Patrick O'Brien to enroll early. Odds he starts next year?

I think it's 50/50. He'll know the playbook pretty well heading into fall camp, and will likely be a huge upgrade in accuracy over Tommy. He'll have to show that his skills make up for Tommy's seniority and leadership.
Pretty much 1%, unless Tommy gets hurt. gbr

I'm surprised at how many people are on the Tommy train. We've seen him for 2 seasons now. Sure, he'll improve, but probably to something like 58%. I'm not sure that's what Mike Riley has in mind long term.

Maybe I'll bump this thread after our first loss... hehe.

First time TA has had an actual QB coach (two if you add in Riley) plus as much as I liked Fish, Williams is a big upgrade as a WR coach which should help as well. TAs comp % would go up quite a bit simply from receivers catchings balls that they should.

Terry Wilson isn't coming. So we can stop that talk now. POB may up end being pretty good. I mean he isn't even on campus yet. Give it a rest
I agree. I don't think Wilson makes it. POB is pretty smart and already out competing him so far.

If Langsdorf can teach Tommy how to put touch on a short pass so we can call those screen passes more often, and he can hit the running back safety valve that all by itself would increase his completion percentage a lot. If the wide receivers get better (looking at you Alonzo Moore) too he'd start to look pretty good.

I don't know how much TA will improve, that keeps me from ranting much. Martinez worked with Steve Calhoun, and it seemed like he increased his completion percentage by 3-5%. But, the offense will be different this year. Huddles, receivers running precision routes versus inaccuracy. I don't know what's going to happen.

Exactly. All of us know exactly squat. That's why I laugh when people start making predictions with conviction on things like how many wins we are going to have, or who is going to be QB next year.

I know it's fun to prognosticate, but I live my life in reality, and reality says that none of us know any more than anyone else on these future events, because we have very little data as support for our opinion. I just sit back and try to enjoy the ride.

So you're saying you're the polar opposite of a guy who would start a thread asking if a kid who hasn't played his senior year of high school will be the starter at a school he isn't even enrolled in yet, next year?

No, I'm saying that I don't waste my time responding to silly time-wasting questions. Oops, I just broke my own rule.

A couple of things:

1. Terry Wilson is going to sign with Nebraska unless Oklahoma.. As in the Sooners.. Make a late push. Oregon will have more competition at the QB spot going forward.

2. If POB or Wilson compete for the starting roles in 2016, that means Nebraska will have a terrible season in 2015. It would need to be collossal tank job in 2015 to unseat a senior QB with 30+ starts going into 2016. You also have to consider year 2 for Armstrong will be better with Riley and Langsdorf. They will give him the benefit of the doubt even if Nebraska has a ho hum season with only 7 or 8 wins. By that merit, aside from injury, Tommy would need to have a disaster type season to get unseated by a Freshman in 2016.

3. Nebraska plays Oregon, @ Ohio State and @ Wisconsin in 2016. No team in college football wants to trot a Freshman behind center with that schedule.

Realistically Tommy improved last year. There is no reason to think he cannot continue moving forward and experience is sooo valuable. Barring injury or complete ineptness on Tommy's part [which i do not expect] there appears a very slim chance especially early in the season. Lets hope we are not in a position of need because a redshirt year can be very valuable down the road for a quarterback.

Lots of good news here. TA has stats similar or better than many good N qb's through their first two years; so with, as stated above coaching; should be a big jump in performance in his current weak spots. What I don't see mentioned enough, is how exceptional he can be in several areas of the game already. If he gets injured or has a bad day; we will be glad the new qb's are around.... I am very happy POB is coming early, it really improves our potential if there is a problem in 2016... If the losses are by multiple interceptions; who would spell him in a melt down? Would have to guess the coaches would experiment?

I'm continually surprised by the lack of perspective in the fan base. How many hot shot freshman have we had over the year, who not only didn't start, but were epic failures?

POB looks to be a good QB get. He's fared well against his peers in 7v7's and camps and all that. He's got the measurables. But very few D1 schools start true frosh QB's because very few true frost QBs are qualified to start. And even fewer schools have a guy who can start as a true frosh and put you in contention for the kind of success NU is seeking.

Is POB a good recruit? Yes. Is he Jameis Winston "ready right now to lead this team to glory", the numbers say no.
