Ohio State board

Tyjon Lindsey commits to Nebraska

Congrats to the kid. Time to move on

This is really a head-scratcher to me...o_O

He wasn't convinced that OSU was the right fit offensively.

Because Nebraskas WR and QBs light up the stats.

$$$$$

Brilliant... (Not) The best offensive minds in all of CFB and he believed what the nubs were feeding him. I think he looks back on this and regrets it... like a LOT. IMO.

Every kid gets to make his own choice for his own reasons, but from the outside this looks like trading in a Porsche for a Dodge.

Not shocked... I think Tyjon wanted to be the crown jewel of the '17 class and Tate was getting all the glory! Enjoy Nebraska Tyjon... corn, corn and more frickin' corn!

Lincoln, Nebraska could also be a welcomed escape from the the rough things he has faced in his past. Cbus is like NYC compared to that place.

Come to Ohio State or lose to Ohio State.

Cant blame him for feeling that way. Passing game has been a clown show. Only team out of 78 in bowl season to get shut out. Having said that, I don't think we will miss him.

Forgotten and replaced already.

I, unfortunately, travel to Lincoln a couple times a year. That place is so awful. Hell of a sales job here. Was it that drunk wr coach? Great recruiting selling a kid on the merits of the Nebraska fit for him. If it wasn't so funny I'd probably be a little upset.

The town is ho hum but Gameday is fun there...good fans..

He'll regret it when their QB can't get him the ball and our secondary blankets him.

I read his latest article and two things he noted where apparent.
1. Williams the WR coach at Nebraska. I think he is questioning if Smith could develop him.
2. He did not want to play H back, but want to play a traditional WR role.

Also, a lot of personal west coast factors played into it: Mike Riley and Keith Williams are both California guys with respect of the parents in Southern California going back decades.
Keyshawn and his son are tight with Tyjon, and they chose Nebraska and will be part of the support system there for him.
He trained at Pro Way with Darnay Holmes and other California guys. Is it possible that as Ohio State was telling Darnay how they'd use him in Adoree Jackson way, Tyjon took offense to that as that would amount to offensive plays that would otherwise be reserved for the position Ohio State would have him at.
To me, just sounds like Tyjon got caught up and committed prematurely to Ohio State, but Nebraska made him a top 2-3 priority in their entire class and stayed on him every day, hammering home the personal connections, sowing doubts about his role at OSU, and making him feel like a top priority.
In other words, they did a great job and won an individual battle in the cut throat world of recruiting. We'll still wipe the floor with them the next few matchups, but hats off to them. It's an example of how Urban has raised the level of coaching hires and recruiting since he came here. Bo Pelini sure as hell wasnt recruiting well outside the grain belt and sure as hell couldnt take a recruit away from Ohio State or any other top program.

Apparently he still thinks the previous clown show Warriner and Beck are still at the helm.

Dude has to live in Lincoln, Nebraska for the next 4 years of his life... I've been there once in 2011 and the people are really nice... That's about it...

Kid's weak. Class is better off without him.
Enjoy those Holiday Bowls (if that)

About time Nebraska brings something to the B1G table. I welcome our new villains in the West.

Heard this has Keyshawn Johnson Sr. wriiten all over it. Don't know how true but has been politicking for a good WR to take pressure of his 3 star son. Even has a nephew who went to Ohio St. Wonder if he called in a favor there?

Thank you Keyshawn.

Kid at least is trying to be mature and make the best decision for himself. Posters in this thread, proving maturity as adults is a challenge. Maybe we can all take our tressel cialis meds and bash his staff and get a head start on cliche zach smith hate.

I believe Niles Paul was the last one to make it and he converted to a TE.

Enunwa from the Jets.

I know we should ignore the fact that Mike Riley hasn't always been at Nebraska, but Brandin cooks and Markus Wheaton played for him and got drafted under him...And are both 5'10"ish
Edit: this will only be Riley's 3rd year at NU in 2017

Riley had some potent offenses at Oregon State. So that's more of a indicator than Nebraska's recent past. Will need to groom a new QB in 2017 but should be OK after that.

I bet it works out for him. He'll get to start from Day 1 and becomes their #1 weapon shortly. At tOSU, who knows when he achieves either of those things. Obviously he won't win as much, but that's probably not his top priority. Best of luck. NEXT

Notre Dame board

Diaco To Nebraska as DC

Well that's an interesting move. Good for him

Solid hire.

That didn't take long. Good luck to him.

Actually seems like a step up, from HC at Connecticut to D.C. At a serious Big10 school.

I thought the same thing, surf, but he'll have the opportunity to get kids into and thru school that he just couldn't do at ND in a place that is far more serious about football than UCONN. I think this is a great hire for Nebraska and I expect that ol' werewolf to do very well there.

I thought maybe Wisconsin would go after him...cupboard a little more full. All about timing I guess.

My wife remembers Diaco for going to the Football 101 event one year wearing a golf shirt, khaki shorts, and loafers with no socks.

He's a better coach than recruiter. If ND had more of those they wouldn't have went 4-8. Awesome hire by Nebraska.

That is a great hire.

Good for Diaco. I wish him luck even though I have never been a fan of Neb.

If he's quarantined from media, he should be okay.

"Diaco will be the highest paid non-head coach in Nebraska history"....Yikes

Tyjon Lindsey "Decommits" from OSU

Just committed to Nebraska...

No surprise there. Still don't see how Nebraska can pull kids from the west coast. Know their staff has those ties, but to go from Cali to Nebraska? Ehh

Iowa board

Huskers officially hire Bob Diaco as defensive coordinator and will be reportedly be switching to a 3-4.

Could we assume, based on the fact he was hired by Nebraska, that he wouldn't have been a good fit for the Hawkeye coaching staff?

No.

Seems like we should make players sign non competes against working for certain schools down the road...
Ugh. I hate this. I really enjoyed watching Nebraska with a below-average defense in recent years.

Good for Bob! I really don't think this will affect us much. It is very difficult to recruit for a 3-4 and right now their roster is full of players recruited to run a 4-3 defense.

Bobby played in a base 5-2 defense. I don't think Nebby can recruit the players to run a 3-4. Not easy to find college defensive linemen that big and athletic.

5-2 & 3-4 basically the same thing, one calls them DE other LB. Wisky plays the 3-4 pretty well.

Why do you feel Nebraska would have a hard time recruiting to a 3-4? Wisconsin has had no trouble in accomplishing this.

OT: MSU Lands 4* LB & Nebby Lands 4* WR
For a team that went 3-9 last year in MSU and another team in Nebraska that hasnt performed any better than Iowa in recent years, it is somewhat disappointing to see kids like this go to these other programs who I would say are on Iowa's level.
MSU now has four 4* commits in 2017 and Nebby has six.

Edit: More impressively, Nebby was able to flip Tyjon Lindsey from Ohio State

Both of those guys were actually committed to Ohio State at one time. Lindsey just decommitted this past week. Simmons decommitted in November.

WTF are they telling WR recruits over in Lincoln? I'd be thrilled if we pulled in one of those three they have committed.

How does a 4* WR commit to NE over all those other offers? Really how does that happen. What's the connection?

They have a history of using WR's. Don't they have Keyshawn Johnson Junior?

As for why Nebraska is able to get so many good wide receivers this year I believe it is because of their wide receivers coach. He is young, hip, and African-American. Very appealing to 18-year-old African-American kids regardless of his background and douche bag demeanor.

Yeah and Jaevon Mcquitty (spelling?) who Iowa offered. They have a hell of a group of WRs in this class.

You could say the same thing about Iowa for Michigan State as far as positives going for the program.... Longest tenured coach in the B1G. Produces more NFL talent than MSU... Iowa has all of the ingredients that MSU does other than a state with more recruits. I tend to agree with you on the Nebraska coach being a key salesman. I find it incredibly impressive that they were able to flip the kid from OSU. Overall I am mainly just saying Iowa has just about as much to sell as these other two programs... in some cases more, in some cases less

Agreed. Hate to say it, but none of this is super shocking.

+1 regarding NE WR coach. Even though he has a lot of baggage, he is appealing to the recruits. I really hope that our next WR coach is Marvin McNutt. Former hawk, former WR, and I think he would relate very well with WR prospects

Of course Iowa has plenty to sell but it doesn't have the wins that MSU does not the history of Nebraska. This should not be a surprise.

One of these days you will accept that Iowa is a program whose majority of coaches are not good recruiters. Player Development will only take you so far. Please explain how you can say we play a Pro Style Offense when we cannot consistently throw the ball. How many NFL teams are 50/50 when it comes to run vs pass when it comes to play selection/yardage? If we truly are successful running a Pro Style Offense, then why do we not have top HS QBs and WRs lining up to play for the Hawks?

Right right I get that. But then you can say Iowa has recently put more players in the NFL. Basically, thats what I meant in some cases there is more to sell and some there isnt. Each program has its advantages.

What do you define as players in the NFL? Looking at ESPN's players by college count Iowa is behind both of those schools in number: MSU 28, Nebraska 26, and Iowa 23.

Nebraska always has some good skill players. Problem is they don't do a lot of good if they keep losing the LOS.

There are a handful of programs in America that can recruit with their brand and name, and Nebraska is still, unfortunately, one of those programs. Iowa doesn't have that pull, so demographics and culture play a bigger role, imo.

Ummm, Iowa has more conference titles than Michigan St, leads them in the head to head series and has been to more bowl games. As for Nebraska, I don't believe they have a conference title since like 1998 or so. Nuff said. No excuses for Iowa. None. It's all on how Iowa sells it's program.

I think it is the culture of Neb football that helps them in recruiting. Culture bring you can get away with rap, never attend class and yet you will still play. And the WR coach will take you out, buy you drinks , and take one for the team- get DUIs on the way home so that you can stay eligible.

We need better recruiters.

Since Iowa is known for the run, the big question is, why do we have a hard time getting 4* RB's or get turned down by so many. It might be somewhat negative recruiting WR's, but it should be just as positive in recruiting RB'S!

We need more black assistant coaches for one thing.

Better recruiters aren't going to stop Ross P from going to Alabama or Oliver Martin from potentially going to Notre Dame. I can't think of too many top recruits that we have lost to programs that I consider beneath Iowa. Recruits choose other programs for tons of different reasons. I don't remember our staff having a plethora of top recruiters when we signed the 2005 recruiting class. Pretty sure that same group of coaches signed the 2008/2009 classes. I don't consider losing a recruit to Wisconsin or Michigan State or Nebraska or Ole Miss to be a slap in our face. Not every recruit we go after wants to play here no matter how great of a sales pitch we make. You act like our coaches don't try to sell our program, facilities, family atmosphere, etc.

Can we please stop with this PC BS on African American. Jok doesn't refer to himself as a African American and he's from the Sudan. Have you been to Nebraska? Nebraska is more white than Iowa. Your theory has so many holes.

It's not like Nebraska hasn't had recent success. Just because they haven't won a title doesn't mean anything. They consistently win 8-9 games. There are plenty of schools in the top 25 of recruiting that don't win conference titles. That's not the only reason kids choose colleges. And I hardly doubt that a recruit in 2017 cares about Iowa or Michigan State's conference titles from decades ago. They care about what they've seen on TV or read on social media.

I think their history accounts for some of it, and the fact that football players are treated like dieties in the state generally. I don't think there's anything husker fans won't do for athletes.

So.....because higher rated recruits don't choose our school they are:
1. Soft
2. Divas
3. Don't want to go to class
4. Take money
I think your first point gets knocked out of the park with how some of those higher rated guys mopped us the last few bowl games. Also, they may be divas but they visit the end zone much more than we do. As for not going to class, I think that's a big brush you're painting with, can you back it up? Hopefully you can do the same with all of the recruits we were after who asked to be paid.

What would Iowa have to sell to a WR recruit during the GD era? You will have the chance to play in the 121st ranked offense? You will be playing in the most predictable least innovative offense in football? Iowa needs better coaching and recruiting for sure. Most of you live in a state of denial!

It's not the X's and O's it's the Johns and the Joes ........

Harry Van Dyne to Minnesota... Just committed

Well fleck.

Flecking dumb.

Wow. Fetal positon time.

Unfortunately Fleck is a better recruiter than anyone Iowa has. Enthusiasm/belief is a powerful tool in sales.

What is going on? We can't even get Van Dyne when his brother is walking on and playing time is abundant? Sad.

Didn't see this coming. I thought for sure he'd be a hawk with his brother. Really liked his film.

But other people say we don't have to worry about Fleck.

Well, that sucks. I really thought that with his brother coming to Iowa, he would also commit.
We should just close up shop and shutter the program now.

Great coaches, poor recruiters.

This is one guy who I think we will be watching and say damn, wish he would've chose Iowa instead. We really missed out on him.

Fleck is a very aggressive, hard sell recruiter. Fits his personality. That's appeal to some, others - not so much. The key for him will be whether he follows through on his promises. I've seen the hype machine get lots of attention and sometimes results early, but it generally has a hard time sustaining the initial emotional high. Time will tell.

Iowa needs better recruiters on staff. I don't think anyone can argue otherwise.
