Smothers was one of the worst passing qb’s I’ve ever seen last year. Maybe slightly better than mcaffrey. Haarberg I can’t comment on, but being whip loves to throw, I doubt he’s 4th string for no reason. RJ had his chance today and blew it. He couldn’t get On the field even when frost was here and didn’t do anything impressive last year. Not sure why the hate for grant…he’s been great behind one of the worst offensive lines I’ve ever see
Whipple is most likely making these decisions, and he’s just not a good OC.
I think MJ will understand why he didn’t make the cut. Just inherited the funk.
No they are not. Purdue’s defense is no where near the level of Illinois’
Smothers looked like Joe Montana compared to Purdy. In his start against Iowa, a much better D than Illinois, he went 16-22 for 198. I'd take that any day over that garbage we witnessed today.
Whipple is a good OC if you can throw all the routes he wants to run. If you cannot do all of these things, he will still call these plays and let you drown. If you can throw all these, he seems like a genius.
Kong…. we were losing this game regardless. Honestly you get worked up and you start talking nonsense. It was one terrible play out of dozens. I know you’re a “deny til you die” guy, but Illinois is a better team, period.
Well it was the Coaches that got fired that were responsible for this dumpster fire of a roster. I could count maybe 6 true difference makers on the current roster. Some are serviceable and many are non-contributors.
I won’t blame Mickey for the inability to turn around a 4 years mess in a matter of weeks. This roster lacks the talent and football IQ to compete in the BIG-10. Mickey was given a Herculean task given the lack of talent on this team.

Northwestern beat us earlier doing just that. ..the score should have been 13-9 at worst at half.
We did not play to win once Thompson got knocked out. We played like scared pussies trying to not lose TOO badly by playing very conservatively shortening the game
Looks like my analysis was same as HCMJ about Chubba playing nervous and without confidence. But also, it doesn't take a national recruiting analyst to see that
