Ok, I get it. He's a 5 star QB and he doesn't play defense (which is another topic). But let's look at this game and his season performance.
USC didn't have much of any pass rush. We had one blown block sack given up. The OL which is always trashed on here was controlling the line for the most part.
And yes, our receivers aren't elite. But they were getting open many times and Raiola just didn't throw their way. He throws frequently into tight coverage as if he just hopes for either a contested catch or a penalty. Why? We should have had at least one more TD if he bothered to look to the left and hit the wide open guy.
I bought into the hype. I thought he was a Trevor Lawrence and we would win now. But even Lawrence can run and plays with a determined edge. I don't see that right now from Raiola. He looks nonchalant.
I would have benched him. I think his development requires it. I think we need more competition in the QB room. Everyone needs to fear for their job. Period.

This program hitched its wagon to Raiola way back in late 2021 when we hired his uncle. We’ve gone all in on him and barring injury he’s going to start given his $2 million dollar NIL deal.

I agree on the competition. But unfortunately we don’t have it this year our backup is a TE playing QB Dylan knows this . In a perfect world we would have had McCord from OSU also but both wanted a guarantee. Rhule was in tough spot he wanted both but both weren’t coming. He had to choose. FYI hindsight is 20/20 but this board would have crucified him if chose McCord and let Dylan walk.

Well, he will never achieve greatness by being coddled, if the NFL is his goal. He needs to be told what is what.
Don’t disagree whatsoever. Him being coddled and hailed as a savior is just another example of this program’s obsession with fetishizing the past. He wouldn’t even be here if his father’s name wasn’t on the stadium wall.

I’m hopeful Holgerson can spur some development. He had clearly regressed the last few games. I’d argue today was better seeing the field, but agree on lack of edge.

His playing style has always been more relaxed going back to his hs tape, but he seems to have lost confidence and is playing timid. To be honest I don’t think benching him is going to help that or our chances of winning. But it’s been disappointing nonetheless

Sorry, but every numbnut on this board will say that until they see what is backing him up.
Plus, I will give at least some slack to a true freshman.
I don’t assume that any of the backups are better, and if they are not better then Dylan still needs all the reps. He hasn’t been perfect by any stretch but better than what we had before.

A full off season with Holgorsen would help. Tough to expect a huge difference in a week.

And if we make a bowl, that’s another 2-3 weeks of practice.

Trust me, this is on Rhule, but it appears that he does seem to acknowledge the mistakes and that’s all we can hope for at this point. I will also feel much better after the season if we upgrade 3-4 of the other coaches also
I fully believe that it will happen

Coaches wont tell him to take his first read and stop playing schoolyard.
DH might help
I thought he was much better on the shorter routes today. He seemed to make the decision a lot quicker. Anything beyond that, he seems hesitant, whether that is no separation or him being afraid to make a mistake, I'm not a 100% sure.

I think he will benefit greatly from DH. I wouldn't sit him now.

I am in this boat also. Hopefully we can beat whisky and get to a bowl. Just curious on which 3-4 you are talking about?
