Supreme Court rules on sports betting

The only one winning in gambling, is the house. It is setup to take advantage of others, and sure, some people get addicted, others just lose and then try to win it back, and lose even more. Then things get stolen, pawned, robbed.. and your sister ends up hooking in the alley so she can put $50 on red.

Gambling introduces an entire host of problems that everyone then has to deal with. From increased crime to increased costs to society in general. Build more jails, hire more probation officers, judges, lawyers.. it is an economic engine for the state or corporation who gets to be the house. It won't be a city you want to live in and raise a family in though. Ever been down to CB?

You are probably correct. However, I never understood the difference between betting on a horse with a person riding it vs betting on a person. How exactly is one ok to bet on and the other not?

Especially when the horses are being shot up with PEDs by the gallon.

Casinos are not my thing, but I didn’t want to live in Council Bluffs long before anyone ever broke ground on a casino.

Nobody wants to live in Council Bluffs.
The whole town feels like a open air Wal-Mart.
You can go to Council Bluffs and count the pretty people, but it will take you a week to get to ten.

That's all five fingers on both of your hands for those trying to read in Council Bluffs.

The dorks that are all "chicken little" about gambling must be what the dorks sounded like back 100 years ago...when they go rid of something else...what was it? I can't remember...I know it didn't work.

Doesn’t the old saying go “a fool and his money will soon be parted”?

I don’t care if they lose it at a casino, or they buy booze, cigarettes, clothing or whatever, I don’t believe losing the ability to gamble means people magically save money and are great citizens.

I enjoy gambling and I’m probably down a pretty good amount over my life because of it. But I also enjoy good restaurants and am probably down a good amount. And travel. And drinking. And golf. Etc. Yes I’m tempted by the allure of winning on a particular night or trip but I also know it’s ultimately a price to be paid for a good time.

Amen! People against gambling love two crazy arguments...

1. Gambling = some sort of mob/mafia/organized crime and wild west shoot outs with hookers all over the place.

2. Without gambling all the people that they just "saved" will now do amazing things with their lives.

How about this...how about the fact that 99% of people are pretty freaking normal, they get up, go to work, come home, eat some dinner, watch TV, hit the gym, go for a walk, chat with friends and family...then when the weekend rolls around they have some drinks, grill out, golf (gamble), watch some sports, go to a movie, go out to eat and maybe put in a bet or two.

Gambling has been around since the moment there were more than one person on this planet. Making it legal isn't going to turn my neighbor into a monster.
