Please forgive my delay in coming here to connect with you. It is a brutal moment when we hear of such a loss, and having been to Lincoln when we played you a couple of years ago, Huskers fans are the most amazing fans I've experienced so I wanted to come here and tell you of my sadness, as well as others in the Rutgers community. You have a wonderful fan whose screen name is HuskersAlways, who has endeared himself enormously to our board and fanbase, and it brings special sadness for us toward those in your community to have to go through this. The loss is too much to take in in one moment, but I wanted to express my condolences and sadness for your community and the Foltz family. Sam's memory will live on, but damn-it it's too early for memories to play a part in his life in this way. I'll be thinking about you all and hope in some way that the next weeks and months and years bring some measure of healing for the Foltzes and for the Huskers Nation.

Thank you to all the Rutgers folks for your kind words. I've had to stay away from the board for the last few days. Seeing all of the reminders about Sam on the front page just emotionally wears you out.

Initially the well wishes can be hard because it makes it that much more real that the outside world is confirming what it is preferable to disbelieve. Eventually it provides marginal relief and comfort being part of a collective that is grieving. As Anne Lamott said, "the only way to get over grief is to grieve." It's so true, and harsh at the same time. Hang in there. You'll get through it, and you'll be changed.
