Nobody Does Drama Like the NBA

The 76ers haven’t even made the Finals, yet alone the Eastern Conference Finals with Embid… yet, the Phillies have played in the WS and the Eagles have won a Super Bowl. The 76ers are basically the Flyers. 🗑️ Not sure what he’s done for the city to exempt him from working, while gathering a paycheck.

Exactly - I’m sure that will play reaaal well to their fan base.

the amount of rest in the nba is embarrassing. Would hate to pay a ton for tickets in advance to see some players and then they rest. NBA has allowed it and you reap what you sow.
There's an obvious solution to that and it's to have teams notify in advance if star players are going to sit for rest. The NBA is one the more physically demanding sports out there, so I see the need for rest. But things could certainly be done in a more intelligent way.

What makes it even more amusing to me is Philly prides itself as a tough, working class city.

The first class private travel, the elite medical care, the hotels that are first class and the “underwhelming physicality level of play” this man should be seen as the visionary that he is. He will make more money per game actually played than anyone in nba history. A true visionary of how the modern man of the league will be going forward.

How did they ever do it in the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s?

Tell that to the guys that played in the NBA when the finals were broadcast taped delayed until Bird, Magic, and Jordan revolutionized the league. Players of that generation paved the way for the current generation to make unimaginable amounts of money, while resting their bodies, and getting a foul called if the opponent simply brushes up against their body.

Just another reason among many why I do not watch the NBA.

Joel Embiid, who has never been to a Finals, is mad that fans want him to actually play in games.

season just started. so funny.

Sixers fan here. Joel is being truthful in what he is saying. The problem is that he's been hurt way too often and when he does play hurt it affects his play more than most. He plays soft when he's playing with an injury.

Bottom line- the Sixers fans have seen the same thing play out over and over again. Embiid plays great in the regular season, knees wear down in the playoffs and the team makes an early exit. Why trot him out there in late October with a bad knee and have him play hurt the entire year? We know how that story will end.

Geesh. Since when has working for a paycheck been a requirement in the NBA? Deals are guaranteed. Guys sit out for entire seasons with injuries or without injuries. Embiid is coming back and the Sixers will go from a team headed for the lottery without him to a playoff team with him.

And where is the criticism for Paul George? He hasn't played yet either and he's making the same amount of money as Joel.

If Embiid is going to frequently sit out games due to injury and to pace himself for the full season and postseason - fine.

But then he needs to stop the constant bawling about the lack of MVP awards and other individual honors.

That's fair. I think that MVP quest and his rivalry with Jokic was something that kept Embiid motivated. So I like it from that regard but critics have said that it's dumb to go all out in the regular season with a guy who's body just doesn't hold up for the playoffs.

Embiid hasn't played a game in Denver since 2019, so that probably takes a bit of the shine off the rivalry with Jokic.

Why pay for a Porsche when you get a decent Ford of return?

I think the concept of “load management” is worthy of disdain and a player saying they’ve done a lot for a city by playing basketball is quite silly, but to be fair to Embiid he was reacting to an article that contained this lovely passage:

“Joel Embiid consistently points to the birth of his son, Arthur, as the major inflection point in his basketball career. He often says that he wants to be great to leave a legacy for the boy named after his little brother, who tragically died in an automobile accident when Embiid was in his first year as a 76er. Well, in order to be great at your job, you first have to show up for work. Embiid has been great at just the opposite.”

Criticizing a guy for not playing enough by referencing his dead brother does seem a teensy bit out of line.

That loss should be off limits.

There is plenty of on court things to be critical of.

What an incredible wuss. He will never be as beloved as AI in Philly. Put Iverson’s energy in that body and they would win a title. AI wanted to fist fight Larry Brown for taking him out of a game….any game. Now practice tho…..😂
