I can honestly say that I have never grilled a burger on my own that tasted better than a Big Mac.
That's more an indictment of your cooking skills than an endorsement for their food.

The sad thing is that Domino's is about 10 times better than it once was, and it's still barely edible. It's a race to the bottom in the pizza wars. Not good pizza.

Yeah back in the day it was completely inedible. When Patrick Doyle took over as CEO around 2010 or so, the pizza improved quite a bit but still not to the point where I actually wanted to buy it. There's a Domino's right down the walking trail from my house and I've probably bought three pizzas there in nearly 20 years.Honestly, I tried to like it. It was just cheap pizza. But I just didn't like it no matter how inexpensive it was. I'd rather pay double and have an awesome mom & pop experience.
Are you serious? Mickey Ds is ok but not in my to 5. It's just fast food and cheap. Do you get fresh ground beef or Walmart special? What kinda of seasoning do you use? That all makes a big difference in grilling burgers.I can honestly say that I have never grilled a burger on my own that tasted better than a Big Mac.

not going to argue, we each have different tastes. I would suggest getting fresh ground beef from a butcher shop and just go with salt and pepper. IMO lay off the other ingredientsYes...I am serious
I tend to go with worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, lawry's.
I get all kinds of ground beef from a bunch of different places really.
Oh I do that too...not going to argue, we each have different tastes. I would suggest getting fresh ground beef from a butcher shop and just go with salt and pepper. IMO lay off the other ingredients
What kind of grill do you have?
Hmmm, not sure of the name, gas grill. What kind of grill do you have?
Try a charcoal grill or pellet grill. I have a green mountain, you can see a nice smoke ring in my burgers. Something about charcoal that adds good flavor to burgers or steaks, but the heat is hard to control so I switched to a pellet grillHmmm, not sure of the name, gas grill.
Gas grills often cook burgers too fast. You might try lowering the flame or creating more space between the flame and the burgers. Takes a bit longer, but with better results.Hmmm, not sure of the name, gas grill.
I love the 80/20 as well.Gas grills often cook burgers too fast. You might try lowering the flame or creating more space between the flame and the burgers. Takes a bit longer, but with better results.
The lean/fat ratio also makes a big difference. I like 80/20 hamburger because I think 85 or 90 lacks flavor, and the 73 percent stuff results in a grease fire.
Tastee Inn!
Agree with many choices above. Stella's is good but could use some seasoning. Broncos also good for a fast food chain but the burgers are small.
They all have their ups and downs.
Broncos only has two locations. Not much of a chain. Get the double. Fills you up without weighing you down. Their fries, when fresh out of the fryer, are amazing
Don n Millie's still around? That was my favorite greasy cheeseburger. Double cheese and a strawberry shake.
Agree 100% on those places, tried both left disappointed. (Really wanted to like Stella's too) I'm the same with Pizza places, if they can't get a thin crust, red sauce, pepperoni right. Doubt I'll enjoy anything else they got.Agree on Dinkers...son and I tried them and while I did like them, I did not see what the bid deal was.

A site has Louie M's (Omaha) as a good cheap burger in Nebraska. Where are your good, cheap burger haunts?

Have not been there for about a million years, but when I was a kid the Barrel Bar in Hastings had a pretty good burger. (I hear from friends back in Mecca that it is still good)
Can't believe people are endorsing burgers from chain restaurants. Some are just ok. Back in the late seventies the burgers were great at the original Red Robin in the U District in Seattle, but as a chain they aren't near as good. I prefer privately owned, one location joints.

Well to be fair the thread says cheap. In Omaha you can go get a good burger at a boutique mom and pop place but it won't be cheap.
There's probably some places in the smaller towns that aren't chains and are cheap but I would imagine most of those are dying out if they haven't already been mentioned here.
Myself traveling around the country haven't found the small town options to be significantly cheaper than what you can get in a city the size of Omaha or Des Moines most of the time
Agreed. There are not too many places left that have good food that are cheap. When I was in high school we use to go to Bob's Inn in Mankato, KS for cheap, little burgers that tasted great and good Coors beer (pre expansion). Bob's was teeny tiny. 5 bar stools and three booths. You had to relieve yourself out in the alley. No restrooms.
