NCAA baseball tournament

Are they in the same bracket? Too lazy looking it up not a big concern..

Not sure, but LSU has been the best team all year and nothing has changed. They may not win it, because baseball is a funny game, but their talent level on that team is incredible this year.

Some old-school pitching in Palo Alto tonight:

Stanford’s Matthews goes 8 IP, with 15 Ks on 135 pitches. That’s almost Van Horn-esque.
All day, really. UVA kid was over 110 with 11 Ks, too.

Also Stanford has a rich history of that. Just ask Kyle Peterson.

CG, 16 Ks, 156 pitches.

Not saying I love it or hate it. Just amazing to watch in an era where people start breathing into a brown paper bag if a guy gets over 100 pitches.
There was a game a few years back where Augie pitched some dude an incredible amount of pitches during the supers. But his arm was kind of shot when he got to Omaha. I will have to look that one up.

As long as he gets proper rest after today it's no big deal. Hell of an outing for the kid.

Is there a more insane reaction in sports than this?

The whole "oh my gosh, his arm!" even at the little league level where they pretended it was about the 11 year old kids health but really it was just that Dad-coaches didn't want the one kid that was awesome getting to pitch all the time.

Kids can wrestle 6 matches in 3 hours, that is fine. They spring a 400, 4-5 different times in a day, totally fine. A kid can carry the ball 35 times in a game, totally fine. A catcher can catch back to back games in 100 degree heat, no problem.

But a pitcher throws 100 pitches?!?! CALL THE COPS!

Randomly met a guy who is an LSU alum and fan at a wine tasting in Napa yesterday. Lives in OKC now. We talked a little CWS. Good folks. Owns 32 Taco Bell franchises and had sold 20 some BK franchises right before COVID. Yeah. He could afford as much wine as he wanted. He’s excited for the CWS.

The CWS is better with LSU in it and their fans are cool as hell. @rrthusker would agree!!

My all time favorite wine is Rafanelli Zin. My wife is a Cakebread customer. Her and her best friend made a small grill the number one Cakebread customer (club member) in the state of Nebraska at one time.

I see that downtown is pretty much all set up for the (M)CWS now...good thing that ESPN added the M, I totally would have thought it was the softball world series.

If you are heading downtown to party be sure to get there early before the "cover charge"...

Yeah, and you know how coaches hate to call the curve ball. /s
Oh sure, clearly it can/does cause problems.

But again...the outrage over pitch count is something that, for the most part, is insane when compared to things that other players go through in all their sports. I think we can all agree on that.

Name another sport specific movement that is hyper-focused on stressing an already weak joint, yet that movement is critical to the very essence of a win, or loss, in each game.

Wrestling, where every joint is stressed during every match

Tennis, the entire game, also while running and then playing the next day.

Basketball and jumping and landing, stressing your ankles

Football, with pretty much every collision and tackle

Also, you could have pitchers just throw knuckeballs, right?

But again, I am talking about the insane reaction to pitch counts.
