Opinions on the late hit penalty?

Not all situations are the same. In no way is that his "logic".
So just use slow motion for some reviews, but others need to be reviewed at game speed?

Good God. You’d make a great B1G official. They’re hiring so submit this transcript as part of your application

The call was officiated properly by the rules. Raiola needs to get in shape, he's too fat and slow right now. If he could get to 15% body fat (he looks to be around 30%ish right now) he could be a lot better. Look at the playoff qb's. Almost all are somewhat mobile.

Dana already called him fat and is gonna get him in shape. I don’t mind my qb being a bit chubby to help protect him.. maybe 17-20ish body fat

I miss the days when we had QBs like the Martinez bros, or HH or Simms or Purdy who would just awkwardly slow down, stand straight up into contact, and get the ball stripped, or just drop it all together.
Taylor Martinez had to be the absolute toughest QB to ever lace em up.

Dude was so fast, but had zero ability to limit contact.

I've never seen a player before -- or since -- take the physical beating that guy took game in and out.

Good call, bad rule.

As many bad calls that have gone against Nebraska or penalties that weren’t called in Nebraska’s favor, this one shouldn’t bother anyone.

The vast majority of Iowa fans are more concerned with Nebraska football than Iowa football. Most Iowa fans, including @SWIowahawks exhibit true little brother behavior. Can’t say I blame them, they hate the fact that most husker fans watched Nebraska at the highest level winning NCs while playing in a superior conference (Big8/12).

so many brutal hits, and never sacks, just on the run, when he saw the contact coming it was like he forgot how to be a human and just froze like a deer

I am also not seeing it as a dirty play. IF the defender believes Raiola is staying on his feet and is a ball carrier, he dropped his pad level and went in to take his legs out, the same as 30 other tackles in the game where the defender didn't stick his arms out to wrap up the ball carrier.
I agree. The defender was aiming at Raiola's legs/mid section. It didn't look dirty, just a quick play.

Crouch used to take some vicious hits as well. He actually knew how to avoid contact, but man if you watch some of those games it is amazing Crouch got back up after getting the pitch off.

Looked to me like DR slid late on purpose

We’d all have been in BOB’s shoes if that call went against us

The QB protection stuff has become a sort of epidemic in high-level football. I’m not sure how it’s legislated out of the game.

Bc most will get blown up before they can slide. He slid at the perfect time. Defender could have let up… he didn’t and was penalized
AND he gave that head dip at Dr. Yes it was a late slide and the defender couldn't stop. BUT he could have shot higher. He tucked his head trying to connect

Bad call. I always look at these things as if it had happened to our players, and if that was called against our defense, I would have been pissed.

This is exactly how I look at it. If guess 90% of the guys saying it was a good call would change that opinion if it had been the other way.

I’m sure that is true. Part of being a fan. But that call did not alter the outcome of the game what so ever. And we have had way more than our share of calls going against us. Literally game changing calls. It was still a bang bang play that everyone gets the benefit of watching the replay slowed down except officials.

I never said anything about using / not using slow motion for officials to use while reviewing plays.

The point is when it comes to hits like we saw on DR, when ran in real time it shows the situation isn't as black & white as some like to make it out to be.

Also, I was pointing out that you were misrepresenting @huskerfan1414 's logic. Like you were mine just now.

It was if he wasn’t anticipating a slide.
So if he wasn't anticipating a slide then he went for his shins, but if he was anticipating a slide then he didn't go for his shins?

What he went for is what he went for. Replay doesn't show a shin level tackle. Regardless of what he did / didn't anticipate.

Mizzou’s QB just slid way later than DR did, got hit, and got a penalty.

But since the announcers didn’t make an issue of it and since they probably don’t have a self-loathing fan base, it will be a nothing burger.
Why are you considering a self-loathing fan if you don't think it's a penalty?

Is it really part of being a fan tho? I'm a fan but a bad call is a bad call to me. It was bad on them and imo it was bad for us. I don't separate it because it worked in our favor it just was what it was.

As far as it matter of changing outcome or any of that I never engaged in any of that talk. I just think his late slide contributed to him getting hit and them getting penalized.

It's the rule and it is what it is . Bad rule.

It is a penalty. Just like the play today was called. Bad rule definitely. Penalty? Yes
That's where we're disagreeing. In my opinion, I don't even think it's a penalty even per the rules.

There's a level of judgment the refs have if a runner slides late to where the D won't get called for a penalty.
