NU baseball enters the postseason on a roll

7th in RPI behind conf USA and the American athletic conference. It's bad
Out of how many conferences? This is a multi bid league now. I don't think anybody would have guess that years ago. Every single team in the Big Ten tournament has a top 100 RPI.

you are correct we are rated just ahead of the big west, sun belt, missouri valley, west coast and southland conferences, we should hold a parade
1 thru 4 are all power 5 conferences and then the BIG comes in at 7
what's worse is we used to compete in a real baseball conference and now are also-rans in a crappy baseball conference

Can't argue that. Tough to hear.

It's been painfully obvious for a while that Erstad isn't working out. I don't care either way if he stays or goes, not a big NU baseball guy at all, but I do like to see our sports do well of course. I think, barring a miracle run through the losers bracket, NU should suggest he move on. Also, no more hires from TO. Yikes he's been bad at that stuff.

Thank goodness Erstad's coaching philosophy works to have his team playing well at the end of the season, otherwise we might be in trouble in the B1G tourney. Losing the first game with a total of 3 hits and starting this game with no hits through 3 innings is part of his diabolical scheme to win it all through the loser's bracket.

Cliff's Notes version this short baseball thread: We're on a roll and should make the final. We are awful and Erstad needs to go.

They key word being SHOULD. But you just never really know with an Erstad coached team. We have three innings to figure it out or we are about to go back to back years going 0-2 in the Big Ten tournament. Need some runs

2 and Q and the first team eliminated, in front of a home crowd...all in less than 24 hours. Has to go down as one of the bigger choke jobs in Husker baseball history. Way to get your fking team ready, Erstad.

If we don't make a regional, it's time to clean house.

Nice day at the ball park for another lackluster performance 3 hits 2 errors.

Positive note we get to sit around and find out till Monday if we sneak in the NCAA tournament. o_O

I was worried about weather being an issue this week now I dont care if the rest of the tourney is rained out

Can anybody say they are really surprised? If there's one thing Erstad coached teams know how to do it's disappoint when they seem to have everything going for them. We've seen this before and we will see it again as long as he is coaching here,

It's amazing we have found a way to go 0-2 in the Big 10 tournament in back to back years with Erstads coaching style designed to make his team better as the year goes on. Laughing

Five years in...ZERO Big 10 regular season titles...ZERO Big 10 tournament titles. Should Erstad tweak his coaching style Hammer?

Hopefully our name gets called Monday...and we can find a way to win a regional for once.

Maybe we'll get lucky and play Binghamton again.

Gotta love the rest of the B1G conference playing baseball for the next 4 days in Omaha, while the home state team tries to figure out how they managed 6 hits and 4 errors in 2 games. Well done.

Hammer, looks like your assessment of Erstad's philosophy was spot-on. RollingLaugh

For those above talking about how bad the B1G is-the conference was 16th in RPI the year before we joined the conference. It is now 7th. The conference has improved tremendously since we joined. It doesn't excuse at all how we haven't been able to win a championship, but people running down the conference as weak need to know what they are talking about.

you are correct ... there has been improvement
the conference has gone from terrible to bad ... next step is solidly below average
lets stop polishing a pig, given the relative size and resources of the schools in the conference, the quality of baseball is bad

The B1G is the highest ranked conference completely made up of northern schools. I really don't think you can expect things to be much better than they are now. That's the nature of northern schools.

No argument there. But that doesn't change the fact that the baseball is bad. Being made up of northern schools is why the baseball is bad.

Well, the northern schools could break off and form their own division like Minnesota coach John Anderson suggested a few years ago...

Still think they should start the season later than they do, but the southern schools will never allow that to happen.

Again, a conference that may get 3-4 bids is not bad. You need to stop thinking with your basketball/football brain. Mid Major teams in those sports has some damn good baseball programs. I don't think anyone would argue teams like Purdue and Minnesota should be better than the Rice's, Fullerton, and the Tulanes of the baseball world. As long as the Big 10 continues to be a multi bid league thats great progress. Coming in to the conference, it was thought that we would need to win the Big 10 tournament to reach a regional. Thankfully, thats not the case as evident of Erstads inability to win anything of note.

Sure shows just how much Scott means to the offense. Hopefully he recovers enough to help out in the Regional.

Bull. What even if he managed to homer in all of our hits, they would still be barely tied games. He wouldn't have changed that. 6 hits in 2 games is pathetic. These 2 pitchers were not even on par with middle of the road regional pitchers.
