Minnesota Tracy Clayes fired

I guess. I just don't think he would ever find a fit in the NFL. His next job was always going to be a rebuilding job.

Anyway back to Bohl. I still say he is getting to the age that you never know when that last P5 job is going to come. People thought Riley at 60 was too old for Nebraska.

Chip was still a very hot commodity after Philly, regardless of what you and I think of him, he could have had a much better job and still be coaching in his desired league. This is not debatable. Now he's damaged goods, and that isn't debatable either. He screwed up by taking the wrong job. I'm not even saying he would have been successful elsewhere, but he would have had a much better chance and still be coaching in the NFL.

One of the reasons Bohl probably wanted the Minny job is for the money, because as you say he age is starting to work against him and he was running out of chances to sign for great money. Now that he's making 1.4 mil a year at Wyoming, he doesn't have to take a crappy P5 job to get his money. He already has it, something he couldn't say at NDSU.

He is 58 years old. I understand what you are saying but how much success does he have to have at Wyo and how long before he gets that better job?

At what point does he age himself out? What if this is the biggest job he gets?
He's making more money at Wyoming than he probably ever dreamed of making and he's a short drive to Denver, RMNP, Tetons etc. To top it off there is no state income tax in Wyoming AND very low taxation otherwise. Man that would work for me in a heartbeat. This can be his last job before retiring if he wants and if he wins he'll be a hero for life..which I think he will. No way I would leave Laramie for Minneapolis and anybody that calls Laramie a "shithole" compared to the Twin Cities has never been to some of the areas I've been in and around in the Twin Cities.

I will take your word for it on the Twin Cities. Only been there once. And that was 30 years ago. But I stand by my description of Laramie as a shithole. But... eye of the beholder...

I'm with dingle in the sense I agree with everything he said, and I don't consider Laramie a shit hole either. Some people love that kind of setting.
Oh oh. I am now outnumbered two to one in the "Is Laramie a shithole or not" debate. I better retreat.
Seriously, I used to go to Laramie a lot in my 30's and 40's. I had a friend there and we went on numerous hunting trips. So I do understand its rural, cowboy town charms. I guess, despite my own preferences for living in a rural area as I do now, that I just found Laramie a little too backwater for my tastes.
But I defer to the greater democratic wisdom of the board...

But you are putting your personal preferences above what his may be.

What if he doesn't care about mountains and being the hero of Wyoming football. What if his goal is to be the head coach of a Big Ten school and beat Nebraska?

If it was just about money, he could have gone on to be a a DC or position coach at Power 5 and made more money than he was making at NDSU. ($210,000 base).

Good point. He may be in a position where his next job will be his "destination job".

Bohl I believed was quoted at the time of the Wyo-NU Game as saying that he had turned down P5 jobs that he felt were not a good fit for him. I had heard rumors of him to Purdue (pre-Hazell), as well as KU when those vacancies opened. Minnesota is not a bad job. Metropolitan area as the only major university in the state. With that said, which would be the easier way for him to get to a New Years Six Bowl: taking Minnesota out of the B1G or being the Group of 5 representative? Furthermore this is a team/school that had a near-mutiny before the bowl game and has players commenting that they have no desire to stay and be part of a school that they now think screwed their teammates and now their coach. Not saying Bohl would not take the job if offered. But I would be surprised if it was offered and surprised if he took it.

Bohl just agreed to a $6.5 million buyout. It declines over time, but he seems pretty set on staying in Laramie a while longer.

That's as much an indication that Wyoming wants to keep him than it is one that Bohl is set on staying. The coach doesn't pay that buyout. The only thing a big buyout does is reduce the potential suitors to those that can and will pay 6.5 mil to buy him out.

Is Minnesota one of those suitors? I don't know. But he wasn't going to leave Wyoming for Tulsa or Houston, he is only leaving for a P5 job, and if they want want him, they'll pay it

Bohl might be a damn fine coach, but he isn't worth 6.5 million in a buyout in my opinion.

I just don't think the timing is right for Bohl leaving Wyoming. He's just starting to get things going there, he's got a good recruiting philosophy that fits that program and what he needs to succeed there and I don't see him throwing that away for a place where there's a lot of mistrust and hard feelings over what happened before he got there and where the type of recruiting he's been used to at NDSU and Wyoming isn't going to cut it.

Yeah, I get that Bohl doesn't have to pay the buyout. But agreeing to that big of a buyout amount is a better indication of a coach's intent to stay than the length of the contract - which means pretty much nothing anymore.

I think Bohl would leave Wyoming for the right job, but I doubt Minnesota is it.
