Freshman QB, two So RB's and leading receiver a Fr, obviously help the numbers. In hindsight, would have been nice to just roll with Lloyd at WR snstead of Neyor, who hasn't produced much and will now be gone.
Skill positions, def not old. Oline, def old/experienced. I've maintained that Donovan can't be accurately judged as an Oline coach until he has three years with HIS recruits. I know some Oline coaches have come in and immediately turned about mediocre lines, but is that always apples to apples? This current line has two games to show what it's got.
My glass-half-full thought is Rhule has learned a very good lesson and will use his connections, reputation, and Nebraska's pocketbook to get a proven, big-time OC when that time comes. My biggest fear is he has McGuire learn under DH and just gives him the reins when DH leaves. Time will tell, I guess.
We should be one of the more attractive jobs with the culture, the young weapons and the difference DH was able to make in such a short time. If there is an up and comer out there that wants to be head coaching material the next 3 years have the potential to launch the lucky OC into a lot of convos.
hopefully we get a season or 2 before we have to find out.
3 years with HIS recruits means you're not going to judge him until after he's been here for 4 years (following the '25 season).
because he, of course, didn't sign a single kid in his first year on the job.

Maybe it is recency bais, since he played well on Saturday, but Banks seems more consistent and is a more willing blocker. Neyor has more speed and had a big game in the opener, but just hasn't been what we have needed. Hope they both show up big on Friday.
I get what you're saying, I really do, and I think that while the line has improved in pass pro, it sucks balls in the run game. Part of my point is that in two games DH has game planned/raised hell with all the offense, and the line has looked better since he arrived. It's too early to tell if his presence on the team and his play calling has improved the line. But if the line looks really good the next two games (and this is the point I was trying to make) then you could argue that the mediocre line play was due to Satt's game plan and in-game play calling, not Donovan's coaching.
Gotta say Banks looks better. Neyor seems to run lazy routes and doesn't block/fight for the ball enough.

I can't remember the last time we ran as many 2 TE sets as we did on Saturday
hell, we even ran a jumbo set on the goal line featuring not one but 2 DL in the backfield.
One could argue that maybe there’s a lot of guys out there who could make it fun other than Satt.
And pre-season we were treated with all sorts of promises of two TE sets, sometimes four. Dust in the wind.

You want a scary corollary?
Satt did not seem to be a ball-buster with his offense. A baby boomer comes in who gives zero shits about anyone's feelings, and BOOM! instant improvement.
Here's the corollary that should scare all of us: in the military basic training DI's would scream, insult and harass recruits to make them willing to charge up a hill under fire. Not now. In basic/boot, the recruits are able to report a DI who is demeaning to them, and the DI gets counseled and told to back off. God help us all.

I could see it. Rhule sees a very bright future with McGuire, and he's probably right. I'm sure he will be a D-I HC someday, but his moving on might just be best for both parties right now.
For next season, the TE group will have Flint and Ingwerson added to the mix. WRs will hopefully add Bell from his injuries, along with Hall, McMorris, Lloyd, Keelan, Jacory, plus maybe a portal WR or two.
I do like the potential, especially if we keep Holgorsen.
after the bowl game the primary focus should be in retaining DH and giving him whatever he wants. Frankly, we can’t afford to lose him… as some have mentioned, I don’t know if we will get so lucky the next time around
IF Dana stays, it will be his decision. Right now though the way things looked Saturday I'm fine with standing pat. Friday is a big test for our offense. Your OC makes all the difference in the world to your position coaches.
Satt is a really good dude. He's not a good play caller. I have no doubt that he's a very bright guy that knows more football than any of us, but he failed as our OC.
It will be interesting to see where he ends up.

It sounds like he's a good recruiter. He obviously was inexperienced but maybe the babysitter has taught him more in 3 weeks than he had learned in his previous 24 years. It isn't rocket science and the guy is a smart young guy. IF Dana keeps him, that says a lot.
Neyor had he got screwed as the very tip of his left foot grazed the turf before going back up. The good thing was 2 plays later was pretty much the same pass was completed to Banks in the back of the EZ. Those 2 passes that Dylan threw were money shots!
I have more faith that McGuire can learn to be a good OC. Than Satt.
For a "finesse" offensive attack, Dana has introduced a lot of physicality in the attack. I.E. Dowdell on the goal line with a couple of other big bodies and two tight ends.
You won't find any of us old timers that have a problem with physically beating the hell out of teams on the football field. Over the years, we've been witness to how it impacts an opponent AND the mindset the offensive team begins to adopt.
DH constantly pumping out Top Ten Offensive units year after year is no accident.
Correct. I'm not saying I want that. But there is more likely of a chance of that than Satt figuring it out.

Now, before the end of the season, would be a great time to announce a multi-year deal for him. It would help with recruiting.
