much more difficult to throw when there is no threat of the run game - can't get buried like that from the get go

it seemed like too many drop backs in the 2nd half included playaction fakes when we had no intention of running the ball and their defense had no intention of honoring any fake - it seems like Lee could have spent the extra 1/2 - 1 second with his eyes down field rather than selling the play fake

we need to incorporate more quick WR passes - bubble screens, WR screens etc that have hurt our defense

the receivers and TEs need to do a better job of catching balls outside of the perfect catch zone - a lot of drops on some high balls or balls that the receiver had to reach for - while some of these were inaccurate throws, on occasion the defense dictated these throws in that Lee had to deliver the ball over an underneath defender to avoid a tipped ball or INT - as a result the ball wasn't perfect but was still catchable - balls are't going to be perfect when there is pressure as well - if you can get your hands on it, it should be caught

win the next 3

Yah we have to utilize the short routes more, and more emphasis on catching the balls that hit you in the hands. Lots of play fakes in a "down 4 scores" scenario that really didn't matter.

Lee's got the tools, if he continues to develop we'll be a force.

Adam Shefter at ESPN is reporting that Tanner Lee will not be entering the NFL Draft after his junior season. Winking

I remember Tommy being vilified more often than being proclaimed otherwise. His ass couldnt hit the door soon enough for most. so, cut that bs out...

Why does a competent QB overthrow so many balls? He forced a few and didn't see the defense well. I understand that but way high on many passes. Is he just not stepping in or is it fear? Our second and third string QBs make those throws is my guess. Something wrong.

Yah only about 1/3 of NFL teams have a good QB and only about 5 of 120 NCAA teams have QB's good enough to have a shot at the Natty, so its pretty odd to see folks miss throws.

Maybe, or maybe he simply had a bad game.

It amazes me that people are already in the know that Tanner Lee is a bust... one good game and he's an NFL player... a second game and he's another Tommy Armstrong.

Can we not give him more time before calling for 2nd or 3rd string QBs, who are obviously better?

Not giving up on Lee being a very good QB for Nebraska, but yeah it seems like people got a bit carried away with the one-and-done talk. If he's going to try to fit the ball into tight windows, he needs a lot more juice behind it.

My son is a DI QB thought he was nads the first half. 2nd half not so much but the potential is there. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water just yet.

He has the skills. He simply got rattled as the game tightened up. It happens. Once he gets more comfortable he should be fine.

Just for reference, Baker Mayfield is 25/33 with 6:00 to play in Columbus. That is what we needed from Lee today.

That said I think Lee has big potential, and with experience he's only going to get better.

I think we just needed 25/40 with 2 ints and we would have been fine.

Who knows what Tanner Lee will turn out to be, but I laugh at those already writing him off. Too soon to tell.

Tanner Lee's pro potential << Baker Mayfields cohones.

He had a bad game. My concern is throwing into coverage WAY too much and not checking down or reading progressions. If he cant do that now he never will. Might as well go to Gebbia.

At what point do we realize our wr's aren't exactly above Ave. We read this board and think we're OSU or Bama. Stanley is good but he'd be lucky to get 20 catches at one of those schools. We think he's an AA. He's good, great for us, but average overall. An NFL scout said he'd be the 5th or 6th WR on a team like Bama or Ckemson. TL has one WR that kind of scares teams. 3 stars are 3 stars.

Tanner had chances to bring us back in the 2nd half and he didn't. There was a play where he had JD open and Lee badly hesitated his throw. Lee saw him but it was like he didn't process it. There were more than a few of those for lee. many of our guys didn't make plays. Morgan dropped a big pass after the Williams interception. Lee actually shredded double coverage to deliver a nice ball to him.If he makes that I catch, I think we win.

But honestly, I'm optimistic about this team. Maybe the easiest I've ever taken a husker loss. This team played much better in the second half, and I hate to say a "good loss" but I feel this team will rebound well from it. They finished strong. Much better than the Ducks did. I wasn't planning on this team making a title run but I think it could win the west. Lee has to make better decisions and faster then he did today. Throwing lanes don't usually stay open long. When he see's them, their can't be hesitation

bad guess, they don't

The interesting thing about the one and done prognostications and the "first round" talk was that most of it started with guys with a connection to Riley. Personally I took it with a grain of salt. But I will say, that he's shown the arm talent. I'm not sure we've got the WRs right now that can get open and CONSISTENTLY run the route like they're supposed to. Without the coach's perspective we don't know if Spielman etal ran their route the way it was supposed to be run. Man Lee threw some nice balls. The one he threw to Morgan that got picked was a GREAT pass albeit unluckily tipped in the air by Morgan. I'm not blaming Morgan because that's a tough catch and the defender impacted the play but man that ball was where it needed to be. I will also note that Lee got clobbered multiple times as he released the ball and on a couple of those late throws that were high he knew he was going to get hit and get hit hard. I have a feeling that we're going to like this kid as much as we liked Zac Taylor by the time it's all said and done.

I said last week after the win that the fan base should take a breathe and pause before we talk him up, like so many did before the season. I was pretty much opposed in this line of thinking. After this week, I will say that I saw flashes of the talent that is there but he isn't consistent enough still. As the talent around him gets more consistent, he will play at a higher rate of effectiveness.

He is solid, let's get another 3-4 games before we start to solidify opinions this year. Need to get off to better start and then find ways to close it. Need the running game to be more effective to stay two dimensional in the bigger games.

I didn't think the interceptions he threw were bad for the most part. A couple would have been good throws in the NFL, but we don't have NFL receivers and Tanner needs to realize that. His last interception was the worst one.

His last one was tipped at the line of scrimmage as the pocket was collapsing. I'm not sure I can blame him for that one. It was terrible as in it ended our chances but every QB in the NFL has passes tipped.

lee throws great (minus interceptions), a thousand time better then armstrong or martinez. since faragamo I don't recall NU having a passer like that. gill? ganz?

he just needs to work on mobility if the line has a problem here or there.
he don't need to worry bout the NFL yet, best he just play out how many years he has at NU then go pro.

there were a few dropped balls against oregon. I'd like to see lee hit players in stride a tad better. but he doesn't throw it 20 yards away from them like armstrong and martinez

This is his 5th year in a college program isnt it?
And unfortunately his O line is still struggling at times to give him a clean pocket and his WRs are still struggling to get open. It was his first time in that kind of noise and against that kind of speed. He may have missed some open guys with a DL in his face Saturday but all in all he did a good job for the number of hits and pressures he was getting. He got hit a couple of times where I didn't think he was going to get up. That's one of the reasons I'm willing to cut him some slack. You have no idea what it is like to get hit like that in such a vulnerable position. On top of that he throws a pick on a perfectly thrown ball early.

So he's going through the same stuff as other qb's. Ok then.

Absolutely and when they go through those things they struggle. I don't care if you're Aaron Rodgers. If you get hit enough and don't get time, you struggle and if you're still learning you really struggle. I think Lee is going to end up being a very good QB for us but we've got to protect him better. Every former Husker and analyst said the same thing leading up to the season. His success was going to depend on how well we ran it and how well we protected him. I'm not at all surprised by the way he struggled in that environment. It was virtually impossible for him to audible and even if he did their D's unpredictability and speed made it tough to do anyway. Good learning experience now let's see how he does going forward.

The struggles of Lee and the level of play in our Oline point to the advantage of if not a dual threat QB, at least one with enough mobility to make positive yards on a scramble and to be effective in the roll out game. The Oregon game is now a video record, available to all B1G D coordinators. Both Lee and our Oline have to step up their game.
