Running Back

I think the OP means we need depth. Emmit can’t do it alone. All those backs mentioned had a number 2

Rozier and Craig
Calvin and Derek
Calvin and LP
LP and Green

Dubois and Jones were in the same back field, though injury obviously kept them from really playing a lot together

We don’t have depth at Rb and really need to find a second back. God forbid EJ goes down. I think Ives is the back they are penciling for that 2nd back but if he doesn’t make significant strides in spring I think they ship him out and go to the portal.

It will be interesting to see what the two incoming freshman can do too. I think the have to give Booth a look at RB now. You never know, he could be the next Skattebo or Jeantry. Neither of those guys were big recruits. Skattebo was a no star (aka platinum 5 star) and Jeantry was a 2 star. Heck most people didn’t give Emitt a chance either

We need that alpha back. If you go look at most of these CFP teams, they all have an alpha back. PSU has 2, OSU has 2, Skattebo is basically 2, etc... Our OL isn't fantastic, but if we had a big time back, we probably have at least 2-3 more wins on the W/L. There were multiple times where if the back goes to where they should it is 6 and that happened multiple times a game.

I hope Parker develops into that Alpha.

Roger obviously qualifies as does Rathman at FB. Roger wasn't a great college player though, even though he probably should have been. Fit in perfect in that SF offense.
I don't agree Craig was not a great college player. Yes, his total rushing yards stats were not eye-popping but that was solely because his career overlapped too much with the best statistical back in NU history. His per carry stats as a Soph/Jr were very impressive. Guess my view is also influenced by his willingness to move to FB as a senior for the benefit of the team when he could have been the starter at nearly every other school in the country- a foreign concept in todays college FB world.

Also, I'd take a back like Dubose any day - guy was going to be a Heisman candidate before blowing out his knee before his senior year. He still made an NFL roster despite that devastating injury.

I wouldn’t give him too much credit for moving to fullback and not transferring his senior year. The transfer rules were much stricter then. He would have had to sit out a year, which meant that transferring was not a realistic option for most players. If it was today, he more than likely would hit the transfer portal.

Roger Craig was a great college football player. Dominant. But Roger Craig was also a great team player. Moving to fullback for his last season at NU and ran for about half as many yards as he had in his junior season.

Oregon’s alpha back looked like a beta last night. Gimme the pipeline and a nasty D line first.

How good was Henderson against the Huskers?

We still don't have that great alpha back. I'd like to have two of them like Michigan had last year. Emmet is nice but we need Lawrence, Ahman, Mike. I'll settle for Rex, Ameer, Roy.
I like our RB situation. I don't think it would be wise to spend a lot of NIL dollars on a running back. Rhule's talked a lot about playing freshmen right away in this new era. Jamarion Parker is said to be able to run a lot like Emmitt does except Parker has that great track speed. So Parker is going to get a great shot at playing right away. I think that's our top two backs right there. There are others in the mix who the coaches like a lot. I like Kwinten Ives as a short yardage specialist- at 6' 2" he could get very good at leaning in and falling forward for 1st downs.

Booth is a bigger kid and while he played at a mid sized HS in Nebraska, he dominated like one would expect he should. I don't know how things are going to work out with baseball though. Is he going to try to play both sports or just focus on football?

Sadly I don’t believe they will go after another back in the portal. I heard that one of EJ’s stipulations on coming back was that NU not pursue another back.
Well he's already back and I assume he has an NIL deal. Call his bluff. Don't know how Rhule keeps getting played by college kids when it should be the other way around.

Well he got hurt... So there's that, and also I didn't say anything about the line. I'll take a great line, but you again missed the point.
Ohio State's defensive line was wrecking Oregon's offensive line, so there is that. That said, Jordan James is a premier back.
