Can he play OT? A recruiting guy on the radio yesterday say he played some TE in high school.

I think Gottula is a true OT and Sledge is a true OG and the staff is high on both. It will be interesting to see if they start getting some PT. They can play in 4 regular season games and keep their redshirts and we only have 5 left.

Recruiting, like all others facets of the program was a cluster**** under Frost.
we can blame frost for hiring a guy with zero (0) recruiting experience, I suppose.

but after he signed the papers, it's his job. we cannot afford to put/keep inexperienced people in charge of one of if not the most important position group on the team.

Frost dictated offers not position coaches.

Rhule seems to have a handle on who can coach and who can't.

What's your issue with Raiola? Does he teach bad technique? Does he not have intense practices? Does he need to stay out of S&C?
There is a guy who is much more familiar with Raiola's coaching abilities than I am and it just so happens that this same guy makes the decision on whether Raiola will be employed at NU after the season. The oline was asked to do one thing for four years of Frost/Austin, then another thing for Whipple/Raiola and now another very different offensive approach with Rhule/Raiola.

my issue lies predominantly with his lack of recruiting experience.

Nebraska is not a place for a person who oversees the most important group on offense to learn on the job.

We’ve had a dearth of OT talent since Frost and Austin were hired. FIFY
yep

that dearth persists 2 years later despite operating in the most friendly player movement environment in college football history because our OL coach still needs training wheels

Raiola hasn’t been at Nebraska for 2 years. The O line recruiting was done for that year when he was hired. This year’s freshman class is his first class.

he was hired prior to both signing days in '21

experienced coaches bring recruits/transfers with them immediately

You mean college coach’s MIGHT bring players with them. Your guy from GTech was.coaching TEs at the time. How many OT’s was he going to bring along? None . Your crusade looks sillier by the minute.

why would frost hire Wiesehan?

he's worked with Rhule, had tons of success working with Rhule, sent tons of OL to the pros working with Rhule

why anybody would want a frost holdover - who was a fallback option - with zero experience to stick around and learn on the job at the most important position group on offense is beyond me

talk about a silly crusade. right up there with repeatedly calling for the worst qb in NU history (purdy) to get more playing time.

And that dude has bounced from team to team ever since Rhule left. Please tell me again then what recruits he was going to bring in from Temple if Rhule had hired him this past spring? I’ll answer for you since you keep dodging the question; none better than the freshmen class Raiola just signed.

Temple's starting LT is a true frosh and their RT is an NFL guy

he was also lead recruiter for their true frosh starting RB

would be nice to have all 3, along with a coach who knows what he's doing

you were a frost believer until the day he was fired. this will be no different.

RT is an NFL guy seems like wishful projection by a desperate hater. Show us Kiper’s projection.

So it’s your expert opinion that he’s an NFL OT. 😂. Stop it. You’re killing us. 😂.
currently grading out as a top 15 OT in the country in his first year starting, so, no, not my opinion, a fact

nobody's ever been more wrong more often than you

again, why anybody would want a frost holdover with zero experience to continue to be in charge of the most important position group on offense is beyond me

And you are ASS-uming that he or anybody else would have followed your guy to NU. Give up. Rhule didn’t hire him. It’s funny I don’t see anybody grading him as a top 15 OT but you.

PFF grades.

and yes, I don't think it's crazy to think a kid from Sweden who has grown into an NFL-type OT would follow his position coach to a new landing spot at a blue blood with a former NFL head coach his position coach has flourished under.

I look forward to Rhule hiring Wiesehan or whomever he likes this winter. nepo don will go back to fixing printers and bringing coffee to actual coaches and our OL will be much better for it.

I think many of us really don't give two shits as to whether Raiola is coaching in Lincoln, elsewhere, or if he sells insurance. We just think your fixation on him is weird and misplaced. The guy who is evaluating him for retention knows everything you know about Raiola and much more that you don't. I suspect NU would be experiencing the same level of play from the Oline if a different coach was in that room.
I don't think Rhule places as much value on experience as you do, or he wouldn't have hired a college grad as WR coach (who by all accounts is doing just fine). In public settings, Rhule pointedly defends the Oline and I've haven't year heard him utter something that could be construed as negative about Raiola. Rhule has a strong take on coaching the Oline and if he is not satisfied with Raiola's effort, he is hiding it quite well.

From listening to people who know OL, it comes back to a technique thing. No issues with intensity. No clue about S&C stuff.

I actually don’t think he is downright terrible. Our run blocking has improved a bit this season, and somehow Benhart has actually gotten better. But prior to injury, Corcoran looked lost on most plays. I don’t truly believe that falls squarely on TC’s shoulders. Pass blocking has been poor overall, and that usually comes back to technical stuff with hands, knees and feet philosophy.

Where is there anywhere projecting him to be an NFL OT?

right here, bud

6'8" 300lber, first year starting, 4th year playing offense

earned a single digit this past offseason

you'll see his name in draft discussions

fun fact: he was actually a foreign exchange student at Norfolk Catholic for a year. small world!
