OSU option + power running game on full display right now

Is that why Ohio State beat Bama a few years ago with the SAME scheme as this years team, Damon? They had better players a few years ago, but 2017 might be the year they challenge again.

I am guessing that it hurt OSU pretty bad when they lost Tom Herman and replaced him with Beck.

I actually liked Beck's offense for the most part when he was here.

Being that Ohio State had only lost two games in 2015-2016 before tonight's debacle, I'd say Herman's loss was marginal to them. He might have helped in this evenings game as they got humiliated.

Will be interesting to see how Herman does at Texas, the Longhorns might be that volcano that's about to erupt in a few years if he can turn it around there. I hope not.

Smh @ the OP.. He wants power football to fail so much it's sickening. Same Team that put up 62 on our soft defense and pushed around our even softer WCO up front.. Power beat power tonight and OSU offense is nothing like Osborne's..

cardale made a big difference vs bama. he could stretch the field vertically which jt cannot do. pretty limited otherwise which was exposed last year when he struggled against terrible teams like hawaii and was eventually benched. osu OL was much better the last couple years than this version.

With the way Elliot was running on Bama any QB on their roster could've made as much of an impact as Jones did. Jones had a couple of good runs in that game which was surprising for how big he was but the more mobile guys would have had a heyday with that sort of running room. I'd agree that he was more of a vertical threat but when your back is pouring over 200 rushing yards on to the defense you tend to have room in the passing game.

LOADED with all the 4-star and 5-star recruits you can handle.

9 yards rushing at the half.

This is what some Husker fans want us to go back to. Ringing in the new year with eight in the box and an opponent with a month to prepare.

Now I'll go sit back and sweat out the second half so this doesn't blow up in my face. :)
The same OSU offense that didn't punt once against the Blackshirts? Probably not a good team/offense to bag on considering what happened a few months ago.

Either JT regressed or the offense execution was largely poor this year (with some exceptions like the Nebraska game). If that is coaching or .lack of players....dunno - Clemson was well drilled on OSU's base offense and had all the answers last night

I'm sure youth played a role in that game. I think it was Phil Steele who had an experience chart that had Ohio State at the very bottom of the list which is scary because in a few years they'll have an extremely experienced football team.

These geniuses on here can't figure out Jones made them balanced. Alabama would have ate them alive with JT behind center and being one dimensional.

lol, the dudes biggest pass play came when a Bama defender fell to the ground and left the OSU WR wide open for a TD, other than that his Joe Montana skills were mediocre at best. The only reason he had anything open for his monstrous 240 yard passing game was due to Zeke slashing the Bama D. Classic football, run the ball well and you open up the passing lanes.

That and Ohio State easily had the best offensive line at the end of the season.

I don't think many truly understand what 8 in a box on D does to an offense. I stand with you

Some "geniuses" just can't see that, 44. Before his injury, Barrett had a 170qb rating and was a superior runner to Jones. He would have more than been able to handle the situation against Alabama in that semi final game.

Just as a mentioned in an earlier post about a couple of runs Jones had in that game which were decent runs, put Barrett in on that play instead and you have BIG yards. Jones was a serviceable enough QB to make it work but he certainly wasn't the reason for their success, Elliot and the offensive line was. They lost early that season to VT but once everything came together on the offensive line they never looked back.

His 50% arm in that game was FAR from the reason for their success in it.

Yep. And I'll give Jones tons of credit, he came off the bench after Barrett's injury and played well, I liked his game so to speak. But for some to say that Barrett, who was tearing it up as the year went on, all of a sudden was just going to get owned and have a crappy game, is just ridiculous.

Barrett before he got hurt during their NC run was a very dynamic runner, doesnt look as fast or elusive now. We'll probably never know, but I bet his forty time isnt the same. He certainly looks like he's lost a step.

The OSU Oline of '14 and '15 was truly "elite". There's no doubt in my mind that a healthy Barrett running behind that line would have dominated Alabama even more. This current edition of Oline is a joke compared to them. I'm willimg to bet if you ask OSU fans they would tell you that NC line was one of their best ever.
