I guess if the recruits want an understanding of why we were 4-8 and assurances that the new regime is committed to making them the best they can be I'm fine with that. Unlike you.....I don't think many potential recruits are upset that MR and soft are a thing of the past.

His run-ins with the law were due to mental illness and he was actually found not guilty by reason of insanity. He was diagnosed with schizo effective disorder and ordered to remain under psychiatric care while taking anti-psychotic medication.
By all accounts, when he was "right," he was a standup guy and beloved teammate. He had suffered abuse as a young child which TO thought led to his mental illness. He also recovered from both of the incidents in '92 to finish his degree the following year in, ironically, human resources and family science.
His story was a tragic one that ultimately ended in 2015 when he passed away following complications from surgery that left him in a coma on life support. He doesn't belong on the same list as guys like Incognito, C.Peter and Alford, among others, who were just horrible people, dangerous drunks and/or total monsters.

The irony of this is that all the guys you call bad people or total monsters probably all suffer or have suffered from mental illness, either from concussions, steroid use, drug use, or just their natural makeup. A guy like Alford, who has a sexual relationships for years with a 9-12 year old girl, cannot be considered mentally healthy. They all deserve pity and some of them actually faced justice.
I get where you're coming from, but that's pure speculation on your part. In Baldwin's case, there was a bona fide medical diagnosis. When you're found not guilty by reason of insanity, that speaks volumes. The second incident in which he was paralyzed happened when he went off his meds. From all accounts, both episodes were bizarre and completely out of character.
Incognito may have some form of mental illness. It certainly wouldn't surprise me. But the stories of him beating the shit out of guys half his size (who did nothing to provoke him) and terrorizing women while at NU make him a bad person in my book. And there were a lot of stories like that. It's impossible to say what role concussions may have played, but if it was due to steroid and/or drug use, he bares responsibility for those decisions as well. The fact that he was dismissed from the team (when others mentioned ITT weren't) says a lot.
Peter was a dangerous drunk who was an absolute menace to multiple women while at NU, including a friend of mine. Again, hard to say if mental illness was at play, and if so, what the cause(s) may have been. He seems to have made a 180 since finding sobriety, so that appears to have been the primary culprit in his case. I wouldn't call him a bad person or a monster at this point as he seems to have addressed his demons, but those labels certainly fit at the time.
Alford seems like the clearest case of mental illness, but I have hard time finding pity for anyone who sexually abuses children. I'm an advocate for understanding the causes behind such behavior so that it can be more easily identified and hopefully prevented in the future, but I'm sure there are would-be pedophiles that resist acting on their urges so they don't destroy the lives of others.
To be clear, I do sympathize with those that suffer from mental illness. It's affected members of my family and I've seen the damage it can cause firsthand when untreated. But when the illness causes them to do horrific, life-altering damage to others, I have a hard time excusing it.
Does Larry Nassar deserve our pity? Does Jerry Sandusky? Do serial killers? Maybe they do on some level, but I still don't have a problem referring to them as monsters.

As far as I'm concerned LP's story is every bit as tragic as Baldwin's. Plus the question is who we wouldn't want babysitting kids so yeah, Scott Baldwin would be tops for me. I'm sorry he had mental illness.
Agree that Crouch shouldn't be on the list. I have no idea what that's about. And I would agree that LP deserves some latitude given the circumstances in which he grew up. Another extremely tragic case of a guy who just couldn't overcome his considerable demons.
I'm not saying I would have wanted Scott Baldwin to babysit kids either, but if he was on his meds, I certainly would have trusted him to do so before Eric Alford. How can a convicted child molester not be at the top of the list?

Fine, he's on your list. I don't really care to know the reasons why. But you shouldn't be surprised that people are questioning you since you listed a Heisman winner with no publicly known offenses. Especially since you're not willing to share your rationale when pressed on the issue.
Really wasn't trying to be on a high horse about Baldwin. I just thought the details of his situation deserved mentioning since they were so unusual and extreme. To throw him in with other "bad apples" didn't seem right, but certainly some ITT disagree.
Whatever your reasoning, I would still wager a guess that Alford deserves to be ahead of the four you mentioned. But to each their own.
