Opinions on the late hit penalty?

You said he was in mid- air. Meaning by laws of physics he couldn’t have possibly changed his trajectory. I believe Newton’s first law says a douchebag in motion will remain in said motion unless acted upon by an external force..

Unfortunately for you this all quickly implodes because he wasn’t in mid-air. He could up let up.. he went with the hit and like your credibility.. was penalized
I guess I'm using poor choice of words.

Fine, not mid-air, but in a position where he couldn't change his trajectory (avoid DR). And I believe he made his tackling move before DR made his sliding move.

Super close, but that's what I'm seeing.

My opinion is if people don’t like the rule they should petition to change it.
He was sliding and got hit
Should not have been controversial
Gets called on us 100% of the time If we do the same thing
The announcers made up their own interpretation and convinced a lot of viewers it was a bad call
A lot of other people also said it is a "bad call" because they don't like the game becoming soft but that is a different issue entirely

Curious to what some of you think about the unsportsmanlike conduct flag being picked up a few plays later
It was a flag that was picked up because the refs realized we had not converted a first down on the play. If we had converted, the unsportsmanlike call would have stood.

Too many things are already reviewable. Seemed like they were constantly stopping the game for one thing or another.
Oh I’d like to see the review process get streamlined and have a likely shorter list of plays for review. I think the slide needs to be one because it is being used more and more to draw the flag and get 15 yards than not.

If there is one thing I hope DR learns and emulates Mahomes is the ability to extend plays and take the hidden yards given to him. Mahomes excels at extending drives.
Raiola has to use his legs like he did at the end of the game. He’s as big as some linebackers. He could be a punishing runner.

It was embarrassing how he hopped up and threw a fuss. Not a penalty.
If you look at full speed it appears that the defender wasn’t going for a tackle he was trying to put dr out, sorts lead with his forearm. Dylan made that comment in the post game press conference. That’s why he got up aggressively

Reactions: headcard
My thoughts are Banks caught a big pass in the second half where he was being blatantly held. No flag. On the same play we got flagged for barely touching a BC player in the face. So instead of us gaining 15 or 20 yards, or offsetting penalties getting called and replay the down, we get a 15 yard penalty. So I don't give a crap about the late hit call.

People seem to not realize #28 from BC was head hunting. It was a bang bang play. Was DR late on the slide? Sure but the issue on that play is #28 squaring up at full speed, torpedoing and going after DR.

It was a dick move. I know because I did it when I played strong safety in college. But I played in the late 80s and early 90s. Different world back in the day.
They are probably taking counseling to cure their white guilt as well
what do you mean you people?

And? Whats he supposed to do, play tag? Is football a violent sport anymore?

Really? Does the rule state that when a defender already goes in motion for the tackle and THEN the QB slides - it’s a penalty. I doubt that. It as a bad call and Dylan shouldn’t have stood up and raised a fuss - he instigated the contact that pissed him off.

Nebraska has had PLENTY of bad calls against them this year. That was a bad call in Nebraska’s favor.
Loved the “fuss”. Was great to see some fire.

But why? . He was going for the hit and lowered it before dylan slid. Should he reach for his flags instead? This is football. Again Im not sure we”re appreciating how fast these things happen.
I am also not seeing it as a dirty play. IF the defender believes Raiola is staying on his feet and is a ball carrier, he dropped his pad level and went in to take his legs out, the same as 30 other tackles in the game where the defender didn't stick his arms out to wrap up the ball carrier.

Even with Raiola sliding, the defender hit him below the shoulders, Raiola's shoulder pad level dropped probably 18 inches or more, so there is no way to look at that play and determine he was head hunting.

I can see it being called a penalty, I just don't think there was the malicious intent that some are claiming.

I'm good with no penalty as long as raiola made the first down and is not injured.
if he did'nt get the first down then it's probably best to throw the flag

It is what it is, we every team has been on both sides of it. I disagree with the claim the defender was already committed and couldn’t do anything else, he went down to get Raiola.
That is exactly right! He was going down to get DR. If he supposedly was already starting his tackle BEFORE DR started his slide, wouldn’t he have been more upright and maybe went over him? He saw DR going down and aimed accordingly.

He was trying to shoulder Dylan’s shin? The only way you’d be that low with your shoulder going in with no arms was with anticipation that the player was going down. The hit would make no sense otherwise.

If it’s so obvious why do they have to use slow motion replay? Full speed indicates it was impossible for the defender. Husker fans would rightly be livid if we were called for the same play. Didnt matter, we had the first down anyway.
Lol so you’re against slow motion replay for verifying if a player was in bounds or not. Solid logic there 🤣🤣

Or, he went to take out his legs?

I honestly think as a defender in that situation, he knew there could be a chance DR would slide. So he tackled in a way that would keep DR from gaining more yards (if DR didn't slide) and be safe from a targeting penalty in case DR did slide.
