Perlman Extending Eichorst's Contract

You two are way underestimating the funds available.

PBA isn't owned by UNL and/or the athletic department. NU Athletics rents out the PBA and isn't on the hook for anything else, two completely different entities.

I realize PBA isn't owned by UNL and it is rented. What I'm saying is that it provides a benefit to the AD and was at least partially paid for with public funds. They wouldn't have access to this facility without the tax payers footing the bill upfront. It is a win/win for both, but you can't say that there are zero tax dollars affiliated with the AD, when it seems that there are some grey areas where they definitely benefit from public funding. As mentioned the CB3 NAPL may be another area where public funding may be a benefit to the AD. Another potential win/win for everyone involved.

I do worry about our funds in the future if we don't become relevant again soon. Will donations, ticket sales, etc. drop if we keep losing?

I also worry about the future of TV revenue with ESPN's recent cuts, in large part due to millions of people cutting cable. It's becoming clear that they have overpaid for TV rights recently, so future contracts may not be so generous.

That is an extreme reach. Nebraska Athletics receives zero tax paying dollars to operate the budget, there, is that better?

Nebraska Athletics is self funded, period.

Yea, I think you are correct in that they don't receive any direct subsidies or payments from the state or local government or from the University. But you keep dealing in absolutes, and I don't know if it is that concrete that "Nebraska Athletics is self funded, period".

From the linked article: "He shares Tom’s vision of merging athletics, academics and the private sector to make a difference in the safety and wellbeing of not only athletes, but all members of society. Dr. Paul’s research acumen and insights into federal funding will be invaluable as we generate a sustainable and relevant collaborative research agenda."

Seems to me that the plan is to receive federal funding for a athletic department sponsored program.

There are multiple reports out there that state it, it's not something I created on my own. Until it's published differently, the rest is just pure speculation and/or hope, for whatever reason(s).

Speculate that a research facility would operate using research grants? I guess if I wanted to, I could probably find a link with a grant award or fellowship to be used in the facility, but it isn't worth the time. The link I provided laid out the plan pretty succinctly. I don't have any agenda here. I think the facility is a great idea and a benefit to UNL as a whole, just like I see PBA as a benefit to UNL and the community as a whole. I just see you always wanting to deal with facts so I was just trying to provide additional input that maybe you weren't aware of, that contradicts the premise that the athletic department is self funded, period.

The athletic department receives zero tax paying dollars, that's a cold hard fact. When that changes, let me know.

Must have changed for Eichorst. His salary is completely paid for by state funding. Not one penny of his salary comes from booster support. If you are curious as to where that data is held it is called the University of Nebraska budget. And if you take three seconds it isn't hard to see that you are wrong. You can look at page 1258 of the UNL Budget and realize that The ADs are all under permanent funding that accounts for over $2 million in taxpayer/state dollars in payroll. Of this $2 million for the 7 positions in this group of employees, half is your ADs salary of .$1,063,224. This of course does not include additional taxpayer funded things like health care/ life insurance contributions/retirement contributions adding another $540K to that above taxpayer funded amount.

If you have data or proof (other than the actual budget for the University of Nebraska at Lincoln shows) that those permanent non-faculty positions paid for by state resources are then refunded by booster donations show it. Otherwise as usual you are wrong and full of it.

The foundational question to ask is HP a good steward of extending contracts in the AD. Answer definitely isn't yes.

Why use the actual budget when you can use web articles dating back to the Bid 12 days?
