OT: Las Vegas

I just got back from Vegas two weeks ago. Serious response: Get tickets to the Sphere. Get seats in the farthest back row you can. DO NOT sit up front and DO NOT sit on the sides. Nobody sits there and the seats will be empty. I saw Postcard from Earth and it was amazing. Whatever show you can see, go see. The outside is amazing, the inside is amazing, and the actual show will be amazing. Go to Mandalay Bay and get a drink at the 1912 bar - push the bookcase in and close it behind you. Most people look at the bookcase and just keep walking. After that, go next door to minus5 bar. Wear the coat and gloves they give you.
Fremont Street is worth going to. I like it better than the strip and it's way more affordable. If you are on the strip, tell the cop hookers to go eff off. Grab their spanking tools and throw them as far as you can if you get the chance. F**k handcuffs as well.

Just went last weekend. Stay at the Venetian, 20th floor or higher. Ask for a room facing the Sphere for some really cool free entertainment as it's literally right behind the hotel. If you want to see a show inside of it, it's attached via enclosed walkway. It's also the prettiest hotel in Vegas. Your wife will love it. It's walking distance to everywhere else. Oh, and get the French toast at the Luxe Cafe for breakfast. You'll think you died and gone to heaven.

The newest properties are a little off from the middle of entertainment areas, but Fountainbleu is awesome inside. Great acoustics in their small theater. Resorts world is nice and has an amazing food court. City center probably is the best location. Try Eataly. Red Rock is nice if you want to avoid crowds.

We ate some great food but the limits were ridiculous at the Blackjack tables and that's about the only game I play when I'm there. IF you could find a $20 limit at a Blackjack table, you could never get a chair. I could afford to bet more than that but I don't enjoy it then.
This just about ruins it for me. I like Blackjack but I would never sit at a high limit table. Call me cheap but $20 is a high limit table to me. I could only imagine sitting down on my first hand... splitting 8's... doubling down on both... then the dealer beats me on both hands. A guy would be down $80 before he'd hardly even sat down.

Imma be straight up honest bout that....my wife wanted to do it because she thought it sounded like a great place to read. I said..."I don't read..." So we compromised, and we cancelled the cabin.

Honest question for everyone: Who goes on vacation for a week JUST to read books?

Thought it might be a double entendre, but then you said you don't "read" (if you know what I mean)-- which I know isn't true.

Those naughty cops have never been a problem for me, but then again I don't act like a virgin and I just ignore them. It's always fun to watch the people who are Vegas virgins because they accept the hooker cards and get scammed into pictures. They do it for a living, they can tell easy marks.

Cosign on Eataly. Definitely go there. It's part of Park MGM.

Love Fontainebleau, I just always tell people to make sure before you're playing any slots to doublecheck the wagering amount. The slots sometimes have the denominations obscured so you think you're playing a 5 credit max bet for $1 and surprise, it's actually a $3 credit machine and you just spun a $15 turn.

Good to hear about Resorts World. I still haven't been there yet actually. They made a big deal when they first opened about not needing locals so I never bothered to go.

On Fremont Street, I really like Whiskey Licker Up as a place to eat. Off strip, Red Rock is great like you said. Durango is cool too though smaller (they're building a 2nd hotel tower, haven't stayed there yet but has a bad ass sportsbook). I also really like South Point Casino (a locals favorite) and if you want a more expensive place - The M Resort and Casino. Silverton Casino gives pretty good perks for locals and has a Bass Pro Shop for those interested. Also a giant ass free aquarium. Won there most of any casinos.

Planning a trip for spring. Havent been there in 30 years. Wifes never been. Suggestions on where to stay?
I just got back last week. I stay at the Elara which is a Hilton time share, but it is attached to Planet Hollywood. I recommend Planet Hollywood as a cheaper alternative & it is middle of the strip easy walk anywhere. I also rent a car & get free parking there. I use the back road like Paradise to get up and down the strip. As mentioned Red Rock is great to visit. Also recommend the Omelette House for a giant 6 egg omelette filled with several things. An attraction I went to is the Arte Museum, quite an experience. Be sure to go to Fremont Street one night for that experience. Also went to the Sphere for Eagles concert, paid an arm & leg (700) for front row 1st balcony seat. It is amazing. It has 167,000 speakers inside, best sound ever & it was worth the $. I also requested a room on the backside of the hotel so you can see the sphere all night if you want.

I go to Vegas every December. Most times I stay on the Strip; sometimes Downtown. Downtown is a little less expensive, and it's easier to find lower table limits (If that is one of your goals). But Downtown is also a little more 'grungy'. It's usually a guys trip for me (my wife has only gone a couple of times) so I don't worry too much about making sure everything is 'high end' - either Downtown or on the Strip.

I like to play poker, and there is only one poker room downtown (Golden Nugget), which is why I'm usually on the Strip. West side of the Strip is noticeably 'nicer' than the East side.

Sportsbooks may be another consideration. If you are going to be there on a football Saturday or Sunday, Circa (downtown) and Westgate (off the Strip but on the Monorail) are awesome places to wager and watch the games.
