Yeah that's a good comparison too. TO would have been shit canned in today's day and age of college football.

However had Frank been coaching in the current playoff system. He probably would have been in not only the 2001 NC but also the 99, a team that went 12-1 and whooped Tennessee in the fiesta bowl. That would have been 2 NC's which equate to Days total in an era where 1 loss doesn't kill you.
The 1999 team was probably better than the 2001 team. Can’t believe the butter finger day we had against Texas! Our only blemish that yea! Can’t believe our horrible record against Texas! smh

I do agree the 1999 team likely wins the NC. That team was the last roster of Osborne recruits primarily in the 2-deep and coming off the mid-90s dominance.
I don't think the 2001 team would have made it to the final in a playoff, and might have exited relatively early. The game prior to the NC they got demolished by an above-average CU team. There was also a very good Texas team that year that was probably the 2nd or 3rd best team in the country that was upset in the B12 championship. Oregon was also good that year and soundly beat CU in the Fiesta Bowl.
The 2000 team was actually better than the 2001 team. Their only losses were to the eventual champion Oklahoma and a KSU team that only lost to Oklahoma and soundly beat Tennessee in the bowl game.

Agree. So some pretty damn good teams during his tenure. That 7-7 year hurt him badly. But the fan/booster agitation had already started the bleeding the year after he took over for Tom. That 9-4 season was too much for most of us to handle after a decade of being spoiled.

Most people could see that the 2001 team had some issues long before the CU and Miami beatdowns. The offense was a one-trick (Crouch) pony. Our backfield and skill talent was subpar compared to prior years and everything relied on the OL to carry us. The defensive line was a step down from prior years and CU just ran it right at us for 60 minutes knowing they could blow us off the ball. The one top-10 team we beat that year (OU) had a crappy offense.
Nobody was going to beat Miami that year, but Oregon or Texas would have made a better game of it. It was one of the most painful games I've ever watched because of the talent disparity.

Can't really argue with any of that. That Colorado beat down was such a pathetic example of not adjusting...and that was on Bo. We weren't going to beat Miami but had we not gotten smoked by Colorado maybe our psyche would have been in a different place and we would have competed differently.

I'm certainly not saying that FS was perfect. My feeling has always been that Frank had to right the ship and he was making changes to do so, and that his firing was horrible timing.
