And I trust they will roll up their sleeves and recover well.
Anyone can evaluate Darnay Holmes as a future star. But there are many dozens of high school seniors right now all over the U.S. who someday will play in the NFL and currently are uncommitted or committed to a program that's not at our level. Let's go find those guys and get them over these next few weeks.
I personally think this Thompson kid (the uncommitted WR from Boise State) is exactly the kind of kid we need to romance and acquire. He's a little skinny, but his lean body type and raw athleticism suggests he can be DEVELOPED into a star.
We don't talk about the development piece enough. We all want ready-made stars like Darnay. Myself included. But our reality is that we have a much better chance to get raw, lean-bodied, baby-faced kids who, through our facilities, S&C and coaching, can BECOME stars in a couple of years.
Today really sucked. But adversity reveals strength and character, and the reactions of many on this board were really disappointing. But if I have as good a handle on Riley as I think I do, he and his staff are digging deep into hudl tape as I type this, looking for the next 10 or so future Huskers.
I'll close with a prediction (and I hope this is archived): At least 3 players who are NOT current commits will eventually end up being starters and among the best players in this class.
