Not that I know anything, but 1) No plan to rotate anyone into the OL. Are we really that thin, that there is no rotation at all? or is he just trying to max the reps of the starters before conference maybe? 2) Plans to narrow the RB rotation to Newby, Cross & Wilbon. Really sorry to hear that Taylor is off the board, but maybe there is some good reason. Would like to know what it is. 3) Wants to make sure Tommy doesn't get beat up running. OK, but we've had smaller QBs who did a whole lot of running, I think, I'd say we need to run the plays with the best chance of success and trust that he's durable. All IMHO.

I realize the Huskers are hosed without Armstrong, but I think he's every bit as likely to get hurt being miscast as a pocket passer as he is on designed running plays.

Can't say I'm surprised by any of the 3.

The OL designated 5 is Cav's call. Not sure why we can't see the second team now and then.

The only thing that really comes to my mind, is that they have to build a unit. With so little experience under their belts, to make the top 5 decently solid this year, they are going to need all the snaps they can get between now and conference play.

Its win now vs build for later. Its obvious folks want to win now, although we're not going to light anyone's world on fire whether we play 5 or 10 OL, we still have a shot at a pretty good season if that top unit gels.

Wilbon mentioned in his expose that he was confident, but really all he knew that he was going to play was some designed screen plays.

If RB is a rhythm position, then you can have a committee, but the committee has to be decently sized. If you play 5 backs and throw screens to WR and jet sweep and so forth, no one is really going to get a feel for the game. I'm fine with the 3 mentioned unless Taylor is just lighting it up and we're dog housing him. But that doesn't seem to be the case from media reports.

Well, when you watch football on Saturdays, most talking heads will say its amazing that a guy can be a runner and a passer, brings so much versatility to the game. But they typically share some angst that you have to be smart about the running portion, most teams can't lose the top QB for no reason and keep going at the same level.

When you get to Sunday, the conventional wisdom is decidedly more conservative.

Either way, most folks around football for as long as Riley have been at either level, don't have preconceived notions or conventional wisdoms that running the QB is anywhere near as safe as keeping him in the pocket. Given that TA was in a precautionary walking boot the other day, without taking a real beating in this last game, its not going to help coaches really convert to what you are preaching here.

The lack of rotation on the OL is concerning to me, especially with how poor a couple of our OL played Saturday.

Agree with you wholeheartedly on everything but pt 3. This team needs to use good judgement with Armstrong and him running

Is he implying that the competition for OL is essentially done? Why can't a guy like Sterup or Foster start to impress enough to earn a spot OR someone like Utter or Chongo struggles enough to lose a spot? Wasn't impressed by either. I get the chemistry part of it, but I would hope competition is still encouraged and rewarded.

Cav's been pretty open that if you want to play, you have to make that Top 5. He's not been directly asked, and decidedly less clear about, say a 2nd team dude really starts clicking in practice, can he earn game reps, and then supplant the starter?

I can see him not playing guys, for the sake of just playing more guys. But if a dude is showing it on the practice field, I would hope it affords more opportunity to widen the rotation.
