There is actually a rather large and rabid hockey fanbase in Nebraska. Between USHL, UNO and HS club plus the NHL fans that are born from this exposure I think Husker Hockey would be highly successful. The Bank may be too large and not as intimate as most college barns which can suck the atmosphere out. College hockey is not like professional hockey in that regard. The culture is smaller, more intimate and rabid. As a former player I agree with you HuskerHusaria, but the same old people tell you why Hockey would never work at UNL and I'll tell you why, they don't know a blueline from a redline, it's called ignorance of the sport. I always thought the fans of Nebraska sports would love the game of hockey because it's a fast physical sport, but I think I know their problem, they just don't understand the game.
Maybe someday those nay sayers will stop and really take in a game someplace and change their minds about a great game a game I personally had to quit due to injury, I really miss playing. Sorry for those that are missing out on a great game and show.
I frequent UNO hockey games and I don’t see many fans traveling from Lincoln and west to Omaha for that. However I do believe there would be a contingent that would flow from the Omaha metro west to Lincoln to watch Husker hockey.
Ultimately success breeds attendance and UNO shows that mediocre success during a season drops attendance to around 6k a night while rivalry games with the likes of UND sell out.
The Stars will take a hit such as the Lancers did… but again success breeds attendance there as well… I don’t see the Bank being a good partner for Husker hockey but I’d love to see a program started.
