Spring football

The reference is not Rhule it’s Frost who didn’t allow HH to get any reps in practice and barely let him in the QB room even though he was on the depth chart.
tbf, HH was a redshirt in Frost's last functional year. Whipple was the one that was controlling the offense and the QB room in HH's second year. He was not on the DC his second year.

Well, yea, why not? He’s the incumbent starter and appears to be taking the first turn.

His job to lose (assuming an actual competition) and no doubt he’s been working his ass off all offseason.

Nice to have some competitors in that room for the first time in forever.

All you losers will absolutely hate it if he lights up the spring game. Greatest “fans” in all of college football 😂🤣

May the best man win!
Wait...isn't it your position (possibly even claimed to be a fact) that Rhule guaranteed Raiola the starting job?

Rhule was very complimentary towards Emmett Johnson's athleticism. Called him an elite athlete. Might we be too worried about the RB room?
Who else has actually performed? I like EJ a lot, but everyone else is an unknown. Also, EJ is decent, but we should recruit over him big time. NU has not had a big time running back in a long time and we need it.

Hopefully Dante Dowdell, the 6'2"/215 transfer from Oregon will be the guy recruited over the others. I'm still not sold on EJ Barthel's coaching and recruiting ability. IMHO seems to be the weak room as far as recruiting.

I hope this guy is selling 10 year old Buicks somewhere......

QB coach Mario Verduzco taken aback by today's practice. : r/unza's practice. : r/unza

Possibly the most questionable position coach hire in NU history. Only rivaled by the banker Frost hired in desperation to take over his underperforming offense. Both Frost hires…

I pretty unconcerned with what other members of this community think about my posts.
Why bother posting on a message board then? What’s the point? Not meant as a cut at all - just truly curious.

If one didn’t care about what others thought (thus leading to dialogue) then why would one waste time typing out posts.

If you truly didn’t care what others thought it seems it would make more sense to just not post.

I enjoy other points of view. I just don't care what people think of the stuff I post. I found not caring about makes it easier not to get drug into petty arguments. I also don't post here near as much as I used to.

I think Dowdell will be important, but have heard he lacks the big time speed. I long for the days of a complete back that can make short yardage plays, but also bust a homerun if needed. We haven't had that for awhile now and I think Nebraska is due for a big time back. Shit part is, Omaha used to churn them out. Hasn't seemed to happen for a bit.

Dowdell looked pretty jacked from the photo I saw.

Hopefully he’s had enough reps in the offseason the develop new habits and create new muscle memory.
It isn't muscle memory, its from the first instance you separate your hands,if he does that properly it will immediately raise his elbow and will take the ball to the proper release point.

It's like in baseball, when you separate with thumbs down, your arm will instinctively move the ball above your shoulder in order to get on top of the ball rather than push the ball.

I've heard multiple retired NFL coaches, GMs and scouts say the same thing. IF they can stand back in a clean pocket it might work for a while but when the bullets start flying they always revert to their original form.
As V-Doub said you can't overhaul mechanical issues from a technique position like pitcher or QB during the season. That has to be done over the off-season, and have that positive change cemented so it becomes a natural way of throwing.

I "think" a true QB coach can correct HH and make him way better as a thrower. At least, that is all of our hope.

With Dowdell I think we have a good 1-2 punch ar RB. Our top walk on back could play for a lot of D1 teams.

We can hope his decision making, ball security and accuracy get better but I can’t remember a single QB who worked on his mechanics in the off season make a noticeable change.
This. ^^^ He has developed his throwing motion to what it is and it won’t change much. His bigger issue is his lack of field vision, his propensity for turnovers and, despite what many say, his inability to make people miss him when running the ball. He is a good QB running threat when he gets a clear and open lane to run through. Otherwise, he isn’t very good.

He has great straight line speed.

have to say, that 90's Huskers font is looking tired.

never thought I would say that, but it's from an era so long ago, that is no longer looks even appropriate to me.

Also, I'm a big fan of HH and the new Co-OC.

I have low expectations of the RB room and think we should have gotten a better coach in there. We needed that room to be a strength to help our struggling passing game. I can only hope somebody in that room decides to make it his job.

Looking forward to the spring game and will be interesting to see who gets cut after spring ball is over.
