Your last undefeated record was 1921. Your last National title was 1958 I believe.Last outright conference championship was 1985. Ranked 66th in all time wins. So yeah you need to earn it as previously stated

History matters NONE......it's all about current year bro.........I do like your knowledge about Iowa history though.......shows you have paid attention :)

Deathly afraid? Hardly. NE will lose on Friday to a much better team. Even if you win, it's win #6 vs our 11. Sorry, just a fact.
How many top 10 teams have you beat this year. After Friday we will have beaten 2 with our 6-6 record?

Actually, it was 1922. :)
Everything you stated has truth to it. But since we are division rivals and will be playing for many years to come, how about some respect? Like you used to give OU? Maybe?

Here, i will show Iowa some respect that i believe they deserve. You guys have a good wrestling team, solid basketball team and your baseball team is pretty good, too. THIS YEAR your football team is solid, not good and defently not great but solid.

This game against the Huskers and the Big 10 champ game will truely show us and other teams just how good you guys are or how average you guys are. The next few weeks will make or break your season. If You guys beat the Huskers and then hang with MSU in the champ or knock them off, you guys WILL get a lot of well deserved respect. Now if the Huskers beat you guys like im guessing they will, everyone will know for fact that you are an average team that just beat teams they where suppose to.

I have to laugh because a month ago, my NU fans and I were jumping up and down and high 5'ing and hugging and toasting because we were 100 percent united in our excitement that the Royals had finally won a World Series (been a huge Royals fan since I knew what a baseball was).......Now, just a few short weeks later, as a huge Hawkeye fan, my NU friends now hate me.......gotta love sports!! hehehehehe

I'm not suggesting you switch teams at all. Did you folks treat Oklahoma, your biggest rival back in the day, like you are treating Iowa now? I'd like to think you gave them some respect. I can't speak for all Iowa fans, but that's all I really want.
As the late Lloyd Bentsen once told Dan Quayle 'senator, I know Oklahoma, I played Oklahoma,i was friends with Oklahoma. You, sir, are no Oklahoma"

Certainly not trying to be Oklahoma. But in today's college football world, Nebraska and Iowa are in the same division and the same conference, and will be playing each other every year, from now until....?
Mutual respect. It's a good thing. I respect Nebraska and it's football program. You?

I respect this opinion. Don't totally agree with it, but I respect it.

I have respect where respect is due. While I certainly don't like it I respect FSU, I respect Miami, I respect Michigan and Michigan State and Ohio State and USC and Alabama and Oklahoma and Texas and Texas A&M and Penn State and Florida and Georiga and Notre Dame and LSU. NO I don't respect Standford, or Oregon, or TCU, or Baylor or KSU or Ole Miss or Mississippi State or Rutgers or Arizona or Arizona State or Iowa. You've done nothing. Congrats, once every 10-15 years you turn in 2-3 teams that are worth a damn, but in the grand scheme of things you've done absolutely SHIT compared to the teams I respect. Frankly I have more respect for a 7-4 Miami team that we lost to than an 11-0 Iowa team. If your 11-0 came against Ohio State and Michigan, then there would be greater deal of respect. But the fact of the matter is that your 11-0 came against North Texas, and Illinois, and Minnesota, etc. Yes, we lost to Illinois, yes we lost to Purdue, but there is A LOT to the story. Much of which is beginning to clear itself up. And if you think Iowa is facing the same team Purdue faced, you're in for a BIG surprise. If Iowa comes in thinking, "oh, they lost to Illinois and Purdue..." you're going to leave with an ass kicking. This team is turning the corner and you better believe they are capable of contending with the best of the Big Ten. That's why we have a lack of respect. Beat us, beat MSU, go beat Alabama or Clemson, then do it again next year and you'll gain our respect. Outside of that, this is just another typical once a decade Kirk Ferentz flash in the pan.

All I'm saying is that now that Iowa and Nebraska are divison and conference rivals for many years to come, is how about some mutual respect? That's all my original post was meant to say. Once again, did you treat the Sooners like this? Or was there mutual respect?

You keep elevating yourself to Oklahoma. Utilize Google to give yourself a history lesson. For 40 years Nebraska and Oklahoma played a game that would decide the Big 8 championship. You (and us) have a long way to go to earn that respect amongst our two teams. May I suggest you know who you are and get comfortable in your own shoes.

What exactly do you want? Yes, there are some idiots on this board. However, the national narrative and the general feel on this board is that Iowa deserves credit for being undefeated and they control their own destiny. Go win out. No one thinks you can do it because you don't recruit very well, you haven't played anyone (not your fault and don't try to sell me Pitt, NW, or UW), and nothing in KF's history points to any indication that you can finish it out.

Win your remaining games. Earn your respect. Do it again next year. And stop crying. It's a bad look on you, Iowa fan.

Gray, appreciate what you're attempting here. Hopefully, in time, it will happen. We've seen this from Colorado in the late 80s early 90s and Kansas State in the 90s. The respect between Oklahoma and Nebraska had been built up over 80 games or so... And the overall series was relatively equal (Oklahoma leads the series by 7 games or so). When Colorado replaced Oklahoma as the day after thanksgiving game, husker fans worldwide threw a fit. You don't just replace a rival like that. We didn't respect Colorado. The fact is, we didn't even like them. And it turns out, their program was just a flash in the pan. Husker fans grudgingly respect what Bill Snyder has done at K State. How can you not?

It will occur over time, but can't be forced. One of the biggest factors in the mutual respect, I believe, was how fans treated each other. We've definitely lost that on message boards, and also in person to an extent. I've seen a lot of respectful Iowa posters, and some less so. I'm sure the same could be said on your board about husker fans.

If you have the good fortune to be in memorial stadium on Friday, you will be amazed at the respect fans will show your team. Collectively they may get booed coming out of the tunnel, but you will hear individually throughout the game a ton of respect for the accomplishments of your team.

Sorry about the other "Hawkeye fans" jumping in here.
But, once again, did Nebraska treat Oklahoma like this back in the day? I thought there was mutual respect there.

There was mutual respect because Oklahoma was Oklahoma. In the 70's and 80's we were on par with OU at the time, but really couldn't compare with them historically and at the time OU knew we were a threat to match them historically and then throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's we matched OU historically. And OU owns the all time record between the two schools by a single game which came down to the 2008 Big 12 Championship. So yes, there is mutual respect that was built over the course of 3 decades. From 1970 to 2009 OU won 20 Conference Championships and 4 National Titles. During the same time period NU won 17 Conference titles and 5 National Titles. So yes, there was reason for mutual respect.

So far NU leads the NU-Iowa rivalry 29-13-3, so yeah, sorry if we don't give you the respect you feel you deserve. Compared to our previous Black Friday rivalries with OU and CU, you don't have anything worth respecting.

EDIT - OU LEADS the series by 7 games 45-38 and so many ties, not by a single game. So I was wrong on that account.

All you have to do is look at Iowa senior day, how many fans showed up, now come Friday look at our house 91000 be there and we don't even have a winning record! I personally have never liked Iowa so I hope we come out and kick some Hawkeye ass!

I'm comfortable in my shoes. Are you in yours? I know who I am. What do I want? Respect, plain and simple. Sorry all Cornhusker fans NOT on the internet, but Nebraska fans (on the internet) have consistantly talked down to ALL of their B1G breteren since they joined the conference. I think you can ask ANYONE, even some of your own fans, to confirm this.
Crying? I'm certainly not doing that, for Pete's sake. (Or Delmar's) :)
Do this again next year? Iowa is still working on THIS YEAR. Worry about next year when it comes.

Wow.
I understand your long history with OU, and the very close W/L margin. And the length of the series.
But the question remains;
Did you treat the Sooners the way you treat the Hawkeyes?

To answer your question, no Nebraska fans did not treat Oklahoma like this. We respected the hell out of the Sooners, because unlike the insecure Hawkeyes fans, Oklahoma fans didn't hate Nebraska just because we are one of the greatest football programs of all time. If Nebraska had a football history like Iowa the Hawkeyes fans wouldn't have any contempt for Nebraska. Iowa fans simply hate Nebraska because we're a blueblood program in spite of being an even more rural state than Iowa...this fact drives Hawkeye fans insane!

Change your attitudes and maybe you'll get some respect...

OU was my 2nd favorite team and still go to games there with my Husker gear on. My son goes to school there now so it was always respect for me. I am treated very well even wearing my gear, both sides to this day wish we still played every year. Game day in Lincoln or Nroman was awesome.

Uhhhhhh, Kinnick doesn't hold 91000, nice try.......also, what else is there to do in Nebraska? Nothing.......I live there and know. I'm telling you I was at Kinnick last Saturday and the weather was terrible......even getting there was a bit of a PITA........As far as Friday goes, I'm guessing that close to 20000 of that 91000 will be black and gold.

See, talking a little smack is a lot more fun than respect.

Wow.

Probably not.. There was no internet back then. How many interactions on a yearly basis would the Average Husker fan have with an Oklahoma fan? Once every two years before the game in Lincoln?

I'm a fan of you though, GrayHawk. Good people.

To answer the Oklahoma question. Yes Nebraska and Oklahoma had, and still have, a mutual respect.

However, our more recent rivalries with Colorado and Mizzou were anything but. They hate(d) us with a passion, take a trip to the main board if you want some examples. A lot of that came from decades of beat downs. When they became competitive, they couldn't wait to harass Nebraska fans. Obviously we didn't want to hear it from a team we beat 38 times in a row (Mizzou) and it really got personal.

To many this feels a lot more like Mizzou than Oklahoma, but I would definitely prefer a rivalry more like OU, which will require us to play competitive high stakes games.

I certainly can't speak for the attitudes of all the Iowa posters. I woud not even BEGIN to try. But ask yourself, or yourselves, why are they this way? Could they have been provoked? Maybe? By a small minority of the Nebraska (Internet) fan base? It's human nature to retalitate and sling mud back at where it comes from. Again, not trying to start a p*ssing match, but look at what the Hawkeye fans have had to put up with.
Insecure? Not a chance. Again, I can't speak for all of Hawkeye fandom, but, IMHO, no.
No, Iowa fans are not insane. I'm guessing we're just die-hard football fans like you.

The all time series between the two programs leans heavily in favor of the Huskers. Even if you win on Friday the conference record still leans in favor of the Huskers. 11-0 is nice, and if NU were 11-0 I'd be thrilled. But the fact is the best team you've played is Northwestern which very few are sold on. After then your best win is against Wisky whom you barely beat and we barely lost to. Respect is earned and it takes years. You very well may earn our respect, but it's going to take several years of 9-2, 10-1, 11-0 seasons. A single year of 11-0 against arguably one of the easiest schedules in P5 football will not gain you much respect.

I first encountered Iowa fans hatred for Nebraska back in the 1970's...WAY before the internet. Many of these Hawkeye fans also turned into huge Oklahoma fans because they enjoyed watching Nebraska lose more than they enjoyed Iowa winning (which they rarely experienced in the 1970's).

I really do understand the CU and Mizzou "rivalries".
At the time, those teams wanted to be like Nebraska. And the rare time that they won - WOW.
The B1G is different. The teams really do have mutual respect. It is really the very best conference in the land. Be very proud you are a part of it - I certainly know that I am. And I think the high-stakes games are coming very, very soon - perhaps as soon as 40 hours from now! :)

I'll say this... Hawkit113 and Hawkeye King are respectful posters here. And there are others as well. I have nothing but respect when posters are respectful. Gray, I haven't seen enough of you to say you are respectful, but I'm leaning that way. :)

I've never gone to another team's site to post anything. Never felt the need to. But if I did, I would be super respectful. It's like I'm entering someone else's house. Treat it with respect. If husker fans on the Iowa sites did this, and Hawkeye fans on the husker sites did this, there would be a ton more respect.

Well, I'll have you know....I'm an old fart. I was 14 at the time of the Game of the Century. You do the math. I cheered my a** off for Jerry Tagge, Johnny Rodgers, Jeff Kinney, etc. in Nebraska's 35-31 win on Thanksgiving Day, 1971. :)

You're not comfortable in your own shoes because you keep saying you deserve the same amount of respect as Oklahoma. You clearly have no perspective as to what those games meant to those states and the history of college football. Rivalries and respect are built over time.

You keep whining that you want respect, but you can't verbalize what that means.

So again, what do you want?

You certainly deserve credit for winning all of your games. Win out and there is no question you're in the final four. I don't think you can do it.

Bring your best Friday.

Unfortunately, every fan base has jerk off fans. There are threads on the Iowa board that are so ridiculous, I won't even open them. If you go to both boards, you have fans that are "sure" that their team is going to win. It's ok to think that.......however, you better be ready and willing to eat crow if your prediction doesn't pan out. Nobody sitting here has any idea who is going to win the game on Friday..........I also have the opinion that program history means nothing when it comes to the current season. Tommy Frazier (the best option QB of all time imho) has nothing to do with the game on Friday other than he might be in the stadium......Do I want the Hawks to win? Yes, I want the Hawks to demoralize the Huskers on Friday. Will they? I have no idea.

Respect. That's what I want. I never said, and you can look back, that I never equalized (Is that even a word?) Iowa with Oklahoma. I understand the years that build up a rivalry.
Ours (Nebraska & Iowa) is in it's infancy. As the years go by, it might even become better than Nebraska's and Oklahoma's - certainly not in my lifetime, but maybe others on this board.
That's all I want. Respect.
Maybe Iowa can't do it - but maybe they can.

It is easy to have the bravado when it really isnt you that has to back it up. Think how stupid this all is when grown me (allegedly) go on a message board and talk stupid trash they have no control over. I taught kids in high school to always respect your opponent, no matter the sport and the record. The mindless chatter is nothing more than an exercise of one person thinking their mental acuity is so much higher than another. Common sense has no place in said opinions.

For the record, there is nothing for Iowa to be ashamed of. They have won them all so far and congrats on that. Heck we cant even beat hapless Purdue so why should we even boast? We had one good game with Minny only to show we really werent over the hump. We beat MSU but we were due something going our way. Until we can actually stop someone I would have nothing to say but good luck. I will let the players decide all if this. We are all a bunch of wanna bes.
