Bottom 1st

Engelken to pitch for the Skers.

2 out single to left. Ground out to 2nd ends the inning.

Bottom 2nd

Leadoff walk for Tulane. K's the next batter but the runner steals 2nd. The next batter walks. K's the next batter for out #2 but walks the next guy to load the bases. Base clearing double gives Tulane a 3-1 lead. All runners were put on via free passes by Engelken.

Matt Waldron in to relieve Engelken. Fly out to 1st ends the inning.

Top 3rd

One out walk for Boldt. Placzek smashes a double to LF and puts runners on 2nd and 3rd. Miller with a sac fly to score Boldt, Placzek stays at 2nd. Schreiber slaps an RBI single to RF to tie the game. Meyers with an in the park home run!!!! Bad decision to dive at that line drive by the CF and gives Nebraska a 5-3 lead. Dilday grounds out to end the threat.

Top 4th

Fish with a leadoff single to RF. Schlepp lines out to LF. Rev with an infield single and a throwing error advances Fish to 3rd to put runners at the corners. Rev steals 2nd. Boldt walks the bases loaded. Placzek with a sac fly to bring in Fish, runners on 1st and 2nd and 2 outs. Miller grounds out to end the frame.

Top 5th

Solo HR for Schreiber to give the Huskers another run. Meyers grounds out. Dilday walks. WP sends Dilday to 2nd. Fish walks to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Schlepp lines an RBI double to RF and moves Fish to 3rd. Rev grounds out to 3rd and the runners hold. Boldt flies out to CF to end the inning.

Top 6th

Placzek with a leadoff HR, the guy is tearing up to start the year and it's good to see. Next three batters go 1-2-3 to end the frame.

Bottom 6th

One out 2 run HR makes it a 9-5 game. Boldt makes a diving catch in deep left center to prevent a likely triple. Waldron K's the final batter that inning. He had a hiccup that inning but didn't let it change his psyche and kept throwing strikes.

Top 7th

Leadoff single by Alvarado and a double by Fish puts runners on 2nd and 3rd. The LF should have caught Fish's hit but he lost track of the ball in the sun. Schlepp walks the bases loaded. Rev K's for out #1. Boldt with a sac fly to LF. WP advances the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Placzek K's to end the threat.

Bottom 7th

One out bunt single for Tulane. A beautiful glove flip 5-6-3 double play by Schlepp to get out of the inning.

Top 8th

E5 allows a runner to get to 1st but no damage done as the next two batter get out.

Bottom 8th

Matt Waldron gives up a couple hits but overall a good showing by the young pitcher. Don't be surprised if he gets a shot at the starting rotation next weekend and is a for sure lock-in to be a midweek starter at the very least. I feel he's earned it at this point as King and Engelken prove they aren't quite ready for the weekend spots just yet.

Chesnut comes in to relieve Waldron with two outs left in the 8th. Waldron finishes with 6 innings of relief.

Out ends the inning for Tulane.

Top 9th

A HBP and a wild pitch puts Fish on 2nd. Schlepp lines out to RF but Fish does tag and go to 3rd base. Rev lines out to SS but it pops out on what the umpire says was lost in the exchange which makes no sense. A throwing error does allow Fish to score. Boldt then walks and is then thrown out trying to steal 2nd.

Bottom 9th

Max Knutsen in to close it out in the non save opportunity. He gives up a couples hits and walks a batter to load the bases. But does K the side to seal the victory for the Skers!

Don't let it go to your heads....
there's still work to do,
but...

Go Big Red!
Taking Zona to extra innings, had to suck!
Then to play the early game against a top team
and take 'em behind the corn-shed
was awesome!
Yeah 2 and 4 doesn't look good
but this line up is starting to.
Starting pitching

starting pitching.
Can't wait for next weekend!
Earn it. Everyday.

I think it's a matter of finding your roles for pitchers. Burkamper comes back which will only help. Waldron and McSteen may have earned a shot. Engelken has proven for a year plus now he is not ready to be a starter. Time will tell but they do have guys to throw in there unlike a few years ago at least.

Like the win for sure, especially after the past couple of days... I'm trying not to get too high or low on the team at the moment. Its tough though. We'll see where we are come conference season. Need to take a big leap in the next couple of weeks.
