NDSU to the Big 12?

Saw Kornheiser make a joke about this on Monday, at least I thought it was a joke. I cannot imagine this could possibly have legs or be realistic on any level.

No way it happens. North Dakota has less than 800,000 people, and # 48 in population of all the states. Only about 1/5th of their roster is from North Dakota, and there is another FCS school in the state playing football. There's no benefit on either side, but just the thought of people casually making the suggestion of it speaks volumes of what they've built up there.

loads of capacity and academic thresholds they would have to grow drastically to become FBS. Not plausible.

No disrespect to NDSU, but how much of their success are they going to sustain now that Bohl is gone?

Is the current coach destined to be Helfrich?

The same argument could be made to a lesser degree about Houston. yah they rock now, but if Herman doesn't stay there forever, they are going to go back to being their normal invisible selves with the odd nice season.

I haven't heard any legit info that this is a possibility. However, I think people are missing the point of this latest bit of expansion talk from the Big 12. Because of the way their TV contract was drawn up, the Big 12 stands to make a LOT more money by adding teams at this point. All the usual things like football success, TV sets, etc are not a factor at all. It's basically free money no matter who they take. ESPN and FOX are negotiating with them behind the scenes to try and give them more money if they don't expand. It's kinda hilarious actually.

Sure, but it makes sense to get those teams somewhere in the ball park of "right".

Sure, if they want to continue the league long term that would matter. But for now it's seen as a screw you move to ESPN in response to their ACC deal. Take the money now and blow up the league in 8 years. ESPN, etc will have to step up with a massive deal if they want to get these guys to extend the GOR at this point.
