Didn’t see a previous post about this . How do we feel about the injury report? Any surprises? Alvano is listed as ‘limited’, have to be concerned that his window as a contributor is getting smaller. Did we already know issues with Dawson Merritt’s health?
Was surprised to hear Merrit as well. He rattled off seemingly 10 guys and the two surprised me most were the two you mentioned.

A lot of injuries on both lines. Not good. I don’t expect Turner or Teddy to ever play another down for us. More worrisome are Gottula and Lutovsky. Defensive line injuries will hinder the development of our depth on that already weakest part of our team.
Not drinking the off season koolaid this year. We are VERY average on both lines. And we will never be a top ten team again until that changes. I don’t see a first or second team all B1G player on either line. Or at running back. Or TE. Or in the defensive secondary.
I am sorry but we have not recruited well on either line. Ty and Polar Bear were Frost recruits. Ditto for guys like Benhart and Corcoran. This year will tell us a lot about whether or not the guys Rhule has brought in, either as high school recruits or portal transfers, are any good. I am going to withhold all hope for a break out season this year until I see how these new faces perform, especially on the defensive line.

Personally, I think our defense takes a big step backwards this year without Ty and Polar Bear. We are going to miss their line clogging capabilities.

Good thing our schedule this year has six teams on it we can beat.

I’m going to look at as the young lineman waiting in the wings and 3 or 4 are only redshirt freshman along with Sophomore Sledge that will get some valuable reps and Lutovsky will still be limited.

Ty and Polar bear will be big pieces to replace for sure but it’s not as bleak as you think.

From the article linked below:

Considered out for Nebraska football in spring practice

  • WR Demitrius Bell
  • WR Carter Nelson
  • WR Keelan Smith
  • TE Mac Markway
  • OL Turner Corcoran
  • OL Gunnar Gottula
  • DL Conor Connealy
  • DL Jaylen George
  • LB Roger Gradney
  • LB Dawson Merritt
  • LB Pierce Mooberry
  • DB Jamir Conn
  • DB Evan Taylor

Considered limited for Nebraska’s spring session

  • OL Henry Lutovsky
  • OL Teddy Prochazka
  • DL David Borchers
  • DL Sua Lefotu
  • PK Tristan Alvano
While Rhule wasn’t specific about everyone on this list, he did offer up that Prochazka, who has sadly been hurt for the most part of his Nebraska football career is only listed as limited but is basically out. David Borchers on the other hand is expected to be full go at some point in spring practice, but not at the outset.

Spate of injured Nebraska football players will sit out, or be limited for spring

I can appreciate the kool-aid comment, however, some credit is due for the two Olinemen who have solid starts and experience from Notre Dame and Alabama. If they can stay healthy I would expect Oline to improve.

I’m cautiously optimistic in the development of our Dline. Robinson and Nash will be missed but hopefully the collective unit is ready to step up. Nice thing about college is the new guys adding an extra year of experience and size/strength can be transformative. Hopefully that is the case!

It’s been 3 months since
The season ended. Did most of these guys have surgery or something?

Some guys we knew like Bell, etc. but how are so many injured unless they had something that wasn’t reported? We need to hit the portal this spring for more linemen, DL and OL

You are not going to hear about every player having procedures after the season. Some are minor and just cleaning some stuff up . If you’re not 100 percent you are going to be at least limited in spring. With the large number especially on the OL and DL it’s another reason of no traditional spring game.

It's just another reason to be a pussy.

Pennsy is being too harsh about both lines, specifically the Oline. Agree with Rbigredmax that the ND lineman and the guy from Bama are good additions, although I'm not excited about the Bama kid's off-field activities. He may be a very good lineman but also a potential cancer in the locker room if he does anything else unsavory.

Not too concerned with Gunnar being out for the spring. I mean, missing the spring field work is not good but there isn't a team in America that doesn't have some degree of important cogs missing time. It happens, but I would like to see better quality depth on both lines.

The transfers from ND and Alabama are welcome additions. But neither one was a difference maker at their former school. And that is my point. Nebraska will continue to languish as a middle of the pack B1G team until we start recruiting linemen who are on the same upper tier talent level as the best teams in the conference. Nebraska hometown media, like all hometown media, overhype these kinds of transfers in feel-good stories leaving the impression that we just got an All American lineman. What we got are middle of the pack dudes. Solid. But nothing exciting.

I did not say it was bleak. I just pointed out that both lines are very average. And that we will take a step back next year on defense. The young guys have to prove that they are good

Agree. The ND and Bama kids are question marks. I am looking forward to see where both lines go this season, one with a new position coach.

He was a starter on a national title team? Bama kid was a starter at … Bama. These are considered question marks now?

So with the supposed switch to a 105 for the Fall, we basically need to make cuts after spring ball? We can’t possibly have kids not know if they will make the 105 come into Fall and then get cut right before the season… wouldnt that be too crazy? I would think we would give them a chance to catch on somewhere else right?

Post spring the roster will be trimmed again. Most of the kids getting cut likely already know they are getting cut.

They are roughly equivalents to Benhart and Scott, but both have started places where the Oline competition has been a bit more fierce than in Lincoln. Gottula, Luto and Evans are now solid starters, with possibly Corcoran and Teddy as depth if they get healthy. Another year with the same coach. Line play should improve with 5 starters returning.

Would be neat to see Raiola after 4-5 months in the weight room. Even getting him to Mahomes level fitness would be a big upgrade.

If I recall correctly the ND kid was a starter last season due to injuries of players in front of him. I'm not saying he's bad, but he wasn't going to start if the guys in front of him hadn't gone down.

Bama kid, he knew he had an STD and had unprotected sex with a woman anyway. I really don't give a crap how good of a player he is, that is nasty. Maybe he learned something and is good now, but as my post said, he could be a locker room cancer if he hasn't.

They already communicated to the players where they would stand if the season had started. There were some who know they won’t be on the 105 - but opted to stay with the team until the last possible chance. Others hit the portal. The staff has done a good job of communicating and being transparent IMO.
