I think if you’re a kid recognized for elite athletic upside at an early age and your family is not financially healthy, I can easily imagine a dad or mom gaslighting the kid to make them loyal and dependent.

Can definitely see that. But I’ve also seen successful young people sideline their deadbeat parents. It’s tough situation to navigate, especially if you have parents who aren’t necessarily “deadbeats” but they also don’t always make the best decisions and/or the best decisions for you.

I read an article about Nico. Walking away toward the end of spring ball was a selfish move but equally stupid at the same time. The net result is that he was lucky UCLA had a spot for him, but he'll be making quite a bit less money. And on top of that, he left a state with no state income tax to go to a state with a high state with a high state income tax. And instead of competing for a national title, he's going to a team that is projected to win 5-6 games even with him. Nice move.
Let's hope we can beat him.

Agreed. Someone on this board said… “Would you tell your dad to fvck off at 20 years old?” My answer is probably not, but my father was a successful smart man with a history of sound decisions. And, more importantly, I didn’t have 2 million dollars in the bank.

If I was independently wealthy at 20 years old and my dad was making erratic poor decisions, I sure as shit would’ve sidelined his ass. 100%
Annnnnd would he have been justified in filing assault charges against you 🤔.

I get this is all in fun but......

Wat? I think I’m missing something here? How does one file assault charges against their millionaire son who wants to control his own finances and professional affairs?

I mean, I suppose you can try to press false charges against your child? But without any evidence it wouldn’t even make it to court. 🤷‍♂️

This is a result of Cal hiring Bryan Harsin as their Offensive Coordinator. Harsin was a total disaster at Auburn and is apparently not very well liked or respected.
When the portal opened, in addition to 5 RB's, their QB is now gone, 5 of their 7 top WR's are gone as well as their top TE.
My daughter’s best friend and roommate was a grad transfer pole vaulter at Cal and she was good friends with multiple players. The football facilities and player support systems were awful. I’m not sure how they get some of the players they do other than by the school’s academic cred. They lived close to the campus for 2 years so we visited there multiple times. I’ve never seen a worse P5 facility.
