Projected depth chart?

fair to say thats our weakest spot on the team?

I believe so, and its compounded because its arguably the most important spot on the defense to possess a dominant athlete. Its no different than the 4-3 in the sense that a feared pass rusher from the Weak Side changes the way opponents game plan against you.

Because he's so far behind that it might take too long for the light to turn on. HE'S a great athlete, but not a good football player. Sedrick King is a marginal athlete. Guy Thomas could steal the spot by league play.
Thanks for the insight. If Alex is a great athlete one would think they could use him on obvious passing situations where he wouldn't have to read as much but just get after the QB. Or is that even out of the question.

I don't think he will rotate, but I do think he will sub in spots. Wilson will get snaps.
But Gates was talking about running at 3 in the afternoon this summer may help them stop being gassed in the 4th quarters in some games; like last year. What should one think of that comment and how the D coaches like to rotate players? I am not speaking out of any reason other than high respect for your opinion.

I thought that was the point I was making. The kid has been playing football for less than three years so to expect him to contend this quickly says he is really really gifted, that position is low on depth or we just overall are not very good.

With the emergence of Ferguson at DOG LB, giving us even more depth there. I wonder if they will consider moving Newby or Gifford over to CAT to get them both on the field more.

Dont know if they have the requisite skill set. Though something about Gifford makes me think he is going to be a player for us.

My opinion is that he isn't ever going to rotate 10 guys. I think he will have maybe 7 guys. The starting 5, Wilson and Decker. If we are fortunate enough to have a couple of games with lopsided scores we may get a few more some snaps. But I believe a majority of our games will be close, as in 1-15 points. With close games you will see the first 5 out there a ton.

And even that is probably due to more pressure. The argument then, is the back-up talent level warrants it ( true ). IMO, if your backups are 90% as good as your starters, you should spell the starters who could be dropping to 80 or 85% in tough games - bringing them back at 95% plus to pound the D that stayed in vs young enthusiasm. Yes quality depth helps dictate this - thanks for helping clear my head ( no matter my opinion ;).

Will Cav even rotate linemen at all this year?

Based on Cav's comments last year, Wilson, Raridon, and Farniok may not even get to play this year unless the players above them get injured.
No way Foster, Farmer, Knevel and Gates make it through the season with our schedule and avoid injury in some fashion. With this being said, very likely you will see Wilson, Farniok, Raridon or Decker/Barnett get meaningful snaps.

Just found this : On the defensive coaching , N : " and we all rotate very well. We want fresh legs every time, ........ " He's going to make sure the guys that get tired, we'll have the best person out there on the field with the freshest legs out there every time . I like how we got a rotation going, and the depth should be good "......
So I feel this helps recruiting and coaches will adjust in real time during games. If your not rotating on O because some kid hasn't learned the right way to play " patty cake "; that would be disappointing. I do believe we will see more of a committee on o-line discussions / D coaches seem to do it naturally. But just a fan here. GBR

Your quote that you found... who or what is it talking about? I got confused, sorry.

Oline? Dline? D as a whole? The D coaches rotate? The whole team rotates?

D NEAL : On D line.
So feel free to critique the line's lack of game experience, Neal said. Just know that doesn't mean a lack of options for N beyond the established starting unit.

" Whoever they put out there on the field, we know we all trust them them to go out and execute," Neal said. " And we all rotate very well. We want fresh legs every time, and I like how coach Diaco is doing that. He is going to make sure the guys that get tired, we'll have the best person out there on the field with the freshest legs out there every time . I like how we have a rotation going, and the depth should be good ".

So IMO, I am inspired by all these fine words and what they represent about the men and coaches. If you don't get that big men getting pounded on can get tired; I can't believe you ever played ball.

From my experience, it is more physically tiring to play defense line than offensive line. Not that offensive line is a piece of cake but when you know where the play is going and what your assignment is, you are in a more proactive mindset. On defense, you're in a reactive mindset. Your movements are typically keyed on what the offensive line does.

Having a fresh DLine in a 2 gap is even more important because the DLine will face more double teams.

QB - Tanner Lee
2. POB
3. Andrew Bunch
RS - Tristan Gebbia

Sooo... based on Langsdorf's comments today, is Gebbia a 100% lock to be a redshirt?

Lang's comments in the video make me worry less than when I read the words, but still it adds a little worry to a bad situation if Lee gets injured.

Is POB not really pushing TLee after all?

POB is only a red-shirt freshman, so he has plenty of time to improve his game. He better keep pushing himself or Gebbia might pass him next year from the sounds of it.

This is why you have to always consider taking a QB, maybe even two. In two years, Gebbia may be the starter and POB may leave for playing time elsewhere.

I don't worry about POB leaving especially if Lee stays 2 years. By that time he will be a redshirt Jr. He would have to have his degree to transfer without sitting or drop down to FCS. Not many FBS schools are going to give up 2 years of scholarship for 1 year of playing. Especially if the player doesn't have any game tape to look at.

That said, when you watch the video I didn't get the impression it was anything more than coach speak. I believe that was just motivational for Gebbia to keep putting pressure on POB and for POB to keep pressuring Lee.

I believe his quote was the battle for back up QB was "not totally over".

Thanks , Makes perfect sense. Just hoping we use available reps to rotate when not so critical - just think you help morale, best way to jump the football I Q can be some reps here and there; and find your gamers.
