Official - Frost back in 2022 with restructured contract

This is probably the best thing considering alternatives. Cannot keep firing coaches. Frost would be the fifth one in less than 20 years. Not a good record when trying to hire a new coach.
When Nebraska went through its last "dark ages" from 1941-1961, they cycled through 7 coaches in that time...including a couple native son former players. That was during a time when the athletic department was almost broke in the post WWII years. You absolutely can, and should, keep firing coaches until you find "the guy". Frost is not cut from that cloth.

The powers that be have spoken. Many of us detailed many reasons why this HC should have been sent packing, but we have been nullified by the statement by Trev.

Since none of us know the actual details, about all we can do is continue to bitch, point out areas that are obvious, and wait for another year.

I was a NU fan long before Trev and Frost, and I will continue to be a fan. As it appears that "winning" is secondary, the onus will be on Frost to show either he can get the job done, or we can replay this charade again next year.

Do I have any confidence that Frost will make it happen? Of course not. He runs a loose ship, a non-accountable operation, and is a firm believer in playing those he likes, rather than those who have earned the right to start.

(Pardon me while I whine a bit more). Nebraska football has been a total suck ass proposition for over a decade, apparently, one more year won't make any difference. I've never been involved in any corporation or business that readily accepts failure and then continues to reward the "point man" with more time to prove him/herself.

Frost better thank his lucky stars, because in the REAL world of business, his ass should have been sent packing. The recruiting class will match up well with the OSU and MICH recruits.

If Frost retains Austin, Verduzco, and Dawson as the ST coach, then this entire program is a big FU to fans that are committed to winning.
Yep. this off-season I can actually sit around in peace knowing that if he fails againt to win, there is no debate if he should be fired or not. Even the national media is saying that after this news brook today. It's a very calming feeling. This season was incredibly stressful and we all know, as you pointed out too, any other name and he would already be fired.

Now we just wait and see how things go next season and if it's another season of losses, he is gone but the football program will live on.

From a staff and player perspective, I'm not going to expect anything that is done will make anything better.

We know how this will play out...some changes will be made to claim changes were made, then lose to Northwestern and it goes from there.
Your prognostication hasn't exactly been on point.

Frost should stay.
We are close.
Frost is gone without a doubt.
OU will destroy Neb.
OSU will make Neb look silly.

But keep throwing stuff out there. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once and a while.

use the saved money to buy some players now that they can earn money.....bring in some 4-5 star transfers that with the endorsement deals......time to funnel the big money floating around (save 20 million not buy out SF contract) to buy the best assistant coaches and players we can get....ALL IN MODE

Did Trev bend Scott over a barrel with the NCAA investigation? Restructured contract obviously means lower buyout. Would love to see what the details of said deal is.

Absolutely unbelievable. We have turned into the biggest joke in College Football and are asking for more.

The entire AD needs purged. This is fvcking sickening.
Relax man. Trev got us out of that terrible Moos contract. I consider that a win today. If it would have been the ame contract, then there would be a lot of angry people. New contract = less money to spend to fire him if he losses again and that saved money can be spent hiring a damn good staff after 2022.

We are so screwed! Dam , why should I care anymore if the Univ doesn't give a shit about winning anymore.
Just because it's not your way doesn't mean it's not right. I'll trust TA since he's a bit closer to the program than you or any others here on this board. Where has all the firing in the past gotten us? Half the people here look back and claim, "we should have kept so-and-so". Hell, why not submit your resume since you have the answers.

He had to announce something to the recruits as soon as possible. At the same time it's still going to be a tough sell that Frost will be around after next year. I'm guessing that there is something in the contract that they at least need to get to .500 for Frost to keep his job. Otherwise this would be insane.

Man your Trev love is crazy. Already starting that Trev cult?

You're salty tears are delicious! Keep crying anti-Froster's!!!
Nobody is an anti froster dumb dumb… everybody wants Nebraska to succeed in all things football with Frost obviously. But call a spade a spade 3-5 wins season are unacceptable. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to comprehend.

Y'all chill. Frost will keep the ship afloat while the new facilities finish up. Then he either breaks through and we're all happy, or he doesn't break through and is canned (at a MUCH cheaper price for NU) and we wipe the slate clean with a new coaching staff with lots to sell recruits on for a promising future and more cash under the mattress. It's a win-win.
This is the rational way to look at it. I don't expect it to go over well on here though.

it's really not that hard to figure out is it? if you were running a real business this would have never happened. without a real qb, next year will just be more of the same. you might call this socialist football.

And I'm sure, you and I and many others will be on Frost's ass from Day 1, as we should be.

I'm just a peon, but I'm not cutting the dude any slack. $ 5 million a year says there MUST be results. This "we're close" or moral victory crap doesn't fly with me and I'm sure others feel the same. A great coach can and will turn those close losses (not all) into wins.

I think the whole season next year depends on IF and HOW MANY changes are made on this coaching staff. A real OC and a real OL coach, a real QB coach, and a real ST coach are in desperate need.

This offense continues to go backwards each year, has ZERO identity, and defenses have shown they can slow them down after they move from to 20 to the 20 yard line. Throw out Ford, Buff, and Northwestern and look at what the offensive numbers show.

Chip Kelly at UCLA has an almost identical W/L record as SF, and Chip even plays in a weaker conference, and HE is proven as a head coach at the Power 5 level, yet he can't get it done in a hugely populated recruiting area.

We are now 3 weeks away from the end of the season. It will interesting to see how many current players hit the portal. With the loss of the Super Seniors and the weak recruiting class coming in, this staff is up against it if they strike out in the transfer portal.

I think it's great. We get another year or two of every week being "Frost's biggest game of his career" and weekly "we're going to learn a lot about what this team is made of this week."

Well at least we know Nebraska's Athletic Department & Boosters are not interested in winning so now I wont have to spend my money on something that has already been pre-determined to fail. Win for my budget.
Feel the exact same way. Wont be rocking any husker gear, wont be going to a game, wont be watching or listening to any games. I am done.

So pull up a seat kids. I wasn't expecting this.

Let's talk about what this means then I'll take a step back.

We had sent out feelers. We had gotten some nibbles. I know this.

What happened between then and now I don't know. But this isn't something to celebrate. This tells us a lot.

It tells us that of the candidates Trev went for, and he did go for them, none wanted the job. It means that the reality of where this program stands compared to other programs is a gut punch of reality.

I hope against all odds that Frost wins more than 7 next year. I feel 7 is nothing to be excited about with next year's schedule.

I commend Trev for talking Frost into a restructured contract. I assume he did a "My way or the high way" speech and good for him. Good for Frost for turning down millions upon millions and agreeing to it. I will wait and see the contract to judge though.

But this isn't good.

I like the idea that Frost will stay at Nebraska! Did not want Nebraska getting Bob Stoops! From what I have been hearing is that Stoops is itching to get back into coaching again which give Iowa a chance to hire him. Ferentz can't coach for ever! Good luck with you new, old coach! In my opinion, Nebraska may piss pound Iowa this year! Your defense is much improved but your offense screws the pooch! At least you have an offense that can move the ball!
