Complain all you want about other issues, but we really would be 7-1 had he made those passes. He has also overthrown open receivers on long passes which were not in the end zone. It only underscores that he is talented but still a work in progress. He has been very good but certainly not a freshman phenom. I think Adrian Martinez had a better freshman year than Raiola is having.

He seems to be regressing IMO. I know the competition has gotten better, but you can't tell me Rutgers defense is world beaters. I think he has a LOT to learn.

What he is great at is improvising, and is better then the vast majority of QB's

What he struggles with is taking a 3 or 5 step drop and hitting a receiver in rhythm. He is a freshman, and I am going to give him a pass. However, this is something that he needs to fix ASAP

He finally is realizing he can make some plays with his feet when there is daylight ahead of him that was a positive for him yesterday..

Too many missed opportunities again where we should have won that game..

The ncaa has a rule for unsportsmanlike conduct on fans, if the disrupt the game by throwing items on the field the should be penalized 15 yards, the problem is that the officials didn’t have the stones to do it against Texas or Ohio State, just wait till Nebraska fans do something like that, we’ll definitely get flagged

Not denying that. All I am saying is to pump the breaks on the Raiola/Mahomes stuff and realize the kid is human. It does not help his development at all to have all of these unrealistic expectations put on him.

Man tough crowd. Sure maybe he isn't a phenom. But I believe he is the only true freshman to start every game last qb. Has there been mistakes? Sure. But he started the first few games 70 percent plus in completion percentage. ALA against weaker competition. I think Schiano gave a blue print to defend him. But geez what help has he had. At times terrible oline play. No running game. And Satt.... Enough said. WR that have really struggled to get separation. In my opinion if he keeps a little confidence with using his legs. That can help tremendously. Timing does seem to be an issue with his receivers. As a true freshman. And all the adversity in this offense. He will be fine.

I will add that’s what happens when you what to be a passing team, the quarterback usually isn’t 100% , look at the dropped balls the receivers have dropped, neyor is sloppy on holding onto the ball, had he secured the ball we beat Illinois, so many missed opportunities by the whole team

This is time that you sink or swim as a QB... How do you adjust to the adjustments? So far, not so good. He needs to listen to the coaches and get out of his comfort zone, his superior talent is now equal or below average.

How about 1st and 15 and you run 2 screens in a row after watching nearly every screen fail except 1 to Barney. And the down field passing was either drawing PI or making a good catch?

Maybe a back shoulder fade? I think our problems are with the OC. I think he’s a bozo and our kids aren’t bought into him.

We have the exact same shit offense as last year and that’s actually an accomplishment in some ways

Also, credit to Banks. He flubbed a couple of blocks early and towards the end of the game I saw him throwing DBs out of bounds.

DR & his receiving corps are all new playing with each other.

How much easier it would be if DR had a wireless connection to a receiver like Mahomes to Kelce have with each other. Those 2 just know what the other is going to do on most plays.

It takes time and hundreds of reps to get to that point. Hopefully we get a 6th win and some much needed extra bowl practice this year. 😎

What does he need to improve on this. His scrambling yesterday on one play helped since the DBs have their backs to him. What else can the coaches do to improve him in man to man coverage?

I never called him below average. In fact I said he is “very good”. Just pointing out he is young and that we are only a few missed passes from being 7-1

I don't know if its Raiola, Satterfield or the receivers, but over the past 3 games, Banks and Neyor have a combined 9 catches for 133 yards. They were being relied on very heavily to upgrade what was one of the weakest rooms on the team last year and give Raiola some experienced receivers to work with. Getting that level of production from them in the heart of BG10 play is a massive disappointment.

He's throwing to where he believes the receiver will be. The disconnect between receiver and QB needs to be addressed with added reps and more familiarity with the receivers and their speed. I really get tired of jump balls. I want receivers hit in stride.

I thought the same thing - what has happened to Neyor and Banks? I thought those guys would be piling up catches every game. I suspect defenses have taken something away, since we rarely throw downfield any more. At one point yesterday, Raiola was averaging something like 3 yards per completion - with 7 or 8 completions.

Perhaps Raiola showing yesterday that he will run the ball will add a wrinkle that defenses will have to account for.

Raiola makes some nice "touch" throws while on the move, and I'm glad he has that ability. But in my opinion, he's developed a bad habit in which that's ALL he's doing. Would like to see the staff get him back to basics where he stands in the pocket and throws the ball with some velocity.

I realize his receiving corps isn't great, but some of these contested catches they are not making would not be contested if the ball took less time to get there.

Granted Justin Evans is a Soph playing in a crazy stadium of over 100K and the game is on the final drive. But how about the drive doesn't start at 1st and 15 due to the procedure penalty? Satt may have called a run had it been 1st and 10. The first screen was a disaster and a bad call IMHO. But the second looked really good with five blockers in front and was only stuffed due to the instincts of an exceptional linebacker...the kind of athletes OSU gets.

Yes - AM had a better frosh year than Raiola is having. The last 3 games - Raiola has dropped from 75% completion percentage into the high 60s. He’s regressed. Much of that can be attributed to the competition. The overthrows to wide open receivers in the end zone? Very costly in our losses to Illinois and Ohio State.

Game 1 was UTEP. They are bad. Like ranked 150 out of 135 teams kind of bad.

What we’ve seen from DR is that he has both a high floor and a high ceiling. But he’s not a super hero. When he has a poor WR room, poor RB room, poor OL, a crappy OC, and no offensive team identity, it affects his productivity. As those other aspects improve and as he improves himself, things will get drastically better. But only if the offensive coaching becomes less offensive.

This won't be a popular take. But you put DR on a team like Iowa and they would probably be undefeated. Decent oline and good running game. That would allow Raiola to do what he does best. But until Satt is not in the OC room. I don't ever see us having a good running game
