Memorial stadium upgrades going to run north of half a billion

300% inflation in less than 2 years? it's all the grift man.. same thing as weapon systems for Ukraine or any other big project.. lot's of money greasing the palms and getting kicked back etc. Get in line to donate when Troy starts passing the can..
Like every other major program updating facilities. WHOE the audacity. Just keep bitching about anything and everything.

I believe OP is talking about the current stadium setup.
The current stadium setup is indeed what I meant to refer to. Probably not well worded on my part.

I didn't realize how uncomfortable some areas of our stadium were until years ago some visitors fed me crap about it as I sat with them. It was probably a dig in other ways as well but the fan comfort comment always ate at me.

Yeah I get that and you want friend visitors to think it's great. But just like my kstate brother in law hated everything thing huskers. His head was on a swivel if anyone gave a kitty ribbing. I never invited him back

Your brother-in-law is Averitas? My condolences.

No not at all however we do know common individual. I will admit I always wore husker stuff at family functions years ago. It wasn't until the helmet incident on crouch that he dared to wear kstate gear. Since then he's gotten more annoying

Thoughts?

Sources: Price Tag on Memorial Stadium Renovations Expected to Top $500 Million

The home of Nebraska football is soon to undergo changes that will cost close to $1 billion.
Changes are coming to Memorial Stadium.

That we already knew. But what kind of changes is Nebraska looking at? For the most part, that’s been kept under wraps, with hints of an announcement to come at some point in 2025. Former Nebraska athletics director Trev Alberts first announced plans for a Memorial Stadium renovation in 2022, coming in at an estimated $450 million. In the original plan, 25,000 seats were going to be temporarily removed ahead of this upcoming season.
Troy Dannen took over as athletics director in March 2024 and by late April, the plans were changing. In a statement at the time, he said, “We are all aligned on the need to modernize our aging stadium. But as we have said, any work we do needs to follow our guiding principles. First, it needs to help us win. Second, it needs to advance our goals for acquisition and retention of talent. Third, and equally importantly, it must preserve our financial stability - one of the greatest assets of Husker Athletics.”

The third point was what many latched onto, as the cost of half a billion dollars seemed too high for many.
A year later, sources tell me that the number associated with the cost of the renovation will actually climb above the original plans, settling somewhere between $500 million and $1 billion. The total cost is expected to be at least 1.5 times what it would have under Trev Alberts' plan of $450 million.
South stadium will still undergo changes, similar to what was originally planned under Alberts, but a portion of the overall cost will come from changes being made on the west side of the stadium. The lower portion of the west bowl in particular will undergo a facelift, with one "level" moving to three.

Each “level” of the new west side will have its own club level. Chairbacks are expected as well. Field club levels could be in the cards, similar to what we've seen happen at stadiums like AT&T or SoFi, homes of the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams/Chargers, respectively.
Assuming the Board of Regents vote goes as expected, construction is expected to start after the 2026 season. That's a starting point later than what the target completion would have been under the original Alberts plan at July 2026.
Nebraska blew a major opportunity in the 90s.

We were the best program in college football at the same time as the .com boom. We could have built a new stadium and practice complex on the footprint where the current practice and other facilities are located, then demolished the old Memorial Stadium and located the new basketball arena on that footprint. All of it a short walk or shuttle to the future Hay Market.

Instead we have a jury-rigged stadium that can never be the first class facility that a new stadium could have been. We could have also had a dome or fan covered stadium like hard rock.

Some pretty major hindsight here eh?

Just how "comfy" do people need it?

If "the most comfy" is being at home and the "least comfy" is having to stand the entire game...Memorial stadium is clearly in the middle.

Bathroom upgrades, sure. More concessions, okay. Padded seats or chairs, sure!

In the end, even super fan is in that stadium for MAYBE 32 hours each season.

Just doesn't seem like a huge deal.

Agreed, once I am in my seat I do not move until the game is over and yes I get to the game when the stadium opens.

Of course I purposely do not sit in the south end zone for several of the reasons you mentioned above.

Construction costs in my area have FAR outpaced inflation for consumer goods. Builders I’ve talked to say they’re quoting 400$ per square foot for basic 1500 square foot homes😮

Increase the width of the seats. That decreases capacity and decreases the restroom requirements. I go to watch football, not to eat pizza. Gimme a little more space and I’ll hold my pee until I get to Tico’s.

Amen!

When I go to a game, about 2 per season, it goes like this.

Leave Omaha 4-5 hours before kickoff

Park in a garage or at a meter since it is free (Or, we think it is free)

Hit up 3-4 bars and one tailgate

Go to the stadium and get a big drink (maybe a dog), put 3-4 shooters in my drink and go to our seats. 30 yard line, 15 rows up from the sidelines.

Watch game, add more shooters to my soda.

Right before halftime, go pee.

Leave with a few minutes left (unless it is a good game) and hit up a bar before we get to the car.

TAKE HIM OUT!!! Serious. Tell him to stfu or you’ll deck him.

Until we return to playing winning football where we are truly relevant again, I don’t give a rat’s ass one way or the other with regard to stadium renovations. Because unless we start winning again within two years or less there won’t be that many fans in the seats anyway. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for a nice stadium with all the bells and whistles. But frankly, right now I just don’t give a shit about the stadium. I am sick up to my eyeballs of watching us play crap football.
Just win damn it.
Same here, I'm a Rhule fan and I'm hoping for the best, but obviously there's always the chance that we end up faceplanting just like we have under 3 out of our last 4 coaches, and fan interest is at an alltime low by the time this project gets finished. I know I wouldn't have it in me to feel super passionate about another reset with another new coach if things do go south. Let's hope we keep improving and winning more games and it'll all be gravy.
