More Ameer always a good thing!

Have seen more than one Barry sanders comparison, which is wayyyyy to early, but a nice compliment. But didn't Barry lack breakaway speed too. He had a pretty decent career in Detriot, with a lot less talent.

Barry Sanders had 4.3-4.4 speed. The comparisons are how they are similar with their elusiveness, jump cuts and ability to make guys hug air. AA reminds me a little of Johnny Rodgers and how he could put a foot in the ground and run sideways quick and get upfield. http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/is_ameer_abdullah_as_quick_as_barry_sanders/s1_12680_19349359 Everyone's ready for the workout to start and Barry is nowhere to be found. Word was he was out of town picking up some hardware (trophies) but was on his way. So he flew into Tulsa and came right from the airport to the workout. He got out of the car, got into some sweats, limbered up a little bit and ran a 4.37 in the 40-yard dash! I remember standing next to Wayne Fontes, who was the Lions head coach at the time. The Lions picked third and we (the Cowboys) were picking first, and it was pretty obvious we were taking Troy Aikman. So Fontes whispers to me, "Hey, I don't care if he works out or not, we're taking him No. 3." I joked with him and told him not to be so sure he'd be there, but he didn't fall for it. - See more at: http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/release.aspx?release_id=1206#sthash.A4SYCek7.dpuf

Wish he didnt play in Detroit....hate watching dome teams...All football should be played outside on grass

I recorded the game and just watched it. It was interesting that after Ameer ripped off the 51-yarder, the other back Riddick started running like a man possessed. He didn't get a lot of yards, but you could tell he was scratching and clawing for every yard he could. Job insecurity will do that to a guy.

I doubt Barry Sanders was ever a 4.4 guy. He was explosive from a stop, much like Ameer, but I remember Sanders getting run down a bunch of times. Dude was still my favorite RB to ever watch. He would have had 20,000 yards behind them massive Dallas lines that Emmett enjoyed. For what it's worth, Ameer reminds me much more of Reggie Bush. Elusive in the open field and quick to the hole. Very versatile. Ameer's biggest assest is his ability to put a foot in the ground and explode through a gap. He also can make cuts down the field at full speed that not many others could dream of.

I posted the link and yes Barry Sanders was a 4.3-4.4 guy. If you watched him play you know he was always ripping off long runs and nobody was catching him. In video I linked it shows him outrunning DB's who have the angle on him.
Quick Answer
Former Detroit Lions star running back Barry Sanders once recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.37 seconds. The time was recorded on Pro Day at Oklahoma State University in 1989.

Googled Ameer Abdullah to check his stats from the Lions 1st pre-season game. Google offered "Ameer Abdullah girlfriend." Suggest you check it out. Good for him!

Right at the end of his career Barry started getting caught by a few guys. But that didn't happen early on. The guy had the whole package. I think Ameer will be a really good one as speed is not the end all. If he can get decent qb play that will also help.

Barry had amazing wiggle and burst but he was never really a sub 4.4 guy. I would be surprised if that pro day time was electronic. I saw him get run down lots of times. Irregardless, Barry Sanders was one of the best ever. Ameer has the wiggle and burst to make guys miss and on top of that like Barry has great vision. Vision is sooooo under rated in a RBs skill set. IF you have a guy that can make a guy or two miss and hit holes fast, they can be very successful. You saw that in Ameer's long run in the preseason game the other day. Heck Johnny the Jet was not a great top end speed guy but his wiggle and vision were tremendous.
