Whittingham had to compete in the PAC with a Mountain West team the last few years. Now that he has had a chance to recruit for the Pac-12, his team looks pretty darn good.

He's had an undefeated season and won 2 BCS bowls. If Riley had done that in his career, he'd probably get a little more leeway from fans here.
Utah was able to compete with BCS teams while he was in the MWC. In fact...they beat Bama. If what you say is true I don't see people bringing up how Riley had to take over a program with 27 straight losing seasons. They still use his PAC record as a knock on him despite knowing full well Oregon St is not a good job compared to his competitors. So what you are saying Whittingham needed time to recruit and get some of his own PAC talent on the team? Interesting. Sorry, you know as well as I do people would have bitched if we hired Whittingham. No doubt about it. His PAC record would have been the first thing brought up.

You're leaving out that it was Dennis Erickson who actually ended the streak of losing seasons and was 11-1 in his second year, a mark that Riley never could equal.

I never said otherwise. Where did I say Riley ended Oregon States losing streak? I stated Riley took over a program with 27 straight losing seasons. Did he not? I think that was a reading comprehension fail on your part. Also, I'm sure Ericksons success after Riley left had zero to do with Riley bringing in talent.

Considering Erickson got a lot of JUCOs that is likely correct

Well actually he never. It was a 26 year losing streak and he added 2 more years taking it to 28. Erickson had winning seasons 3 out of 4 years.
One could also argue Riley did very well with Erickson's recruits as well.

He never what? Actually, I don't think one would make that argument considering Rileys best run was 4 years after Erickson left Oregon St. Maybe you can make the argument he should have won more when he came back to OSU. But I don't know enough about their roster at that time to comment on that.

Well Riley pretty much has a MAC team playing in the Big right now. Let's see how he does in a few years with his recruits...

That's ridiculous. Injuries or not, we have equal or more talent than any team in our division. Much of Iowa's defense is players that Bo passed up on. NW, Minn, Ill are full of 2 and low 3-star recruits with few major offers. If Riley is the coaching genius many believe he is, anything less than winning the division should be a disappointment this year.

Gary Patterson is another coach who struggled his first few years in a major conference, and now has his program rolling again. Riley was losing to FCS teams at home in his 11th and 13th years in the Pac-12, and lost 12 of his last 14 conference games before we hired him.

So why did Eichorst hire him ? Who gave him the idea to hire Riley... Was it Alvarez?

TJ Houshmandzadeh and Chad Johnson say hi back. I know they didn't have as illustrious of careers as Ken Simonton for RiLLey worshipers though.
Huh? I didn't say it was a depth chart full of Riley recruits did I? You are the one who said Riley's recruits likely had zero to do with Erickson's success. So again, Simonton says hi! No worries...you were wrong. It happens.

He lost to a damned good Eastern Washington team whose QB transferred and is started for Oregon even after breaking a finger on his throwing hand. OSU wasn't the only D-1 team to struggle with Eastern Washington but that is IRRELEVANT to this situation. Arkansas got beat by a patsie and then turned around and played much better yesterday. Crap happens and the difference between the haves and have nots isn't nearly s great as it used to be.

Losing 12 out of his last 14 games in the Pac 12 isn't a reason to hire the next Head Coach at Nebraska is what I'm saying especially when he didn't win anything of significance at Oregon St.

I'm behind Riley I'm questioning Eichorst search for a new Head Coach.

You know....
I missed something here in Lincoln on the local FM radio sports show....
Recently the afternoon host was talking about how in his next segment,
he was going to discuss something about how Riley was ready to leave Oregon St and 'reached out'
to both Nebraska and Florida for their HC openings ( or soon to be openings). Quite different from the story we were told on how Riley was hired.
I never got to hear the segment.... either I was working, or they decided to dump that segment at the last moment. Either way I could never find any information to back up this little tid-bit. But it definitely was something that got my attention and did not forget.

But there is a Wild Card in this whole situation....
Harvey Pearlman is stepping down.
Chew on that for a minute.
What will that mean for the A.D. / coaches?
Sure, nobody what's to pay even more contracts off...
But there is a Wild Card coming in the near future.
Warning: more drama is coming!

Interesting: a Wild card ... Little nervous over this Warning what the hell this could be.
But I Would like to know the story why Riley was the only choice, this is still a head scratcher.

Sorry
Reading a bad spy novel at the same time. Winking
The more I think about it,
the radio guy was going off a story from Gainsville.
Which makes sense, since Florida was the other school mentioned.
