And let us all hope it stays that way. There is still a lot of season left, and the West is still there for the taking. I like what I am seeing from our defense. Get Kalu and Newby healthy again and they will be even better. They are flying to the ball with some speed and aggressiveness.

On offense, if we can stay healthy we have a chance to improve as the season goes on. In my view, what is holding this offense back is the offensive line. It all begins there. If that unit has the lightbulb go on, our offense will be much better. Will they??? Ha. Who knows?

The fat lady ain't sung yet, the season is still young, we have some talent, and stranger things have happened. I like Mike Riley. I hope he can get this thing going in the right direction.

I hope your right, I hate it when Nebraska loses

Nothing against Lee, I'm pointing out the terrible coaching and lack of willingness to make a change.

Total QBR rating, Lee 112th, UCF's Milton 6th

Against Ark. St, Oregon, NIU & Rutgers. 112th after playing some of the worst defenses in CFB. What do you think Wiscy will do to us?
Not to be flippant, but I would say he’s still our coach until he’s not.

We will know one way or another in 8 games whether he has the ability to turn it around. And teams like Wisky will definitely have a say in the matter, just like NIU and Oregon has already weighed in as well.

I'd still much prefer a decent season than a losing one, but we all know there are people who'd rather lose and be right.

He's not our coach. No one on this board is a current player.

It's like when someone says: "don't look past Northern Illinois." Actually, I can look past anyone I want. I don't play the games. I'm also not capable of providing motivation for the Huskers' next opponent with my smack-talk. I can guarantee no coach has ever posted my nonsense on the team's bulletin board.

So I'm going to go ahead and look past the Mike Riley era, because unless they become the New England Patriots while they sleep tonight, the season is not turning around.

Actually, I think the Wisky game will be the key to our season. If we get by Illinois, that will set up a BIG night game against Wisconsin. I still think we have a shot to beat them under the lights in Lincoln. I will be there screaming my lungs out.

Beat Wisconsin and a lot of the negativity surrounding this team and Riley will be greatly reduced. People will start talking about how we need to give Riley a chance, rather than obsessing over our next coach.

But first we have to beat Illinois.

I'll be interested to see where the line is. Bounds was talking with recruits what, the last 2 weeks? Tutt left here Saturday with us in the drivers seat, despite speculation Riley might not be here in 30-60 days? Redmond intrigued?

Hard to say what they are telling these recruits that they aren't all gone with the wind. Riley might have more time than many fans think or Bounds is telling recruits the defensive staff has an excellent chance of sticking around anyway.

Boyd Epley preaches patience for Riley era. "I think what I'm hearing and seeing is a tremendous push on getting the right type of steroids"

I started this thread to smoke out the people on here who have already decided that Riley should be fired. I am on record as supporting the firing of Riley if we end with a losing season and the recruiting class falls apart. However... damn it, changing coaches is never good and we should ALL still be hoping that we turn this around and Riley stays.

Not only will I be cheering for us to win (as I always do), but even more so now. How awesome would it be if we beat Illinois and Wisconsin, and then give OSU all they can handle under the lights in Lincoln?

As I said... the fat lady ain't sung yet

Boyd Epley has a vested interest in him staying around. Let's just say we aren't the most physical team on the field some weeks and there might be some fingers starting to point at strength and conditioning.

Who is actually in charge of football S&C?

Is that because he forgot how S & C works?

Zach Taylor had a horrid first outing when he got here. Then he turned out pretty good and is now in the HOF

I agree, i believe it would take a real modern day miracle for Lee, Langs/Cab, and the OL to get their act together and win out.

No, I don’t. But if we were that far behind other teams under Pelini’s ‘work out if you feel like it’ regime, I would think it’ll take awhile to get caught up, let alone surpass others.
C'mon. I will give you we weren't physical under Bo either and he did catch flack for that. But Riley and his strength guys have been here over 2.5 years. It's time to stop blaming Bo for shortcomings like this.

I know, not Bo’s fault. Nothing is.

Well said!! I'm going to take this a few steps beyond. I'm convinced that Riley is engineering the biggest deception campaign since the D-Day Invasion of WW2. All the picks Lee is throwing, leaky O-Line play, soft D coverage is part of a master plan to lure and defeat an overconfident Wisconsin and Ohio State. Even old man Nostrildumass never saw this one coming! My two cents could be worth about $27 bucks in a few weeks. Time will tell!

I agree with everything here. The thing that saves Riley is a winning season and a bowl trip. A losing season and he's doomed I'm afraid. I'm behind Riley and the team and want to see them succeed!

One thing I've really noticed is the D and what has happened since the first half of the Oregon game. Diaco has pretty much been spot on.

No he was not! Not by anyone's stretch of the imagination. That's the whole thing that puts the whole current situation in perspective though.
Trust me, I get that. I’m just not in the mood for Tulsa Tom to tell me how bad Epley is now too.

And Riley has been horrid much of his time here as well. Up to him how he finishes... as the worst coach here in decades or with a miracle turnaround.

Funny you'd bring that up today. I had a friend on the Rimington team and he was certain the guy didn't balloon up to Joe Palooka by weight lifting alone.

I think those posters are in the minority, even among those critical of Riley. Those posters have their own reasons for believing what they believe and I don't really have a problem with it. As long as they keep it respectful along with posters on the other side, there's nothing wrong with having a different opinion.

I'm not surprised to be "liking" another of your posts, Pennsyhusker. I am right there with ya on this one, once again!

Lol. Apparently.

But I do stand by all I said, despite my nefarious agenda o_O

Oh I agree. Small minority. And I am not "calling them out". Post away I say! I just want to smoke them out so we can have an honest discussion with everyone's cards on the table. So if someone thinks Riley should be let go, I would like to know if that is because of what transpired this year, or have you just been opposed to Riley from the start and wouldn't mind seeing him fired right now? It makes a difference to the discussion as to WHY you want Riley fired right now.

I think this is important because there may be more people than you think out there who think this way. Specifically, I think there are some very significant long time boosters who have resented Eichorst's firing of Pelini and disliked the Riley hire from the get go. I think there has been pressure brought to bear on Bounds and Green to make changes.
