balls that the receiver had to reach for - while some of these were inaccurate throws, on occasion the defense dictated these throws in that Lee had to deliver the ball over an underneath defender to avoid a tipped ball or INT - as a result the ball wasn't perfect but was still watchable
win the next 3

Gebbia traveling was planned just like P O'Brian last year.He definitely has some mental things to work on. Was surprised to see Gebbia travel for this game. I'll just leave it at that.
Why does a competent QB overthrow so many balls? He forced a few and didn't see the defense well. I understand that but way high on many passes. Is he just not stepping in or is it fear? Our second and third string QBs make those throws is my guess. Something wrong.
Maybe, or maybe he simply had a bad game. Why does a competent QB overthrow so many balls? He forced a few and didn't see the defense well. I understand that but way high on many passes. He's been pretty bad today. With that said...not many QB's have had much luck first year in this system.
I think we just needed 25/40 with 2 ints and we would have been fine.Just for reference, Baker Mayfield is 25/33 with 6:00 to play in Columbus. That is what we needed from Lee today.
Tanner Lee's pro potential << Baker Mayfields cohones.Just for reference, Baker Mayfield is 25/33 with 6:00 to play in Columbus. That is what we needed from Lee today.
That said I think Lee has big potential, and with experience he's only going to get better.

He had a bad game. My concern is throwing into coverage WAY too much and not checking down or reading progressions. If he cant do that now he never will. Might as well go to Gebbia.
The guy locks on to his receivers way too much. He could have had 8 interceptions today. The sad thing is we have a lot of teams on our schedule with a much better defense than Oregon. Not sure what all these people are seeing ?
19-42 with 4 int and he can't run. Do we call for a return of TA

The interesting thing about the one and done prognostications and the "first round" talk was that most of it started with guys with a connection to Riley. Personally I took it with a grain of salt. But I will say, that he's shown the arm talent. I'm not sure we've got the WRs right now that can get open and CONSISTENTLY run the route like they're supposed to. Without the coach's perspective we don't know if Spielman etal ran their route the way it was supposed to be run. Man Lee threw some nice balls. The one he threw to Morgan that got picked was a GREAT pass albeit unluckily tipped in the air by Morgan. I'm not blaming Morgan because that's a tough catch and the defender impacted the play but man that ball was where it needed to be. I will also note that Lee got clobbered multiple times as he released the ball and on a couple of those late throws that were high he knew he was going to get hit and get hit hard. I have a feeling that we're going to like this kid as much as we liked Zac Taylor by the time it's all said and done. Not giving up on Lee being a very good QB for Nebraska, but yeah it seems like people got a bit carried away with the one-and-done talk. If he's going to try to fit the ball into tight windows, he needs a lot more juice behind it.

His last one was tipped at the line of scrimmage as the pocket was collapsing. I'm not sure I can blame him for that one. It was terrible as in it ended our chances but every QB in the NFL has passes tipped.I didn't think the interceptions he threw were bad for the most part. A couple would have been good throws in the NFL, but we don't have NFL receivers and Tanner needs to realize that. His last interception was the worst one.
Lee's got the tools, if he continues to develop we'll be a force.
And unfortunately his O line is still struggling at times to give him a clean pocket and his WRs are still struggling to get open. It was his first time in that kind of noise and against that kind of speed. He may have missed some open guys with a DL in his face Saturday but all in all he did a good job for the number of hits and pressures he was getting. He got hit a couple of times where I didn't think he was going to get up. That's one of the reasons I'm willing to cut him some slack. You have no idea what it is like to get hit like that in such a vulnerable position. On top of that he throws a pick on a perfectly thrown ball early. This is his 5th year in a college program isnt it?
So he's going through the same stuff as other qb's. Ok then. And unfortunately his O line is still struggling at times to give him a clean pocket and his WRs are still struggling to get open. Absolutely and when they go through those things they struggle. I don't care if you're Aaron Rodgers. If you get hit enough and don't get time, you struggle and if you're still learning you really struggle. I think Lee is going to end up being a very good QB for us but we've got to protect him better. Every former Husker and analyst said the same thing leading up to the season. His success was going to depend on how well we ran it and how well we protected him. I'm not at all surprised by the way he struggled in that environment. It was virtually impossible for him to audible and even if he did their D's unpredictability and speed made it tough to do anyway. Good learning experience now let's see how he does going forward. So he's going through the same stuff as other qb's. Ok then.
They said before the season that he was going to travel to all road games. Was surprised to see Gebbia travel for this game. I'll just leave it at that.
