Talked to a couple people who watched Diaco's work closely at UConn/ND. "Always positive," one said. "Players loved him. A player's coach."

Gets lost, but Diaco was also Brian Kelly's defensive coordinator at Cincinnati in 2009. That was the Bearcats team that finished 12-1.

can someone comment on the learning curve for the 3-4 ... are we looking at a transition year on defense while kids learn the system ???

would he take over safeties or will that become dwilliams responsibility now?

I think, even in a transition year, he will be able to do a lot with this defense and we should see decent progress. Sets up nice for the 2018 season with good development and recruiting to go with experience and gelling. GBR

It better. 2018 schedule is brutal. If this staff survives that 2019 could be special.

I think Nebraska fans have become numb with past coaches not firing under performing assistants. It is very important this day and age to constantly try and obtain the best coaches you can. For all the star gazers picture Banker as a 5.4 3 star and Diaco a 5.8 4 star.

These people need space to do some experimenting. If the DC operates a 3-4, then that's the D for NU.

I doubt it, more likely he takes over OLB. I would guess our next hire will be safeties or OL, with the other filled when the NCAA appproved a 10th coach in the Spring.

stars don't mean a thing > we should have found a Nebraska high school football coach to walkon as our def coordinator

I thought Riley might have someone(s) in quickly and lined up through the coaches convention. I don't like moving to a 3-4 if that's what we do. It makes recruiting the NG an enormous premium and there aren't as many great ones out there vs DT's.

I think that's a good point. Also, can't remember who said it, but I recall some coach or recruiting guru say that DT was the hardest position to recruit, especially since most come from the Southeast and rarely leave the SEC.

I bet the defense will make tackles now.
As much as I like Australia and Australian's and Foster lager and I used to play rugby, I will be elated to see us actually tackle again. For God's sake that is why you wear a helmet and pads. Rugby style is for when you don't. And that's a whole nother story and don't get me started.

Oh, but it works for the Seahawks...;););)

True and even that much harder to get NG's.

And the last truly good/great DE we had in the 4-3? Those come along all the time and are so easy to get?

Very hard to recruit true NT's to play in 3-4. Hope they have a plan in place but I love the hire
