OT: Good cheap burger in Nebraska?

That could be!

The sad thing is that Domino's is about 10 times better than it once was, and it's still barely edible.

Honestly, I tried to like it. It was just cheap pizza. But I just didn't like it no matter how inexpensive it was. I'd rather pay double and have an awesome mom & pop experience.

Yeah back in the day it was completely inedible. When Patrick Doyle took over as CEO around 2010 or so, the pizza improved quite a bit but still not to the point where I actually wanted to buy it. There's a Domino's right down the walking trail from my house and I've probably bought three pizzas there in nearly 20 years.

I can honestly say that I have never grilled a burger on my own that tasted better than a Big Mac.
Are you serious? Mickey Ds is ok but not in my to 5. It's just fast food and cheap. Do you get fresh ground beef or Walmart special? What kinda of seasoning do you use? That all makes a big difference in grilling burgers.

Yes...I am serious

I tend to go with worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, lawry's.

I get all kinds of ground beef from a bunch of different places really.

not going to argue, we each have different tastes. I would suggest getting fresh ground beef from a butcher shop and just go with salt and pepper. IMO lay off the other ingredients

Hmmm, not sure of the name, gas grill.
Gas grills often cook burgers too fast. You might try lowering the flame or creating more space between the flame and the burgers. Takes a bit longer, but with better results.

The lean/fat ratio also makes a big difference. I like 80/20 hamburger because I think 85 or 90 lacks flavor, and the 73 percent stuff results in a grease fire.

I love the 80/20 as well.

Agree with many choices above. Stella's is good but could use some seasoning. Broncos also good for a fast food chain but the burgers are small.

They all have their ups and downs.

Broncos only has two locations. Not much of a chain. Get the double. Fills you up without weighing you down. Their fries, when fresh out of the fryer, are amazing

I can eat two doubles :)

They usually end up giving us a whole tray of fries.

Probably the worst I've ever felt I had just moved to DC and had never been to a five guys. Me and a few guys walked across the street to try one and more or less let our testosterone get the best of us trying to outdo one another. I ate two doubles and like a bag and a half of large fries and I thought they would have to carry me back to my desk.

I ran into President Obama one day there as well it was a popular spot.

The best fast food, cheap burger= Broncos
Best chain burger= 5 Guys
Best burger=PO Pears 25+ years ago!

Don n Millie's still around? That was my favorite greasy cheeseburger. Double cheese and a strawberry shake.

Yah there's a few. The one down by the Med center was always a little too greasy for me but the one down by Offutt was ok. They were building one out on like 168th and Maple before I moved back to the East Coast but they didn't finish it before I left.

I'm actually somewhat confused as to what people think is cheap.

Burgers that could be considered cheap really only come in two prices....fast food five to six bucks or a little less fast food eight to ten.

If I'm getting fast food I prefer Runza, Five Guys and Broncos to anything else.

If I want to spend the extra two bucks Stella's is our favorite and the burgers are certainly more extravagant if you want them to be.

I don't feel like there's anyone that offers a truly cheap burger that's readily available and better than those. Cheap as in three or four dollars.

I mean yah there was a time you could roll up to Taco Bell and spend four dollars and get a couple dozen tacos but those days are gone and have been gone quite a long time for burgers. McDonald's generally costs similar to better burger joints unless you really milk dollar menus for stuff.

Agree on Dinkers...son and I tried them and while I did like them, I did not see what the bid deal was.
Agree 100% on those places, tried both left disappointed. (Really wanted to like Stella's too) I'm the same with Pizza places, if they can't get a thin crust, red sauce, pepperoni right. Doubt I'll enjoy anything else they got.

I live down the street from the one on 144 & Harrison. Very good place for cheap eats and they sell Bud Light Platinum, which is kind of like a girl with a so so face and a bangin bod. AKA... Good 'nuff.

A site has Louie M's (Omaha) as a good cheap burger in Nebraska. Where are your good, cheap burger haunts?

Have not been there for about a million years, but when I was a kid the Barrel Bar in Hastings had a pretty good burger. (I hear from friends back in Mecca that it is still good)

Can't believe people are endorsing burgers from chain restaurants. Some are just ok. Back in the late seventies the burgers were great at the original Red Robin in the U District in Seattle, but as a chain they aren't near as good. I prefer privately owned, one location joints.

The best burger I think I ever had was the Husker Burger in Memorial Stadium back in the 80's and 90's. They were grilled in onions as I recall. Anyone else remember those burgers. You could get only under the north part of the east stand stadium.

Well to be fair the thread says cheap. In Omaha you can go get a good burger at a boutique mom and pop place but it won't be cheap.

There's probably some places in the smaller towns that aren't chains and are cheap but I would imagine most of those are dying out if they haven't already been mentioned here.

Myself traveling around the country haven't found the small town options to be significantly cheaper than what you can get in a city the size of Omaha or Des Moines most of the time

Agreed. There are not too many places left that have good food that are cheap. When I was in high school we use to go to Bob's Inn in Mankato, KS for cheap, little burgers that tasted great and good Coors beer (pre expansion). Bob's was teeny tiny. 5 bar stools and three booths. You had to relieve yourself out in the alley. No restrooms.

A red letter date in history to be sure. November 5th, 1955

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to chime in and help out. If you're still looking for good cheap burger spots in Nebraska, I've heard great things about Louie M's in Omaha. They seem to have delicious burgers at affordable prices. Another option that locals seem to love is O'Sullivan's, an Irish bar near me. They serve up tasty burgers that won't break the bank.
