OT: Cell Phones BOGO

I am looking into upgrading my phone (contract is up in April) and I see that Verizon currently has a buy one get one free promotion with the caveat of it being a new line added. I have my parents on my account but was wondering if I convince one of them to cancel their cell phone (they aren't under contract) for a day if I can turn back around and have them be the new line to get the free phone. Worst case is they wouldn't be able to keep their current phone number. Thoughts?

If you don't have to have the latest model, lots of times you can get the old model for a penny or $1 with a 2-year contract extension. Still new to you. That's the route I would go.

I'm not looking to get into another contract to get a reduced price phone. The ones they are already offering for the penny or dollar I already I have. Looking at getting an S7 for me and my dad, just trying to get one for free instead of full retail.

Surprising that some people still don't get the fact "free" phones aren't free. You are in effect financing the phone over a contract period.

I don't have any experience with it, but I can't see how they could prevent you from doing what you mentioned. If you cancel a line, regardless of who is opening that new line, it's still a new line.

I'd rather pay for the phone and use straight talk. $45/month and the phone works pretty much everywhere in the continental US makes up for pretty much everything else.
