Who knows hasn't shown much leadership so far.You think Dannen is the problem? If anything, he's our only bright spot

Why not?Do you buy a new pickup truck every time you need a new set of tires?
We're not buying out Dannon for $12 million so that we can hire the "best" AD with a $2 million bonus and $2 million a year. Then he can fire Rhule and staff for another $65 million. And hire a new staff for $12 million in the first year. That's upwards of $100 million dollars. How about we just hire a new OC instead?
Stop posting.Why not?
Unaffordable and not a wise use of financial resources. Why not?
You shouldn’t be drinking martinis at 5:00 in the morning..Hire the very best AD from the very best football school.

Cost matters. And we have some of the highest wasted costs in college football, and we aren't #1 in revenue or profit from the AD, and we pay for a lot of sports at NU compared to better football schools like Bama. Nebraskans are independent minded and conservative with their money. We aren't a big financial state, we don't have major industry or explosive corporate profits, and where we do have it, many of those folks don't care about anything West of Omaha. NU football is fed by everything west of Lincoln, one of the top agricultural producing states, but generally big AG guys aren't putting billions into a pointless endeavor like an oil man or Nike executive might, who is relying on slave labor for profits anyway. People had to wonder what it means when a state with almost no football talent wastes 50 million on buyouts over three coaches..well incompetence breeds incompetence and you get the worst program in college football. We need a dramatic reset, no name...small contract, small expectations, run the option or variant of power football. Fail, you are fired and start over. We have to do something nobody else is doing. Playing the same game, when we are 10-15 yards behind everybody else just leads to crappy seasons. We would have 2 wins with many teams schedules this season.Hire the very best AD from the very best football school.

Yeah, martinis do suck. You shouldn’t be drinking martinis at 5:00 in the morning..
This fiscally conservative attitude is what got us in this mess. Rhule was supposed to be the fiscally minded option as Alberts would say, and I think is the reason why Albert's was even interested in the first place. Well, Rhule balked at the first offer that was made, and then dipshit Albert's was scrambling to put a new offer together and way overpaid for Rhule with a huge buyout and contract term. But this is just the epitome of Nebraska leadership in recent years.Cost matters. promoting from within was the fiscally sound option.. but Ted Carter nixed that idea. This fiscally conservative attitude is what got us in this mess. Here we are, this is Nebraska where fiscal conservatism means $50 million buyout for coaches every few years, $200 million facilities upgrades which haven't amounted to jack shit, and half a billion dollar stadium renovations that significantly reduce seating capacity and makes it harder for families to see a game.
According to Rhule, Troy told him that going toe to toe with Ohio State means nothing when you can’t replicate that same level of play the next week.promoting from within was the fiscally sound option.. but Ted Carter nixed that idea.
Troy can promote from within again.. but if Troy and Rhule are buddies.. well then you gotta jettison the AD too if he wants to sit on his hands.
If Rhule does nothing, and Troy does nothing.. then what?
Will the BOR sit on their hands too?
What about Jeffrey Gold?
If they can fix Indiana Nebraska sure as hell can be fixedThere is nothing that can fix this. It's not fixable. We suck, the end. How many years do you need to watch this trash to realize the happy ending isn't happening? We are the worst major conference program in existence. How about fold the program, wait 10 years until the last scrap of connection to RIGHT NOW is nothing but a distant memory, and then start anew without the mentally fragile 1-150 players and coaches that continue passing this virus on year-after-year? That's as realistic as thinking a different AD is THE solution, FFS.
No kidding...If they can fix Indiana Nebraska sure as hell can be fixed
You can go back 10+ years and pick a team every year and say "If they can fix ______ Nebraska sure as hell can be fixed." You're ignoring a decade of black and white evidence. If they can fix Indiana Nebraska sure as hell can be fixed
IMO we’re a good OC away from being an 8-9 win team. Satt has to lose his play calling duties at the very least. Hopefully Rhile takes it over. A trained monkey could do a better job than Satt.No kidding...
NU is a lame super average team right now. It can literally all be different and they can be very good next year. Just get the right coaches in place. And there are a few players that just finally need to be gone and done with their time at NU.
Our hires have had issues. Frost was his own worst enemy. Riley would have been bowling his last season if he hadn’t been forced to hire Diaco and switch to a 3-4. Rhule has made a mistake it appears by hiring Satterfield as his play caller. I’m going to give him a chance to either fire him or dictate to him how plays are called. You can go back 10+ years and pick a team every year and say "If they can fix ______ Nebraska sure as hell can be fixed." It’s been 25 years since a conf championship. How long do you need? People think Neb is better than teams like Indiana. They can recruit their 500 mile radius and take the leftovers - their leftovers are better than the 500 around Neb. It’s not changing and what top AD or coach wants to come here and try and recruit? Every good coach or recruiter will leave after year 2 or 3 of living on a plane. No kidding...

It’s a lack of talent. Even if you get the number 1 kid, let alone QB, we screw that up. 8 wins is our playoff and 9 wins every 15 years with a pancake schedule is out NC.

Yes, but the optics of Nebraska hiring a guy like the old guy from "James Madison" might be too embarrassing for an AD. Our fanbase causes a lot of our problems by being too supportive if the guy is the "right cultural fit", whatever that means and then shitting immediately on the guy if the hire "doesn't seem right". That stuff matters to people thinking of coming to NU and taking slightly less money to try to build us back up. Trev was too shortsighted to emotionally imagine Cignetti "fitting in" at NU and he got fixated on not taking too long to make the hire. Our American training tells us that rich and successful people must be exceptional, but that doesn't apply to college athletics. If they can fix Indiana Nebraska sure as hell can be fixed
But what if he doesn't see it or refuses to do it. It's the ADs job ( who gets paid a heck of a lot less to be the boss) to have a good program and help themIn fairness to Dannen, we’ve already seen this tried before (Eichorst to Riley with Banker), and it was a disaster of epic proportions. The AD shouldn’t have to force the head coach at Nebraska to see what’s painfully obvious to even the most casual of football fans.
It’s not going to happen. We’re pot committed. Nor would I want us to clean house. There are some good things he’s doing but he either needs to can Satt or take ownership of the offense. He said repeatedly that 18 points isn’t good enough. We need to give him a chance to fix it.F that, it's obvious Rhule will never be the guy, get rid of his ass and let the new AD get the coach he wants
Well, that’s the problem. If Rhule doesn’t see it (or won’t see it), we’re screwed. But what if he doesn't see it or refuses to do it. It's the ADs job ( who gets paid a heck of a lot less to be the boss) to have a good program and help them
Great post.Well, that’s the problem. If Rhule doesn’t see it (or won’t see it), we’re screwed.
Eichorst forcing Diaco on Riley. Trev hiring Whipple for Frost. I hear what you’re saying, but I honestly can’t think of too many situations where an AD has successfully forced his own hire on a head coach and had it work out long term.
As angry as I am over losing to fricking 2-5 UCLA, I still hold out hope for Rhule doing whatever is necessary to get the job done here. By the time Frost left, I absolutely despised the guy, mainly because of his complete lack of work ethic and respect for the job. Rhule is the polar opposite in that regard; he works his ass off and drives his team and his coaches hard, and I don’t think there’s any question about that.
But it’s not going to work with Satt; it’s just not. You know it, I know it, and anyone who ever picked up (or even looked at) a football knows it. Rhule will either come to terms with that, or it’s just a matter of time before he’s on his way out of Lincoln.
