My massage gals always get tipped generously.
Olive Garden has always done that, which I appreciate. I don't mind tipping in that instance. Mind you Olive Garden isn't High End, but I've never had a bad meal there.
My cousin and his wife had food poisoning from shrimp Alfredo the last time we eat dinner there and they sick throwing up..🤮
Needed less to same we had Chicken Alfredo and were just fine.
We haven’t dined there in over a year. Bad memory..
About 10 years ago, I had a couple buddies over to help with Landscaping and Rocking the Backyard. (Last time I have a ton of River Rock dumped in my driveway) Anyways I ordered 4 pizzas from Pizza Hut, 3 different kinds. Gave all of us the Drizzly 💩's for 2 days.
Last time I ever had pizza where there was a coupon for it.
I know, how would you know if some of that didn't end up in the CEO's pocket and go to his new Yacht ⛵ I always decline that!
I'm a sucker for rescue dogs and still don't give a cent @ PetSmart. I'll give to NHS or rescue directly and get a receipt at least.

Who is saying it’s expected? Just because they hand you a receipt or a iPad with a tip option? I never tip that, only dining in.

You have a hard time finding a high schooler to take those jobs in our area. The ones you would want to hire can’t work the hours you need and they always have activity conflicts. I have several friends who have employed lots of high schoolers in their restaurants in the summer but it’s often tough to get them to work when you really need them.

If I have a single dollar, I may throw it down when I pick-up food, but do not feel the need to always do it. The best donut shop in town has a tip jar and when you pay with a card a selection for a tip comes up on the screen. What is the tip for? You bag your own donut. I guess the tip is for making the donut or taking your money. Either way I never tip there. When I eat at a place, I always tip at least 20%. At our club my wife always has me tip more than that because we know the servers. I read online the argument for one tipping restaurant workers so much is because they only get paid a few dollars an hour. Not here in Washington. I bet very few are making as little as $15.00/hr. the state's minimum wage. McDonald's workers are making $18-$20 an hour plus all businesses have to pay into a sick leave account for every employee. One of my friend's mother used to own an alteration shop for clothing. A younger couple bought it from her. Now they have that same method of payment with a card that the donut shop as where there is a screen for a tip. I just laughed when I saw this for the first time. The old owner just shook her head when I told her.
When I was in high school and college all my friends worked. I was a lot boy at a car dealership. My friends worked on farms, grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, retail stores, etc. When we were playing sports we still worked at least on Saturdays. I can't think of one friend, boy or girl, who did not work. I talk to kids now and it seems to me hardly any of them are working. I hear from their parents and the kids that there are no jobs. There are signs all over town asking for help. You mention this to a parent, and they say they don't want their kid working at a fruit packing shed, Safeway or a fast-food restaurant. Where do they want their kid to work? As a Senior Vice President of a company?

I would never tip in a drive through, but I do tip ordering carry out or where you order at a counter. Started doing that during COVID when I was just happy to see places open so thought I would reward them for being open and working.
Tipping is ridiculous for everything.
Ay the dam employees the full wage and move on.
Yeah that’s what’s confusing .. I was in France recently and food was way cheaper and better than most us restaurants and we didn’t have to tip..

Hell even for "American" food like McDonald's in Japan it was FAR cheaper. Wife didn't want buta-don when we had it on the last day and popped into a nearby McDs. $5 lunch special for a Big Mac meal.
And one of the best things for Japanese McDonald's? If you're feeling like a pig? Bai or double everything!. Double big Mac, double filet o fish, double McDouble. And cheap too. Maybe $5 for a double big Mac.
If you do France… rent a car (it’s cheap) and drive to Normandy- go visit Omaha beach .. sobering experience.
Or it’s just the dollar exchange rate at play. Our first trip to Europe cost us half what the second one did a few years later just due to the currency markets.
I’m friends with the Finance Minister of Korea and he says it’s not because of the exchange rate. 🤪

It's not just the exchange rate. Does it help? Yeah. Yen is around 140 yen to dollar. Pretty weak. But even at the "traditional" rate of 100 yen to the dollar, Japan is still cheaper to eat.
I'm guessing Charlie is saying Korea is similar.
Yeah, the dollar has been stronger there the last two times I visited, but even so it's always been fairly cheap to eat there. You can't explain it away by exchange rate, not even close. Also, helps to avoid tourist traps, but that's true anywhere.
What does he think of Cow tipping?

They were beating Iowa 28-0 at the half, then Cow tipping.

He says that cow tipping isn't allowed there. They have very little cattle to begin with. I've been trying to sell him on the idea of importing beef from Nebraska. We will see.

Noodles and bugs? Maybe visit Korea some day before making such a dumb statement. Pro tip: you won’t find Korea in SE Asia.
