Davie played terrible. Most of the others were pretty bad too.
No he didn't, and the fact Nothin Kevin liked your post showcases the error in your perspective.
I think a lot of you guys need to go back and rewatch the game, maybe a few times.
Davie played a good game. His biggest flaw is his lack of ball skills. He's good in coverage, but gets beat in jump ball situations or loses strength matchups despite being a big tall kid.
Most of BYUs success came vs. Nickel looks with Gifford and Aaron Williams out in coverage. They killed the Huskers with underneath pick plays while Aaron and Gifford were caught with their heads in the backfield. Cockrell was brutally beaten on a Go route on BYUs first scoring drive. That play was by design as Hill faked a QB draw. Cockrel, mistakenly bought the fake for a half second and was blown away.
The biggest issue for Nebraska was not Davie or Kalu. It was not even Aaron Williams or Gifford.
It was the defensive line continually losing contain and chasing QBs all over the backfield while receivers were allowed to improvise. Even NFL secondaries will get lit up in that scenario.
Those suspensions hurt man.
If Jon Rose is on the field in Nickel, it allows Kalu to slide over onto the Slot. Cockrell can thing move back to Strong Side safety to not be overmatched in run support or vs. A tight end.
Mike Rose- Ivey, in non nickel allows Cockrell to go high while Dedrick Young blankets the 4th option. Rose - Ivey then joins Banderas for a blitz party which also frees up an interior linemen from double teaming Maliek or Vince.
And yet after all that, BYU, with their best offense ever, needed a miracle with no time left to beat the Huskers.
