I think the Indiana HC certainly has the right idea about who to get in the transfer portal - players who have actually produced. His philosophy is to prioritize production over potential.Need to bring in the entire James Madison team for a look.
F yes!!
Funny Dana is giving this quote and not the head coach, but maybe I missed the reason why.
When you bring them in, do you get to work them out? Seriously, don’t know.
This is actually how the real world works. Should be the same in sports tooI think the Indiana HC certainly has the right idea about who to get in the transfer portal - players who have actually produced. His philosophy is to prioritize production over potential.
Kind of how Kansas State used to use the Juco route with high producing lower level players from winning juco programs before the portal started. I don't think its a forever fix if you want top tier football, but it is a way to flip the team and then you can sprinkle those players in after.I think the Indiana HC certainly has the right idea about who to get in the transfer portal - players who have actually produced. wrt portal guys, there is a reason they are in there. You want the guys who are after an opportunity and are good enough to get a taste of NIL dough.Kind of how Kansas State used to use the Juco route with high producing lower level players from winning juco programs before the portal started. Nebraska has tried to bring in flamed out 4 and 5 stars too much. Some work out like Trey, but most have intangible issues that will always hold them back.
Yes, and this is a different strategy than taking guys who aren’t cutting it at elite schools. I can think of several transfers from Texas, Georgia, Alabama, etc who haven’t made much of a difference after transferring hereThere is a ‘sweet spot’ with portal guys. IMO, it’s upper classmen from non Power conference schools that have proven to be good D1 players that have earned a ‘promotion’. Also guys from teams at the bottom of Power conferences that are looking to move to a “major market”, so to speak. Like moving from Purdue to Ohio State, as an example.
Rhule doesn't speak until 1 and Dana was on the morning show. Rhule will speak more to it this afternoon.F yes!!
Funny Dana is giving this quote and not the head coach, but maybe I missed the reason why.
that makes sense.Rhule doesn't speak until 1 and Dana was on the morning show. Rhule will speak more to it this afternoon.
With roster limits at 105, you're probably looking at bringing in 35-40 kids a year. 20-30 of those high school recruits, and 10-20 transfers I would imagine. And a lot of attrition in between.I think hitting the portal hard every year is gonna be the norm. I had thought retaining players and building a consistent team would be the best path and maybe still would be, but that’s gonna be impossible the way things are. So embrace it. Guys are gonna leave in droves, so just plug in someone new.
He was asked and he’s not afraid to put current players on notice. Rhule tries to be a little more discreet but the current roster is going to notice the visitors at their spotF yes!!

I like Dana but keep in mind that we scored a whopping 10 points against Iowa. He's not a miracle worker. I think he's right in saying we need to make a push for guys that can fill our needs asap. Which to me would be OL, RB, and WR in that order.Every time I here Dana talk, I like him more

It will help having him here spring and fall camp. Not a 4 week crash course.I like Dana but keep in mind that we scored a whopping 10 points against Iowa. He's not a miracle worker. He had multiple WRs schemed open that either Dylan didn’t see, didn’t hit or the WR didn’t make the catch at Iowa. After what l saw from Satt, Dana produced at least a remarkably different looking offense. No way Satt does that to Wisconsin.I like Dana but keep in mind that we scored a whopping 10 points against Iowa. He's not a miracle worker. Plays were there. Players didn't execute. Hopefully having DH around full time now will help with executionHe had multiple WRs schemed open that either Dylan didn’t see, didn’t hit or the WR didn’t make the catch at Iowa. Trey was the 3rd wr for an NFL factory in LSU. Plus he was a legit return man. He would go into the proven player from a winning program IMO.Kind of how Kansas State used to use the Juco route with high producing lower level players from winning juco programs before the portal started. Keep in mind that we left points on the field against Iowa too. Off the top of my head:I like Dana but keep in mind that we scored a whopping 10 points against Iowa. He's not a miracle worker. That's somewhat my point. Im not defending Satterfield but the same could be said throughout this season.K
Keep in mind that we left points on the field against Iowa too. Off the top of my head:
1. Raiola missed Lloyd for a wide open TD. Got a FG that drive so lost 4 points
2. Missed a chip shot FG, so lost 3 points there
3. Neyor dropped a wide open perfect pass. Lost at least 3 points there, very possibly 7.
Holgorson called the game well enough against Iowa to get 24 points. We didn’t get that because of players not making routine plays
Again I'm not saying I don't like DH. But we have had a WR's drop the ball all year long. We have had QB's miss open receivers all year long. We have had OL miss blocks for over a decade. There is a lot of blame that needs to be placed on these players too.He had multiple WRs schemed open that either Dylan didn’t see, didn’t hit or the WR didn’t make the catch at Iowa. After what l saw from Satt, Dana produced at least a remarkably different looking offense. No way Satt does that to Wisconsin.
Stealing our Vape pens!!!Yes, and this is a different strategy than taking guys who aren’t cutting it at elite schools. I can think of several transfers from Texas, Georgia, Alabama, etc who haven’t made much of a difference after transferring here
We can agree to disagree then. I saw noticeable, tangible improvement when Holgorson started. That's somewhat my point. Im not defending Satterfield but the same could be said throughout this season.
As a fan base we like to blame coaches for everything that ails us. But in reality they control very little of what is happening in the game.
Yea, maybe we should stop and actually wait for the food to be cooked. There is good young talent already in the depth chart with more to come. While this is the norm, I feel like Rhule is now coaching out of a position of fear. After yet another underwhelming season of missed opportunities and a blowout loss, he knows he really has to deliver next year or else his seat becomes hot.
And that’s not good for the program. It just continues the cycle of the last 20 years.

Or a position of initiative. Don’t let the laziness of the past regime jade the aggressiveness of the present and future. While this is the norm, I feel like Rhule is now coaching out of a position of fear. Dana just really needs to work with Dylan. If you go re-watch the game, Dana had dudes open all over the place. We just didn't find them from the QB spot.I like Dana but keep in mind that we scored a whopping 10 points against Iowa. He's not a miracle worker. Trev gave rhule enough rope to hang himself, which he of course didOr a position of initiative. Don’t let the laziness of the past regime jade the aggressiveness of the present and future.
Sherman had a solid year this year. Jeudy has looked good in the times he has gotten in. They're solid contributors. The TE from Georgia probably would have been good if he ever got on the field. The miss rate isn't as high as it's made out to be.I think the first school of thought was to get big names from big teams that did not get playing time.
I think that was wrong.
The key seems to be to get guys that have played 30-40 games, have lifted and practiced for 3-4 years and are 21-22 years old.
Looks off progressions too quickly is his major problem right now.Dana just really needs to work with Dylan. If you go re-watch the game, Dana had dudes open all over the place. We just didn't find them from the QB spot.
IF Dylan is truly coachable this is not that hard of a fix.Dana just really needs to work with Dylan. If you go re-watch the game, Dana had dudes open all over the place. We just didn't find them from the QB spot.
