Mickey Won’t replace Casey

This is Cigar boys fault. He didn’t know how to recruit at a P5. God bless Torres but I don’t think the kids ever seen a weight room in his life. He’ll get murdered if he plays in the B1G. great arm but the schools going to need to take a life insurance policy out on the kid every time he takes a snap

Hey generic Husker supporter troll OP, post again with your old user name. I can’t remember it.

I'm convinced Frost and Davidson offered Logan because one of them was trying to bang his mom more so than get him to play QB here.
Cam Meredith would have played every down under Frost. MILF centered recruiting system.

Smothers gives this team the best chance to win. But Mickey plays Casey because he knows his dad. He might bench him a series, but not long term. Give Logan a shot.
Like TO said we need to run the ball to win and that’s Logan
No, no, no

I’m not advocating for Smothers because I agree with others that Casey Thompson gives us the best chance to win.

I think he could be brought in for situations.

No, the ones that will see that he gets replaced are the O-line. They are soft like the Pillsbury doughboys and opposing defenses like to feast on them! They won’t keep Thompson upright the rest of the season unfortunately.

Smothers is a great athlete. He’s a victim of a bad o line and now a pro style offense he doesn’t fit

You could have Joe Montana behind that line and it would not make a diffrence.
I been assured the last 22 year by pass happy fan, we have recruited the top of the line pass happy olines..
remember running the ball and winning national championships = bad

So, Thompson's not playing just because Mickey knows his dad? Did that dog whistle not hunt?
Kansas offense that we are seeing ran this year up to now CT doesn’t beat Smothers out if it’s just between the 2. Again, only talking about what they are running and what Daniels is having/getting to do. Taylor made for Smothers. Not CT. The offense we are running now is perfect for CT & not Smothers.

We could recycle this same thread every year, just change the names. How many people were hollering for Luke McCaffery to start, run gadget plays, change of pace, and on and on. The coaches must be total idiots to not see that Luke was way better than Adrian. If you want proof, just look at how each are performing now as QB's, oh wait......

Speaking of other qbs on our roster...

Imagine how insane it would be if CT were to finally go out due to injury against Purdue (unless our oline gets fixed in a hurry, it's almost a matter of when not if). Purdy gets in the game and wins. Purdy beats Purdue! Has a ring to it...

I would be okay with Smothers to come in when we struggle (for a series or so). I think he could of sparked something sooner last week. I def think CT is better though.

Put in at RB and run the statue of liberty with a RPO. He's probably not our best overall option at QB, he can run and pass though.
Statue of Liberty with a RPO he would most likely have a wide open T/E if no option to run. We run a lot of plays that I would love to see him on the field for but that just sounds like a fun play that I'm sure he would execute well.

With NU's OL, the option on the Statue of Liberty play handoff would be among Smothers and about 3 DLmen.

Yes, we definitely need to run more "fun" plays.

One thing Smothers gives the offense that Thompson can't give is a running threat, yes we all know this. Now you add a running threat from Smothers with the running threat of Grant and you give a defense a whole new set of problems. Now Mickey better convince Whipple that with the mess we have on the OL we might want to change a few things up when it becomes necessary.

Yes Mickey Joseph has the final say but it's Whipple who decides the depth chart at QB and it's up to Mickey to say who he wants and what plays he would like. I really believe Mickey is letting Whipple run everything on the offensive side and it's geared toward Thompson's style of play.

We all know Mickey really like's Casey Thompson's toughness but that hasn't changed me questioning why Smothers hasn't been given his shot when Thompson has to come out from time to time, why Purdy all the time?

I would love to see what Smothers and Grant could do together even if it's for only a few series. Side note, I don't think we will see Smothers stick around much longer if he's left out of the offense, sad but true.

I could argue just the opposite occurs when you have a primarily running QB. Look at what happened when Rutgers went with their running QB, the D doesn't worry about the pass, they can be much more aggressive.

D coordinators prepare for everything, if anything, it makes a team one dimensional and easier to defend.

Wildcat formation. Brewington crossing through on the snap count. Smothers takes the snap, just the threat of 'is he going to run to where Brewington is going, or is someone on the line going out for a flair out pass?' Or straight up the middle? Smothers gives a different dynamic, but CT is the only one making most of the throws that we draw up. Running covers mistakes on the line a bit better.

Holy cow, Smothers is not good. He will not replace Casey Thompson. Purdy may actually have a chance. The last 4 years you all cried that Frost promised AM the job and McCaffrey and Smothers never get a fair shot! Now it's Mickeys butt buddies with his dad so he won't bench him. The freaking starting QB is playing because the coaches who watch practice everyday believe the best player should start. And that's the case at every position on the team.

Why Purdy all the time? Because he can actually throw a pass. And he is somewhat athletic. Smothers is a runner only. Today's football coaches will stop a one dimensional QB. Tom Brady is the last QB who will be strictly a passing QB. Every other team has a dual threat at QB.

His career total is 39 for 150 yards or 3.8 ypc. Career long 24 yds.

Not too dynamic.

Problem is Purdy has yet to really show off that arm of his. When Thompson has come out for a series or two Purdy has just handed the ball off or tried to run and tried to pass and fumbled in the end zone and the other team scored a touch down. If you're down inside your 10 you better have someone who can hold onto the ball move the chains.

I guess the other question could be why you and others think he deserves a shot in this O? Based on what? What has he shown in practice? But none of us are there for that.

NU needs an effective passing quarterback more than it needs a running quarterback. Did you forget about last year already? This is a team that is re-orienting itself, and I think it is improving. I don't believe the OL has no talent, I think they were mishandled by the last coaching staff. They should improve with better conditioning, training, and repetition. They are monsters, size-wise. But CT is our best bet, because I haven't seen any sign that the subs can throw a football under pressure.

NU's OL got whipped all night long by the front 4 of Rutgers that went
230/ 250/ 290/ 250. Sr/Soph/Sr/Soph
